Great reaction! I almost didn't watch this because I remembered this episode of Supernatural being kind of a throwaway one, but you're right that there were some really meaningful moments in the second half. I think I also struggled with this one because I was frustrated with Dean for giving up on the search for a cure. When I first watched, I really thought that was just a cop out. But you're right that there's a certain amount of maturity in accepting something & committing yourself to learning to live with it. And Dean really *has* grown a lot. Anyway, all of that is just to say I enjoyed watching this one with you a lot more than I expected! Thank you for the lovely & thoughtful reaction.
Not sure whether anyone has told you this but that girl, Janet, from the cold open who escaped from the truck and who Sam and Dean questioned in the early investigation phase, she is Maddie Phillips who played the character Cate Dunlap in Gen V and also in The Boys. She did look so different with darker hair color instead of blonde which we are more familiar with.
Dean realizing that nothing is really ever Gone from the internet is priceless I know a lot of people don't like this episode personally I think it's great
Right there with you. I really enjoyed the ghost hunt/ Urban legend episodes in earlier seasons, sprinkled with other entities for the brothers to deal with. To see a ghost haunt take place as it did in this episode, was quite a delight.
I agree, the second half is much better. About Dean, he could have hope of finding a cure and at the same time, keep fighting it. Eventually Dean won't be able to handle it and he could end of hurting a lot of people. It doesn't make sense for him to give up the chance to fix this before things get worse.
When I first watched this season I was annoyed that every episode, even the filler, had some key reference or parallel with the Mark of Cain. It annoyed me because I thought the writers were being too hard on Dean, having him relive this over and over again not giving him a break. Even Sam had breaks in season 4&5 from demon and what he did. Same for season 6 with his actions being soulless, and & for the hallucinations (Which ultimately was a mistake). But on rewatch I've learned to appreciate how they handled it. Its a process that you can't ignore and it feels natural. We start off with dean as his lowest as Demon, then we spend the next few episodes with him trying to get back to normal with a few slip ups here or there but you can see he's being more open about it. Only for him to lose it and him spending the three episodes depressed and struggling. Last episode was a break from that, for something good to happen to Dean, but it was a distraction or as Dean put it this episode him in denial. This episode has Dean taking a serious look at his situation, really thinking about it, and while fans like myself don't like his negative outlook it is a reasonable one, Dean living on hope alone isn't healthy, he needs to face some harsh truths.
This has nothing to do with Supernatural, but, I’m not sure if you have a designated place for people to suggest shows ... I recently watched your The Sandman reactions and I was wondering if you’ve watched Dead Boy Detectives? It’s in the same universe and it came out relatively recently (in April)! Also, I guess this is kind of relevant to Supernatural, because one of the actresses from this show is in Dead Boy Detectives :)
Yup, really lame episode that was totally ripping off I Know What You Did Last Summer. Maybe if the acting was a bit better and if it wasn't so obvious they were running off those movie tropes; I could appreciate it more. It honestly feels like an unused season 1 script that got dusted off for season 10. This definitely would have been one of the crappier season 1 episodes.
