I find it perplexing when people look forward to reading less. To me, the more text, the better. I can't grasp the concept of desiring less text when the stories themselves are fantastic. Nowadays, it seems like the norm is to breeze through a comic in five minutes, with hardly any dialogue. Is this an attempt to underpay letterers? In my opinion, the more text we have, the richer the experience.
I got mine in last week. I would rather read Golden and Silver Age stories than the "heavy" books that you alluded to in the video. I have too many real life issues going on, so give me Titano any day. BTW, I much prefer the purple background on the cover that was in the solicitation. That baby poop yellow looks awful. Other than that, awesome book.
That's an omnibus for sore eyes. Unless you hate that sort-of-yellow, but I don't care. It's the silver age. No P.hD. required. No, sir. Hope you are doing fine. Blue
I mean this when I say it this is my favorite superman era of comics it just felt like anything could happen in these stories I'm halfway through it and I've absolutely enjoyed this omnibus I really hope that volume 2 comes out soon!
Such a fun era for Supes. Anything could (and mostly did) happen within those pages. So many firsts in Superman lore began here :) To this day I love that freaking giant key to the Fortress of Solitude. If you ever watch the Super Sons Adventures movie (or whatever it's called) they have fun with that.
Grew up in the silver age! Memories as an eight year old walking to the local store hoping to get the latest issue! My mother would write a permission note asking the store keeper to sell me cigarettes! I have owned and sold many silver age comics through the years! With collections, you need to establish an end game! As a new retiree, I own 7 Dc Omnibus’s! They are beautiful books that are pure fun! I will never part with them!
such a pleasure to hear from a fellow Silver Age fan! DC really needs to be publishing 3 SA books per year for Batman and Superman! Wonder Woman already has 2 SA books out!
At long last we get Silver Age Superman in omnibus format which is totally Awesome, with some outstanding cover art and internal art, just complete fun and simple with no violence. Let’s hope we get Lois and Jimmy omnibus books and finish off the golden age
@@StillOnly25c hahaha!! Very Fine Condition can’t even get his emails returned from DC!! I don’t know what to think about the DC collected editions department
@@OmnidogsVault it's on its way, but they initially screwed it up as I had it preordered and they didn't dispatch it for 7 days. Had to cancel and reorder, really weird. Theyre normally fine
All this retcons and new lore like the Fortress of Solitude, Super Girl, Super Boy, Brainiac, etc will eventually be called Earth 1 Superman and Golden Age Superman will become Earth 2 Superman. There is no clear cut between the two, so for a while they share the title (there is no way to know which superman is on the issue if there are no clear references to the new lore). Golden Age Superman just fade out in the late 50´s. I´m glad they started with Action Comics #241, perfect issue to start the Silver Age (there are early references like Superboy in 1949, but you can make the argument the original Superman was still the protagonist in almost every other issue). Hopefully they make a lot more of this all the way to What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow.
You overlook a very important fact: That first Brainiac (Great character) was also the first time we were introduced to 'Krypton City' which quickly became 'The bottle city of Kandor', which led to a whole slew of great stories and made the just-introduced 'Fortress of Solitude' such a great place for young readers to visit.
Excellent and erudite review! I am glad DC is taking a page from Marvel and displaying the covers on the back cover. I wish they would go farther and include letters pages and at least some of the ads at the bottom of the page for Palisades Park and other DC titles. That would've upped the nostalgia factor! I'm with you and hoping DC picks up the pace on releasing them. Also, DC, please release Silver-Age World's Finest omnibus vol. 3!
Ohhhhh all GREAAAT ideas!! I remember wondering what Palisades Park was like!! And the house ads were so BOSS!! We really do need Worlds Finest to catch up!! Especially the Neal Adams era!
I am not sure about the new reader. I am kind of them, kind ooooffffff. But I am not that into Silver age. But, but, I would buy it if there are funny, crazy, cucu stories so ... please, tell me if those stories are in there :)
Why do DC have such a large border at the end of the page instead of expanding the story? Other than that, good review and I agree that DC should bring these treasures out faster.😁
Because back then at the end of the Superman stories it ended up with an ad, almost always it was Tootsie Rolls. DC can’t just place tootsie rolls ads there.
@@dannyc8876 Oh ok that explains it! I wasn't grasping that it was at the end of the stories - I thought it was the huge white border around the pages themselves
@@dannyc8876 I have not gotten it, not sure I'm going to. The next omni I'll overview is the JLD Dark Rebirth book! I'm reading that the DAY IT COMES IN!!!
I’m a bit confused. Didn’t the Silver age omnis from DC have the same trade dress as the Golden Age omnis just in Silver? Is this like a second printing of the Silver age Omni with a new dust jacket?
The SA books now have a different trade dress than the earlier SA books. The GA, SA and BA all had that same trade dress as you remember with different colors but now the SA books have their own trade dress
@OmnidogsVault Page 353-384 were reported as the affected pages which made it seem like 32 pages were missing and one signature page was reprinted twice for 321-352. Might have been from a defective/rejected batch that somehow got out because others reported that their copies turned out fine.
@@OmnidogsVault probably people in 50 years looking at our pics from when we are 40,50 or 60 will say we look like sh-t compared to them. I admit the Rip Van Winkle Superman beard was very funny looking. I had fun with these stories of the book. I’m in my 40s and I love Silver Age Superman, there are more of us than people know……
