Yeah, of course it had to be him. It couldn't be the rest of DC's roster being able to score a win against a foe that you can only ever beat psychologically, because clearly none of them are "actual heroes" who put themselves on the line more than an alien who literally has the power to go toe to toe with Darkseid himself.
Superman is inspiration and called the best of them because if that. Batman inspires as well but not in the same way supes does. His inspiration is transcendent which is his whole thing

Because he's so ridiculously powerful in the entire DC Universe that he barely faces the challenges every human has to? Every human hero in DC has risked their lives daily, and faces a mortality that he never truly does. And they risk their lives facing enemies sometimes on the level of HIM. The fact that this is somehow makes him a "transcendent inspiration" and "the best of them" is kind of silly.

@@korsekil because he is the most human of them. Batman and Superman Public Enemies has one of my favorite lines about him, from Batman no less "He rains fire from the heavens like a God. But that thought never occurs to him." Superman could do anything he wants. Yet he chooses to be a hero and role model. He is the soul of the justice league batman is it's brains and wonder woman is it's heart. He finds himself to be no better than anyone just someone gifted. I don't know if I can actually explain it and give it justice. I do see your point though
Dr Manhattan has got to be one of the most difficult characters to write. Imagine being in his shoes, seeing time as he does, with the power to unmake the universe at his fingertips and completely disconnected from everything human.
I think this story is beautiful. Doctor Manhattan's greatest weakness was always his fear that he'd lose his humanity. And here we expected a fight, but instead of a battle, we see Superman be the symbol of Hope he always is. Superman didn't just win against Dr. Manhattan, he saved him. That's who Superman truly is.

Dr Manhattan learned humanity from an alien, superman is amazing. The ending is fucking amazing as well, Dr Manhattan dies and reincarnates himself as a young boy named clark in his universe because every universe needs a superman.
I love the thought, but looking at how terrible the Dark Multiverse worlds ended up it's not always a garuntee that Superman's presence saves the universe he's in. I know it's more of a symbolic thing, but knowing that universes have been lost even with a Superman makes me believe that the Watchmen world isn't quite done with DC yet.
He didn't, he died by sacrificing himself for the world and for the child that was from what i can tell the son the two criminals that went to the DC universe.

He became so popular that he was the first superhero to be featured in a comic book that was dedicated just to his adventures. The second DC superhero was Batman initially appearing in Detective Comics #27 dated May 1939. The comics publisher, National Allied Publications, created both Detective Comics and Action Comics. National Allied Publications would later change their name to National Comics Publications then National Periodical Publications and finally DC Comics. One might prefer DC’s Batman to DC’s Superman but we can’t change how history went down. The Superman character literally put the super into a comic book hero. I don’t understand why people who have access to the enormous amount of information on the Internet don’t simply use the Internet to find that information. Doctor Manhattan officially undid his mistakes while rebooting several alternate DC universes. Earth-0 is still there. Earth-1, a home for the entire Silver Age/Pre-Crisis characters changed to Earth-1,985. Earth-2 officially turned back to normal. Earth-52 is the new home for the entire New 52 characters. Earth-5G is going to be interesting in the future. Five years from now, a new "CRISIS" will be possibly intense. Doctor Manhattan gave his power to his adoptive human son Clark Osterman who will grow up to be the supreme superhero for the entire "Watchmen" universe before he erased himself from existence.

