The "story" of the show isn't Leviathans, or angels/demons or any other villain of the season. The story is Sam and Dean and their everyday life and growth. "Monster of the Week" episodes are the whole point of it, that's what people watch SPN for.

In later seasons I did miss the "monster of the week" episodes, as they do get rarer ... or at least it feels like it =O

@@BestAnimeFreak Yes. The overarching plots seemed to take precedence in the later seasons, but there were still some good MOTW episodes. As I said above, I enjoy the MOTW episodes most because they deal predominantly with Sam and Dean's daily life and relationship as brothers fighting evil. And that is what I find the most fascinating. :)

Yes, many times the “main” story is not the point of the story. Many episodes are simply monster-of-the-week episodes used to push forward a bigger through line. Which is Sam losing his sanity. The Amazons were also nothing but the monster-of-the-week. You don’t waste time talking about them in other episodes (was surprised they even mentioned them in passing). Yes, this is one of the weakest seasons, but you don’t seem to like even the average episodes anymore. You want every episode to be all about the season arc, but this isn’t a modern day streaming show. There have always been filler episodes, they do the best they can by at least throwing a nod to the main story in each. They have 22 episodes per season, they have to spread out the main story arc or they would be done with it in 8.

Well said. I much prefer this traditional way of telling a story , giving us self-contained episodes while adding a little bit of the overarching plotline in each one, compared to the current model of five or six episodes which supposedly should be more impactful with regard to the story arc but often end up boring and uninteresting. Give me SPN and the great monster of the week episodes any day. :)

Hang in there Jer I feel like after this next episode is when we start to feel a bit more like it's moving in the right direction. Parts of 6 and 7 are rough admittedly but as someone who has watched through countless times it all just feel like a means to an end. I can feel you getting completely frustrated, but i promise whatever struggle you're feeling will dissipate.

the purpose if this ep was to have Sam let Lucifer back in., and it worked. crazy sam is my fav part of this whole season and this is another step in that direction again. Also the poor damn dog, do you notice we react way more when they kill a poor defenseless dog then when they kill a person on tv???

I don't undersand why you don't like the monster of the week episodes. They are some of the best episodes of all. Perhaps it's because you are binge watching the show and have become desensitized to how good they are. I actually prefer them to most of the various seasons' overarching plotlines. However each of us has different sensibilities.

I agree with your feelings about seasons 6 and 7. I did like this episode, though, because I liked the plot about a demon possessing a serial killer. Also, the Sam and Lucifer scenes were great.

6:26 I always wondered why would anyone go investigate? You are in a big city, there is some clustering in the alley ... could be literally anything that doesn't concern you one bit. Could be a cat knocking shit over, could be a homeless guy moving his stuff, could be a drunk wandering around, could be some random ass workers who have some random ass job to do ... literally none of those things are worth checking out, so why even bother? Don't you have something better to do? xD

That's my biggest problem with this whole Hallucination arc, theirs no build up and if feels neglected. Fake Lucifer hasn't shown up since Bobby died and that was a brief appearance, And Sam's hallucinations haven't been the main plot in an episode since the first 2. Which is a shame cause when it is the focus it has the best acting in the show! But again the main issue is that it hasn't happened that much this season, for the last few episodes Sam has been fine now suddenly things are getting worse for him.

Only good thing about this episode, imo, is Lucifer’s humor.. I absolutely love Mark Pellegrino! He’s soo good! I promise you brother bear, the show eventually gets really good again.. hang in there buddy.. ☺️ Season 7 is the most disjointed season of the series.. 🫤

My least favorite episode of the season. I mute that part with the dog as well. Can’t stand it. Lucifer and Sam’s interactions are truly great though and it saved the episode from being skipped by me on rewatch

Literally one of my least favorite episodes, I have no problem with bugs or the others that people dislike the ghost ship etc. because the dog dies for no F$&@ing reason ! Unless the dog chooses to save the humans and gives its life then it doesn’t deserve to die Ok rant over
