Supernatural | 8x9: “Citizen Fang” REACTION!! 

Dean never said "I don't trust anyone but Benny." He said "If there's one thing I know, it's that Benny has never let me down." There's a big difference, and the problem is that Sam interpreted the wrong way, and a lot of his actions as a result of this were out of jealousy. What Dean actually said is that Benny has never given him a reason to distrust him, so he's gonna give him the benefit of the doubt until he sees irrefutable evidence that Benny has done wrong. And yeah, he hasn't known Benny for a really long time, but the time they have known each other, they've been through a LOT. Think about it, the show shows us the conflicts with the monsters, and that's what we see in each episode, along with the drama that come with those conflicts, but there's a lot of downtime between all of this. But that wasn't the case in purgatory, because it was non stop fighting and bloodshed, like if you cut 90% of the drama out of the show and replaced it with back to back fights with monsters. And Benny could have betrayed Dean at any time during that, but never did. So of course Dean developed a REALLY strong bond with him over that, given that they'd both been through near literal hell together. Heck, they probably saw more conflict in their time together in purgatory than Dean has in the rest of his life put together. Now, sending Sam to Emilia was honestly the one bad move by Dean here, but other than that, I completely side with him in this.

Sam's jealousy towards Benny and Dean's disregard for Sam's life choices have really created a mess. They are both being idiots so far this season.

They both betrayed and been against each other many times. Benny and Dean relationship should not be only talked about. When Sam met Ruby he had f*ucked over and kept so much away from Dean his BROTHER. They fairly both go tic for tac. See both sides.

We learn in 1x20 that vampires sleep during the day! They CAN be woken up tho & they don't sleep in coffins But to be fair, we never see them sleeping again in the whole series (I think)

I'm sorry, and I know this is about to sound terrible, but I don't feel bad at all for what happened to Martin. He brought it on himself by going after Benny and his great granddaughter for no reason other than Benny is a vampire. And before anybody compares what Benny did here to what Amy did and try to call Dean a hypocrite for not going after Benny, it's not the same thing. Nobody was threatening to harm or tried to harm Amy and/or her son, she looked for victims and killed them for her son, whereas Benny killed Martin in self-defense, and last time I checked, killing in self-defense isn't wrong. Now what's wrong is Dean sending Sam that 911 pretending to be Amelia. Although I understand why Dean did it, he felt Sam was going to kill Benny, no questions asked, and on top of that, add Martin, with the same mindset as Sam, into the mix, it would've been a mess. So, to avoid that mess, he eliminated Sam from the equation via Amelia distraction. However, Dean doing that had Sam going through mental and emotional turmoil and that's wrong on so many levels. Edit: Also, I don't see a problem with Dean saying to Sam that all his relationships have gone to crap and that Benny has never let him down because he's right. And Sam was hurt by that, but the truth hurts sometimes. On the other hand, Dean was making a general statement. Sam isn't the only one he's had a fractured relationship with. Are we forgetting romantic partners (Cassie and Lisa), friends (Castiel), and other family members (John)? So, yeah, Dean was speaking on his experience.

Cameron, Insane Asylums are for the criminally insane. Including killers, if a state/country doesn't have the death penalty for psycho killings those people are not going to be locked up in prison, they are going to the 'nut house'. Martin was also a hunter, which means he was killing a lot of creatures and maybe he couldn't tell where the line was anymore so he checked himself in (I feel like I remember Martin say he checked himself in when we first saw him)

9:19 Benny hasn't had the _opportunity_ to let Dean down A.) They've known each other _less than a year_ B.) They've only known each other in Purgatory, where they had a sort of symbiotic alliance (Benny helps Dean find Cas & Dean helps Benny escape purgatory) C.) Dean has seen Benny like TWICE since they returned to earth

It may have sounded harsh, but he's not wrong. Sam has let him down in some major ways. Sam acts so offended, but it's hard to sympathize when even in this episode we see him going behind Dean's back to spy on Benny, letting Martin sucker punch him and leave him chained up because he doesn't want to believe Dean or trust him enough to work with him. And if that would’ve ended in Benny being killed for something he didn’t do, that would just further prove his point.

I try my best to be on the sides of both brothers, but in this case I had a very hard time agreeing with Sam and it was very easy to agree with Dean. I mean Benny didn’t kill anyone and Dean was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, which he was right to do. Sam just wanted to kill Benny because he was a vampire and nothing more which makes Sam a serious hypocrite when you flashback to Amy and it’s out of character when you think back to the vampire nest that fed in cows that sam wanted to spare from season 2.

Nah Cam is right Sam was planing on check on Benny by himself because to him, Deans judgement was wrong or blinded by their friendship, Martin just happened to Ko Dean, which gave Sam the chance to do what he wanted to do regardless, his brother getting punched or not

What Dean did, texting Sam so he’d think Amelia is in trouble and leave? That was so messed up. Sam’s lost almost every girl he’s ever loved and for Dean to take that information and use it as ammunition? Nah, that’s all kinds of messed up.

What Dean did to Sam was genius but was also cruel. What Sam did with Benny was done out of jealousy. What Martin did was out of line, he is still nuts, but after Dean got Sam out of the picture he should have followed up on Martin. The rest of the season is great.

The fandom is so dumb sometimes. You can like both brothers and having this pissing match at the end of every video debating whether sam's an idiot or deans an idiot is fatiguing, they're both impulsive and reckless, they both have and continue to make STUPID decisions in the moment. That's just how it be, i love both sam and dean. I recognize the character flaws, one's not better than the other. Can we please stop arguing ffs.