He expected either two outcomes until the last countdown but to his surprise a 3rd outcome emerges, reality continous past that darkness and despair.. Hope. Superman says "maybe you make that choice" telling Dr.M that he have seen the future and accepted it as it is and he chooses not to make any action since it's pointless (perfectly portrayed here 3:49 when Dr.M have the luxury to save that people from the car but choose not to because future says otherwise, and Superman finding the time to save them even thought he's busy dealing with monsters) Sometimes all it takes is such simple words on a right place, in a right time to change a Man. Forget about superheroes and supervillains, a very important lesson bigger than gods and goddesses, bigger than DC omniverse itself. The last lesson Doomsday clock and Dr.Manhattan had offered to the readers "Do not lose Hope even in the darkest times, be The Man of Tommorrow of your own destiny.. start to take action now." (Doomsday clock is quite similar to the book "King in yellow" from lovecraft).
@@richcapo It's not. Dr. Manhattan realizes that the dark and gritty Superman he created (New 52) failed because he wasn't the man of tomorrow, he wasn't the man of hope. Oh and if you are wondering what I mean by created, Dr. Manhattan was the one who reset the DC Multiverse (Thus the New 52) in the new universe he created, Alan Scott dies from a train crash because Dr. Manhattan moved the ring away from his reach (with his reality manipulation). Alan Scott as a Green Lantern was never born, so the Justice Society of America was never formed. Fast forward to decades, teen Clark Kent was going to prom, after that, the Kents drive away and got into an accident. Originally, Superboy (teen Clark Kent) saves them because Clark was inspired by the Justice Society of America, but since Alan Scott died and never formed the JSA in the altered multiverse, Clark wasn't inspired to become Superboy, thus his parents die while Clark was only a teen. Because of that, Clark grew distant from humanity and wasn't the "Man of Tomorrow" or "Symbol of Hope" we knew and loved.
You missed some.important pages...like him explaining that all the universe's need a superman... and he even allowed new 52 to be its own universe. He even brought new 52 kal back. New universe were created and reborn.... it was explained that every universe has a superman and HAS to have a superman...no matter what era it is

I knew Superman wasn't going to do anything to Dr Manhattan besides influence him, I can't believe some people believed Superman was going to one shot Dr Manhattan Lols.
Imagine this scene being the ending to a long list of movies kind of like endgame. Everything leading to this moment would have people on the edge of their seats. At the end of the day Superman (Iron man) it starts with him and ends with him. DC gods are so much harder to make movies for but that’s one thing I’ll say watchmen did right. Manhattan in the movie was pure amazing.
Again and again I return to a line in Batman/Superman:Public Enemies. "In many ways, Clark is the most human of us all. Then...he shoots fire from the skies, and it is difficult not to think of him as a god and how fortunate we all are that it does not occur to him." ~ Batman Sorry Arrowverse but Superman is meant to be the paragon of hope, which what you see here. He's alone against a Legion of enemies and he doesnt run, he doesnt kill, he stands up against their fear and still tries to bring hope and inspire.

He has all the power in the world (the cosmos in this case), yet he does absolutely _nothing_ with it. Doesn't care about anyone or anything and does absolutely nothing to help or harm a situation. He all he does is wander around pointlessly philosophizing about abstract concepts as oppose to doing anything. He might as well not even be there. It’s incredible to think that something of this magnitude can have such a profound effect on so many...most people don’t understand why Superman is the way he is...for all his great physical power, his empathy and his ability to inspire others to stand and defend the ones you love/care about is just amazing...I personally don’t believe in hope per say, but he actually makes me think about it...in the end, one choice can really have an impact on so much and so many...the ending was just awesome...

Hope is not the goal. Hope is a means. Hope is the force that lets us act, allows us to choose good rather than self. It is what allows us to stare into the abyss of the unknown and keep walking forward anyway. And sometimes, often _because_ we choose to hope for a better future, we can make choices that bring such a future into being.

Someone who can move mountains must put hay in a pickup without destroying either, control. That being must birth calves and sometimes it won't work out, empathy and grounding. Furthermore, when the work is done he goes home to a hot meal and warm smiles; Love. Superman is a product of his environment; albeit the best representation but still he's called the best of us for a reason.

@Ares Ares His powers are weaker yes, but what he stands for is accented even more because he has to struggle even more to obtain it. It isnt nearly as impactful if he just casually mary sues every fight. Current supes is strong, but not an unstoppable force.

To have the option to exist, with multiversal level power, and to have complete, fine-tuned control of every aspect of it, and then to choose non-existence, and instead yield that power to another creature after having toyed with the fundamentals of it all, I find absolutely fascinating.
Watching superman manhandle some of the most powerful beings in dc is always fun. But the fact that he was able to persuade dr Manhattan is why we love him.

I'm not even a huge comic book fan but it's stories like this, the seriousness, lack of flashy colours and shininess, is what makes me view DC as a superior company over Marvel. This story was amazingly done.

