Such a powerful episode...the erasure of Lisa and Ben memory is one of the saddest part of this Season

The reason Dean didn't get his own memories wiped is so he is still able to watch over them. I find this episode very powerful and I think Dean did the best thing for them.

Poor Dean. I know a lot of people give him hate over this but really it was the writers own fault! They needed to close the door on Dean ever having a normal life with Lisa & Ben, and yes there are some logistics that them not remembering wouldn't guarantee their safety, but it does because their never mentioned again. It's a rushed conclusion for an arc, it's not perfect but it could've been worse, at least they didn't die.

We are finally getting to where i really start enjoying the show :p Season 7 and 8 really start to get me invested.. and crying lol

I loved the H.P. Lovecraft bit! I did not see that ending of Lisa & Ben playing out like that. I knew it would hurt and that it did.

And so for now ends one of the, for me, more frustrating storylines. On paper, I can get behind the idea of Dean making an attempt at leaving the hunter's life as a promise to his "dying" brother. I can see the beauty in that, and I think that's the premise of an interesting story; Dean has fought so long to protect other "normal" people from having their lives destroyed by the supernatural, which took away his "normal" family life. But Dean has been so long and far removed from that way of living, does he even fully understand the thing he is fighting for? I'd love to see a character like that attempt to live a "normal" life; as defined by their experiences as a child, and watching from the outside growing up. I'd love to see the struggle between expectations and reality, the ideal and the real world, and perhaps even see such a character learning to put aside the idea of what "normal" is supposed to be, in favour of living the life that actually makes them happy. I would have loved that for Dean! If the show ended at season 5, and this story about Dean moving on was a spin-off, I'd have been interested. But the way the show did this just rubs me the wrong way, and worse, it bores me. Lisa, to me, feels less like a character and more like a plot device for quickly providing Dean with a little Ideal Normal Life for them to "tragically" rip away from him, for him to "heroically" abandon. Lisa is Hot Yoga Mum with White Picket Fence House and Mini-Dean Child. Lisa immediately takes Dean in; despite not really knowing him that well, despite their previous encounters being filled with danger or ominous warnings, despite Dean clearly being unwell following Sam's "death", despite his history of just disappearing. Lisa is NOT normal for just letting Dean into her and her son's life. As a parent, you explore a potential partner more thoroughly before letting them into your child's everyday life, to avoid causing your child more heartbreak if the relationship doesn't work out, and also to ensure that the person you are with is going to be an impact on your child that you want. Now, I don't mind a character being a flawed mother, who puts her romantic life before her child's wellbeing, perhaps out of ignorance as to how much that affects her child. Those people exist, and can be interesting characters! But it doesn't seem like Lisa is meant to be that? I don't really know who Lisa is, and that's my main problem with her. It feels like the writer's weren't really interested in her and her story, only in writing a tragedy for Dean, so Lisa becomes whatever they need her to be for them to have that story. But for me personally, it just means that I'm not invested, at all. And this episode is such a little microcosm of my experience with this storyline. The writer's want Dean to make a morally grey, tragic sacrifice to protect Lisa and Ben, so Lisa and Ben get mindwiped. Except that doesn't make any sense if you think about it. If you put down the glasses of "look at what this means for Dean!! He's giving up his relationship with them, how sad!! They get to live blissfully unaware of the supernatural world, but Dean must continue carrying that cross forever, how noble!!", you see how it's nonsense. From Lisa and Ben's perspective, they both suffered amnesia from a car crash. There's gaps in all their memories from the last year or so. People around them mention a guy neither of them recall, who lived with them. Surely there are pictures of Dean, they find them in their home or someone shows them pictures from a barbeque they were all at, and it's that guy who said he ran into them! Wait, was he driving the car, and then he just decided to ghost them completely when he found out they didn't remember him? What is going on? Dean made protective wards in their home, surely they come across those at some point? Lisa and Ben would be living a psychological nightmare, and for what? Dean still remembers them, Crowley etc. still know they matter to Dean, it doesn't matter that Lisa and Ben don't know him. Only now they are more vulnerable, because they don't even know how to defend themselves, or that they even should. The writer's just did not care to think anything through from Lisa and Ben's perpective, and it's borderline hilarious how bad that's on display this episode, and I'm grateful that's over, at least for now 😂

Agreed with Dean slapping Ben in that moment. Ben was about to go into full on shock and have a breakdown and they did NOT have time for that. That slap was to smack him out of it so he could keep going and they could get to safety. It's completely fucked to wipe people's memories, IMO. I assume they had no choice in the matter. Dean/Cass shoulda left that up to them, otherwise it's very... mind... rape-y. Think about it like Castiel assaulted their brains and stole their memories. Those were theirs. He took part of their minds. That's fucked.

Sam has no reason to be angry with Dean. For starters his memory wipe was of times when he was a sociopath also it was needed to keep him from losing his sanity.

I agree with how you feel about the episode and the season in general.

I also always thought that just mind whipping is stupid it accomplish nothing, hurt Dean and still put them in danger without any protection.

I knew of the actress playing Lisa as a different character before I found Supernatural..Angie was a stronger character so I never really saw her as Lisa.

This is a horrible penultimate episode imo all the Lisa/Ben crap should've wrapped up 10 episodes ago when they last appeared and since we barely see them and have no emotional connection to them i really don't care about the outcome.

Sera Gamble called Supernatural "the epic love story of Sam and Dean." Kripke actually agreed with her. Sam and Dean may care very much for other people, but they don't really have room in their lives for anyone else but each other. They are canonically soulmates. Lisa and Ben were an interlude in Dean's life. He didn't actually choose them; he went to Lisa because that was what Sam wanted for Dean. I have read that the original ending for the series had Dean following Sam into the pit. Kripke said that after all, Supernatural was a horror story.

So tired of waiting for this trash show to end. Jeez, too long.
