Jensen would have made a great Hawkeye but he turned it down because this show means so much to him and he didn’t want to leave his family hanging. It’s great that he gets to be a much less wholesome version of a superhero on The Boys because that really fits his real life personality lmao. This episode is much better than Wendigo. That one is toward the bottom of my rankings of all the episodes. If it weren't for the iconic "Saving people, hunting things" line I would hardly remember it. Also forget Human Torch...we are breathlessly waiting for Jensen to land Batman. He want's it, we want it, and he's voiced him twice now for animated movies so I don't know what James Gunn is waiting for! The next one is a fun episode! Can't wait to see you see it? Lol.

Ugh I’m sorry for continuing to write essays in the comments. This show has truly given me complete brain rot. Something that I find interesting about this fandom is that we’re not only focused on the actors themselves, but there’s a lot of attention paid to the writers, directors, and other members of the production team. A lot of us are fairly familiar with certain recurring writers’ styles and know what tone they set for their episodes. That being said, this episode introduces two relatively important people. The first is Sera Gamble, who co-wrote this episode with Raelle Tucker. They go on to co-write several more episodes together in the early seasons before Sera eventually begins writing on her own, and later (for better or worse) becomes show runner after Kripke leaves. The other important crew member introduced this episode is the wonderfully talented director, Kim Manners. He was known for his previous work on the X Files, among others, and his style heavily influenced the early seasons of Supernatural. He directed a total of 17 episodes and was executive producer/co-executive producer throughout the first four seasons before he sadly passed away in 2009. He is still spoken about and remembered fondly today by members of the cast and crew, and was a beloved and integral part of the show. Okay now on to the fun stuff! 1:38 Problematic? Noooo couldn’t be this show. Surely you’re thinking of something else 😬 3:02 this under water shot is an homage to Jaws 3:50 Agents Ford and Hamill! Kripke is a Star Wars fan and partially based Sam and Dean on Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, hence the aliases. 5:20 AMY ACKER! This is one of my favorite early episodes. I love both of the boys, but Dean Winchester is my favorite character in any piece of media, ever. He’s sometimes written almost cartoonishly one-dimensionally in the beginning of the show, but he becomes one of the most well-developed, complex, and fascinating characters throughout the 15 seasons. This is the first episode where we really start to see the depth of his character, and I think it’s where the cracks in his “macho ladies man” bravado start to show. Those surface level traits begin to be revealed for what they really are. It’s all a mask, a performance that he puts on every day, that he buries his trauma under until it cracks and bleeds out in bursts of anger and self sabotage. The essays I could write on this man… but I’ll stop here. Dean is surprisingly good with kids. You will see that throughout the series.

That scene with Dean pushing out of the water with the little kid in his arm hits so hard. It hits even hard after hear the actor Jensen Ackles talking about the filming of that scene, being in the water with people wearing suits under the water pulling his legs, as he is trying to swim toward the surface with the child actor (or it was just a doll;I can't remember if they used the actor child actor when filming that part or not) in his arms. Jensen has talked about the fear of the situation and the mental space of being in the scene. It makes the scene one of my favorites and the first major emotional scene (but differently not the last from Jensen/Dean). Edit: Haven't heard the idea of being Human touch before, not bad idea. The main one hear a lot is him maybe being Batman. He did an excellent and amazing job playing Jason Todd in The Batman: Under the RedHood animated movie, to the point that their are people still to this day that want him to play Jason Todd (especially since he him self is a big comic fan, especially DC comic fan), but in my opinion he is just to old now to play Jason Todd. Jason was 16 when he died and then was brought back to live and became RedHood, while Jensen looks young for his age, he is most definitely not a teenager. With that fact most fans are okay with him being Batman, because he has the acting ability, and love for the character, to play Batman on the big screen/live-action.

Yeah this Jensen would have been an awesome Human Torch, but sadly I'd say he's aged out of that one unless they make some major changes since he's usually in his 20s right? Now Batman on the other hand..... 😂

Jensen plays soldier boy on The boys and he voices Batman in the long Halloween animated movie. the fandom wants him to play live action Batman as he would be awesome in the role. you'll see what we mean later in the series. he even has a batman suit and dressed up for Halloween one year. also its not Ackles with a long A sound but a as in aha for Ackles.

I had a pack of 72 crayons that they came in a case that had 3 rows with a plastic hinged bit that was the cover would swing around to basically prop up the box. I would accidentally knock it over all the time and then would want to put them in huge rainbow order. XD Apparently there’s one on eBay for $80, vintage 1987 lol

I always got stuck using the teachers crappy jumbo crayons in only primary colors lol. The 64 pack was so coveted in elementary school

I love that this episode shows us that Dean has layers. I loved him from the beginning, but yeah, funny playboy was the majority of his character at this point, then you see him connect to this kid, and talk about his trauma 🥺. I loved him getting owned by Andrea in the beginning though. Hilarious. The bathtub has been joked about since it aired. There are definitely some jokes that are a bit more eye roll worthy today, especially with Dean and women, but mostly holds up. Nothing too terrible.

My favorite part of this was your story about crayons :) As an over 60 yr old woman that remembers the excitement of the first time seeing the 64 crayon box as well,lol. I had to double check the history, that box came out in 1958. But watching a young mans memory of discovery just made my morning, thanks. As for the episode.. kind of loved the way they solved this and Dean's reactions with Lucas were great. These early episodes gave us great everyday heroes!

Decent episode, not my favorite but I enjoyed it more than episode 2 I think. I really liked seeing Amy Acker in the episode, her flirtation with Dean was cute but he doesn't have to flirt with literally everyone lol. I did enjoy getting to learn a tiny bit more about Dean and just how he dealt with his moms death. I'm still with Sam though, they should be going after their father lol.