Wow after this comic what can be said. Everyone who hates Superman tends to do so cause of his boy scout attitude, cause hes seen as nigh powerful. None of that is real though. Hes everything a true hero is supposed to be, what both sets of parents wanted him to become. To make us look at ourselves and realize we all have such potential to do good. To those who say Superman is boring because he's Good. Actually the concept "Good" is one of the most complicated things in the universe. We can't measure Good even with the most advance science because science does NOT tell us anything about morals, but we all know Goodness when we see or feel it. Kind of weird how both of the things in the bottomless pit are the things that define the Left. I'd have normally thought that there would be an example of the negatives of both factions instead of only listing two examples from one faction and no negatives for the other faction.
@@Thalanox I think "liberal" is actually supposed to mean in the classical sense, making it right wing. I don't totally agree with that assessment (I consider myself a classical liberal, and I think the most basic principle of classical liberalism is to acknowledge your own limited nature and thus refrain from forcing your will on others for the most part), but I'm pretty sure that the intention is to criticize both sides.

And in their 1v1 fights Superman wrecks flash every time, just look at how supes casually flicks flash away in the new 52. Even in the current Flash Forward run, Wally West who is the fastest Flash and was also amped at the time, literally admitted that it would be suicidal taking on Superman.

Supes has also gotten way more powerful since then. Doubt Jay could even keep up with Superman’s speed if they actually fought 😂

One of the few actual still true superheroes...do to most people liking violent vigilantes who talk trash and beat people up. One who basically never uses what he has for peraonal game and will always take a shot for a person even if it could kill him
The emotions in this comic is far more than what you can feel in some of the newly released dramas this year. Dr. Manhattan is literally an all powerful being. Someone that is really hard to write. It is easy to get bored of him as he is easily the strongest superhero out there. But in this comic, we see him not as a hero, but as a being that tried to played god and ended up realizing he's still human by receiving warmth from a kryptonian. An alien who isn't even human but one that showed the greatest humanity out anyone. This is art.
better look into manga then. at least they try to come up with something new, instead of resetting the very same characters again and again, only occasionally changing gender and/or race

Hello thank you for posting this Comic, reading the ‘Doomsday clock’ and the last issue gave me a little hope , my view is kinda hard and dark for work and helping my family but seeing and reading how Dr Manhattan view has been changed by Superman that even in views or visions there still hope no matter what, thanks for the music and this to read it makes my day little better and i wanna point out that this is the main reason why i love superman, he is the center of the universe as ‘Hope’ not because he is ‘OP’ or he has ‘super strength’ or any other abilities its the way how he changes other characters

You have to watch that series about Superman grandfather to understand why the planet blew up, and how. It's a very detailed series and also enjoyable. I didn't get into it long enough to see if there were any superpowers, but there was brainiac. Lol
Him not wearing clothing visually displays his disconnection with humanity. It shows he no longer pretends to be human like dressing up like them. That is until he met Superman.
Despite the fact that Manhattan can obliterate Superman, it's Superman who ultimately saves Manhattan because of the symbol Superman represents. Ultimately why Superman existed in the first place (and why he was created too). I just hope no one forget this series in the future. We need it more than ever.

@@andytay5507 alright Doomsday fan... it could be anyone other than the Hulk. But Dr Manhattan stated it will be a big green guy who can defeat Doomsday. It is already written but in mystery. Then again it is the writer's story in how this mysterious big green guy can defeat Doomsday.
@@Raximus3000 No, he is literally Hope, the Nexus of the DC Universe. This Superman is just an Avatar of the Superman Concept, Doctor Manhattan came to understand that after he tried and failed to change how things went.
@@Raximus3000 Supermen that represent Hope for the people that believe in their message, which is why Earth 2, Red Son and Injustice Superman all have supporters cause what they do isn't for evil reasons, but misguided good reasons.
@@lilabaddie7491 he is the closet we got of a full fledge all powerful god in DC current continuity. He got limit yes, but its emotion and humanity limit not power limit. The Presence simply interfere too little, mainly during new 52 arc like phantom stranger why DS and New Gods are too much brawling.
@@Wishuk112 when was the last time the Archangels appear alongside DC heroes? As i said the Presence is too elusive and rarely interfere, with the last time was in Phantom Stranger's arc and it happened off page. Also with metal reboot the "Hand of God" during Universe's creation, i suspect the Presence is now just a god that inhabits the Sphere, although a powerful one with 3 billion of human followers, but on status no different than Zeus or Odin.
If superman really didn’t have the power to destroy him, dr Manhattan would’ve just looked at him and knew that could’nt be a possible but the fact he actually saw superman destroying him as one of those 2 options means superman has the power within him to do it.