"Any Hunter worth his salt wont just let a vamp roam around" So he says after vouching for Lenor and her nest. Even got Dean to let them go too. Honestly I love them both sometimes one more than the other, other times vice versa (Don't really have a favorite brother) but Sam was being a hypocrite on this issue and i am confused as to how everyone doesn't see it? Dean is finally doing what Sam has always done, what he has always been trying to get Dean to see and he suddenly doesn't like it? It was actively waiting and wanting Ben to trip up hust to find a ground to stand on that was the main issue for me. It looked more like spite than anything else(the brother thing got to him). That being said, i really have a big problem with Dean not seeing it from Sam's perspective.

I always felt like the main reason Sam hated Benny was he was jealous that Dean could make his own friends while he couldn’t. And that’s not me being harsh that a fact. Castiel, Benny and even Garth are more Dean’s friends than Sam. In fact most of the reoccurring cast has more of a relationship and scenes with Dean than Sam. Like Kevin and Bobby, even though he was important to both the writers gave him more time with Dean. The only exception to this are Sam’s love interests which the writers gave him more of than Dean but yeah Sam doesn’t have his own friends

there is so much going on in this episode. what dean said about every relationship he had has disappointed him including sam so I don't think he should be that offended. What dean did to sam was a genius and necessary bcoz I guess at some point sam needed to see Ameli so he could get closure because GOD sam was so hung up on amelia and from what I saw from the flashback amelia was his rebound in some way. Sam should have heard dean out because benny and his family were victims here.

Maybe a hot take but I think Sam deserves it lol Even if he didn’t want to support Dean helping Benny, he shouldn’t have actively gone against him. Dean has earned that. In that year Benny was a better brother to Dean.

the thing i don't get about these comments or this reaction is everybody saying Sam snaked dean when martin was the one who punched him here and knocked him out martin snaked dean not sam and second of all i also don't get the comments saying Sam didn't stop martin from punching dean and snaking him. is this the twilight zone and am i watching the same episode you people are watching Sam didn't stop martin from punching dean because he didn't expect it or know it was going to happen i mean look at his reaction to the punch Sam clearly said "what did you do that for" or "what the hell martin" so Judging from his reaction here he's clearly shocked and surprised by the punch but you're right and i do agree he could have stopped martin from handcuffing dean though.🔥🔥🔥🔥

9:20 I get how that sounds but it’s not like that’s coming from nowhere. I mean remember when Sam trusted Ruby and freed Lucifer or Cas in his New God phase. So that whole “he has never let me down” comes from experiences of being let down by his friends and family. And if anything Sam’s actions in this episode alone doesn’t help his argument

We all remember what Dean's reaction was when Sam started the apocalypse , I mean the war between demons and angels and horsemen killed thousands and it all started with killing Lilith, in this episode what Dean did was stupid but after being left alone by Martin and Sam, maybe he even did the right thing, I mean, in the whole series, Sam always talked about how monsters can be good, and Benny didn't do anything wrong, I'm not saying I don't have a problem with what Dean did, These brothers both did crazy things, but it is not right to blame each of them It's like, okay, you left me, you went with Martin, and you want to kill my friend who didn't kill anyone? So I am sending you a fake text message to make you think that the girl you love is in danger so that I can save my innocent friend. ..Sam has done a lot of wrong things and so has Dean. When we look closely, we realize that the story was never about how Sam and Dean wanted to live, it was about the lives they saved or destroyed. And of course both deserve a good life

So I never understood why Sam had such a problem with Benny but none at all with Castiel. Unlike Benny Sam has reasons for not liking Cas, aside from him letting Sam out while high on demon blood, he was the one getting Dean to doubt him. Plus you know bringing him back soulless and breaking the wall. Sure he fixed it and redeemed himself but Sam never showed signs of hating for it nor did he criticize Dean for his trust in Cas or his "mourning" of him, or just Dean viewing him as a friend. Now yes Cas is an angel not a monster but their both enemies of the brothers so same thing. Yet Sam seems to have an unexplainable desire to view Benny as the bad guy without really knowing him or him doing anything hurtful to Sam at all

It's not known why Sam left with Martin. Maybe it was to STOP him from killing Benny. Maybe it was too talk Martin in to taking another rout other than going in 🔫 blazing. If he'd stayed behind with Dean, there wouldn't have been anyone to stop Martin. Maybe THAT is why Sam went with him. After all, we saw how Martin reacted when Dean called Sam away. I don't understand why Dean always gets a pass and it's easily assumed that Sam is always wrong and a horrible person. Nobody is perfect.

I don't see that as being disrespectful, I mean tbh Sam hasn't always been reliable nor had Dean's back. He might be his brother but there have been multiple instances where Sam just straight up couldn't be trusted. And yeah Dean killing Amy was pretty bad, but one negative pales in comparison to how often Sam let Dean down. Ruby, the demon blood, I mean there's a laundry list. It's not disrespectful it's just the truth.

I don't care about what people say, I still think it was horrible what Dean said to Sam after all they've been through. Of course Sam made some mistakes but so did Dean, and Sam never said to him anything like that, unless he was posessed or sth. I really started to not like Dean from this season, and all these things he's saying to Sam lead to what happenes at the end of this season

First!

This is by far one of the worst seasons of the show, mostly due to the writers fundamentally trying to change what we know of the characters and what they stand for/believe in. You want to root for them, but they both are locked into this silly argument with no real solutions. It was just frustrating to watch, and even the actors hated it lol. Especially Sam’s character this season. That was probably one of the biggest flubs of the whole show. But season 9 is absolutely stellar & has a far more interesting plot. The show really picks up again after this season and really starts to go uphill. And without spoilers obvi, despite the season not being the best, the season finale for season 8 is surprisingly one of the coolest in the entire show. Can’t wait for y’all to get there!
