WOW! We've been to that Suoermaxi many times as we've been to Salinas about 1/2 a dozen times. It's the place to shop when renting a Salinas BnB. Also been to that mall; even went to the movie theater once (English with Spanish subtitles.) That mall food court is super popular during lunch and dinner. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories of Salinas and Libertad!
Thanks again Amelia and JP. I follow you ALL over, it's amazing that you Make us feel that WE Are there, Enjoy ECUADOR what a great country, but at times, I miss CUENCA weather, cause Salinas is too muggy at Times, bon appetit!!!
Very cool. Nice to see Salinas again, at least online. I haven't been to Salinas in some years but we used to have a beach house there. Now Bahia Ecuador and Chone is where I hang out when I go. Have fun and stay safe 😊👍
Quick tip...if using google maps or something similar...download the map of the area where you’ll be. This way even if you have no internet, your phone will still have its gps and you’ll be able to use it. =)
@@AmeliaAndJP all husbands secretly enjoy it more when they annoy us. I always give a little annoyance to make the hubby happy. Even if it is really funny. 👍👍👍Loving your vlogs.
Aroma de Mujer is the translation of “Scent of a Woman”, like the movie with Al Pacino, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Gabrielle Anwar, Chris O’Donnell and a few other great actors. But I think in the some sections of the Spanish market it was translated as “Perfume de Mujer” to avoid the confusion between scent and odour.
I could eat that fruit bowl every day too! It was very satisfying and filling and gave us lots of energy for our long walk. Open holes are very common in Ecuador, but that's the first open clogged sewer that we've seen. ¡Que asqueroso! 🤢
Hi Amelia and JP, Seems like you are having a great time in Cuenca Ecuador. Both of you are doing a great job. I currently living in long island NY. My daughter is vegan and My wife and I were are beginning to change our eating habits and converting to vegetarians. I was born in a city called Ambato in Ecuador. This is the city of fruits and flowers located a couple hours from cuenca in the andes.. When are you planing to visit Ambato. I'm very much wants to see the city where I was born. Thank You
That is great regarding the information you will be able to share with us. I wrote something about such information before I knew you had arranged that. Next step: start a book to include that information as well as a lot more, such as transportation schedules and your favorite restaurants to talk about in your videos. Of course, your expat subscribers will be happy to buy such books from you for themselves as well as for Christmas gifts. Your are building a large company that will become indispensable soon. Best wishes for health and success.
Hola Amelia y JP “Café con aroma de mujer” was a very popular and famous Colombian telenovela in South America a few years ago. It is not women’s odor but scent. And this coffee shop is not only selling coffee but tea too, so he added “Tea” to the famous telenovela title. I am sure that everyone in Ecuador relates the telenovela and bot the Al Pacino movie.
That is correct. For us Ecuadorians, Colombians, and others in South America, it is very clearly about the telenovela. No doubt about it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caf%C3%A9_con_aroma_de_mujer_(Colombian_TV_series)
We filmed them last year in Cuenca. A lot of Cuencanos leave Cuenca for this holiday because about 100,000 people go there for the feriados. In fact, the family across the hall is from Cuenca. The whole country celebrates each of the independence days so Salinas is very busy this weekend too.
Hi Guys." Aroma de mujer" is sort of an idiomatic expression. It means the scent or the essence of a woman. Some people use the saying of" Cafe con aroma de mujer" to mean how rich the coffee is., how much you enjoy the cup of coffee. Salinas is nice. Enjoy it.
FIVE dollars for a bag of rice?????? That aint exactly cheap !!!!! Holy crap and Amelia.. there were German GEHWOHL Sandals in that window.. you should get you a pair.. they are the most amazingly comfortable shoes EVER..
It may look that way because we love our life together, but we work ALL the time 😭We both have jobs plus our RU-vid Channel that is now my full time job (JP). But it's a lot of fun! Starbucks isn't in Ecuador, but some places sell Starbucks coffee. We prefer the Ecuadorian coffee though. Cuenca has lots of good coffee places but we only found one good coffee place in Salinas: Goodfellas on the Malecón.
There was a very famous Colombian soap opera with the name Café Con Aroma de Mujer. Meaning that the coffee tastes so good as the woman that appeared on the series because she was sexy. And the meaning is poetic, not literal. I never saw it but it was the thing that everyone was talking about
Thanks for showing inside the supermaxi and the prices. Is there a commercial Ecuadorian peanut butter? The Peanut butter from the USA was VERY expensive - will definitely give that a big miss.
There are several kinds of Ecuadorian peanut butter and we think they're much better than the US brands. Most don't have added oil, sugar or preservatives and they're a lot cheaper.
Buy some peanuts and make your own. Ecuador 101. You want a corn dog, make your own. You want sausage, make your own. You want a donut, make your own.😍 You get the idea. I married an ecuadorian in 2000. The last 4-5 years lots of stuff has arrived, but always fresher and cheaper to make it. Best wishes! Saludos!
We are thinking of moving to Salinas from SE Asia and did a weather comparison with a town in the Algarve section of Portugal. Weather data covers the whole gamut of natures actions. Surprising to us was that Salinas just dominated the Algarve town with better weather statistics. However, Salinis was really, really bad on the humidity metric. Yet I have not seen any indication on any YouRube posting regarding this point. We are talking variable ratings that include oppressive, miserable, muggy on the worst end of the humidity scale. What was your experience. Also, cloud cover was the second metric where Portugal just dominated. Again what was your take on sunny days vs. a mixture of cloudy to really dark skies?. . .
Salinas is more like a dessert so we didn’t notice much humidity but we were there in November before the summer season. It is cloudy there a lot during the winter months from June through August.
We haven't seen a single mosquito except for the larva in the open manhole. I'm guessing they get worse as the weather warms up. It's still in the 70s now but it'll be in the 90s by January.
Fue un poco el motivo. En realidad. Y trate de tomar una vía diferente. Y ecuador es para saver que tan grave es el asuntito de madrearse. Día y noche sin descansar. Es una realidad este ecotsito airestoncito
We may split our time between the two places. My back feels so much better here in the warm air and no altitude issues either. We still love Cuenca though!
@@AmeliaAndJP I was lucky -- I never had any real altitude issues in either Quito or Cuenca. I climbed Cotopaxi without feeling a trace of altitude illness, etc. And I just prefer the cooler weather overall.
One assumes one would have to pay with one's wallet, so it seems strange having to take one's wallet out of one's bag, lock it up then retrieve the bag after checkout.
We didn't have time to show the mercado in yesterday's video, but we'll show it in today's if we have time to get over there. A lot of gringos prefer Supermaxi since it's very similar to a grocery store back in the states. And the mercados don't have many packaged items like almond milk, peanut butter, dried fruit, pita bread, tofu, spices, etc. The mercados are great for whole plant foods like fruits, veggies, legumes and whole grains, but not for packaged or speciality items.
