Ep from Cass' POV! I love how you see Dean trying to be so loyal to Cass, the conversation over the holy fire just always hits different. "Where were you when I needed to hear it?" "I was there, where were you?" UGHH love it!

This is a great episode. The look on Dean's face when he finds out about Cas "betrayals" is so heartbreaking.

God, I love this episode so much! Getting a Cas focused episode really was my favorite thing. And I do love that it‘s a pretty complicated issue because Cas isn‘t exactly wrong but he‘s also not right. (Also I do love the Cas & Crowley dynamic)

see this is why I love season 6. The whole season is a winding mystery that comes to a head right during the march to the finale.

it’s hard for me to pick a favorite episode, but this one usually comes to mind when this question is asked. my fav character is cas, and not only is this a cas-centric episode, but it’s also really well written. it has my favorite quote from the show too: “freedom is a length of rope, god wants you to hang yourself with it”. because that’s where it boils down for cas. dean (and sam and bobby, but mainly dean) taught him free will, but he is new at this. and like he told dean “i did this for you, i did this because of you” he did it to protect dean and his newfound family (and their world) but it overwhelmed him, he tied the rope around his neck basically. the most heartbreaking part is that throughout the episode dean refused to believe cas would betray him, and his face both at cas’s slip and when he can’t look him in his eyes kills me. i always loved cas but this episode gave me an even bigger appreciation of this character, not in spite but because of his flaws. it fleshes him out, his intentions, weaknesses, and relationships he has formed. him working with crowley happened because he didn’t want to drag dean back into this, but as a consequence of his actions not only did dean get dragged back in, but their relationship also got severely damaged. lastly, this episode puts the whole season into perspective (which wasn’t my favorite, especially the first time i watched it) and it makes it more fun to rewatch. i definitely enjoyed your reactions to it!

The main problem with Cas story is the writers failed to make Raphel a good villain. Yeah he's a powerful threat, but he lack presence and personality. He's barely even in the season, in ways though not as strong Eve made a better villain. She only appeared a few times but at least one of her plans led to the death of a character, Rufus.

My favorite part is in the beginning when it’s like cas is looking right at you in the eye in the soul. Lol

The plan isn't for an army from purgatory, it's power. Remember when Cas used just a light touch to Bobby's soul to recharge and go back in time? He told him souls are like nuclear reactors. Heaven and Hell are powered by the souls they control. Cas isn't an archangel but if he could absorb the power of all those untapped souls he hopes to be equal to Rafael. Crowley got the throne of Hell through smarts rather than pure power. He's no Lucifer so he also wants to power up with extra souls to become archangel like in strength in order to keep his position.

This episode is crucial. It would make sense that cas and Crowley could join forces and run heaven and hell respectively. Yeah cas, made alot of bad choices but he was trying to help. He should've gone to Dean a lot sooner.

There are many fan theories where Sam's handprint is since it must be below the belt... One drew a cartoon of Cas dragging Sam up by the ankle.

This is the end of the 100% trust they had in Cas. It was never the same after this. Cas had a good reason and good intentions but it turned out so bad. Sad.

Sam has every reason to be pissed at Cas. For starters the two of them were never friends to begin with, in fact I'm pretty sure he only saved Sam because of Dean. Now to be fair it was clear that Cas didn't know Sam didn't have a soul when he brought him back, that still doesn't mean he isn't responsible for all the terrible things he did while soulless, plus he lied about for so long
@Da1337Man
@Da1337Man Год назад
I would have thought Sam of all people would show atleast a shred of sympathy, even if its not much, considering he was in a very similar situation in season 4 when he hulked out with demon blood. He thought the fate of the world was on his shoulders, felt like he had no other choice and did terrible things because of that. But i guess both brothers were self righteous douchewads in season 6. It's okay when they make demon deals, but suddenly its a crisis when somebody else does it.
@patrickmcguire7896
@patrickmcguire7896 Год назад
@@Da1337Man The issue with your statement and why your wrong about them being self-righteous is the aftermath. Yeah Sam was in the same situation as Cas and he made the wrong choice by working with demons which is why he's against Cas plan. And yes they worked with Crowly because they had no choice but he still ended up double crossing them by keeping Bobby's deal, which is why they aren't eager to resume a partnership with him. Now I don't fault Cas for his discission, I do get where he's coming from but I also understand why the rest of Team Free Will would be against it. Also you keep overlooking the big issue that Cas kept this secret from them! I believe that if he explained himself from the beginning the others might've come around or at least stay out of his way, but by keeping a secret they would obviously have trust issues with him.
@Da1337Man

@@patrickmcguire7896 I think one of the reasons Cas didn't come to Dean for help against Raphael is because 1) Cas needed help right then, within the next 24 hours, because his only two options were submit or die. How could Dean possibly be of any help against an archangel on such short notice? They don't even have a way to kill an Archangel period! 2) It was Sam's dying wish that Dean lives the life of a boring everyday citizen. Dragging Dean back into this mess is the last thing Sam wanted, not to mention that also puts Lisa and Ben in danger as they become weak points that can be used against Dean. 3) Cas had no idea he brought Sam back soulless at first, and by the time he examined him mid season, he probably felt too ashamed at that point to mention that he's responsible for the menace known as Soulless Sam.
@janematthews3394
@janematthews3394 Год назад
@@Da1337Man If Cas had no idea he brought Sam back soulless why didn't he answer Sam's prayers? Why did he leave him alone in the field?
@Da1337Man
@Da1337Man Год назад
@@janematthews3394 He said it in this very episode that he (Cas) should have known right away that something wasn't right with Sam the moment he walked away from Dean so coldly under that street light, but he just... didn't. And then there was that kid who sold his soul to Balthazar, Cas had to inflict traumatizing pain to the poor boy before he could say for sure that his soul was missing. So he is definitely not lying in saying that he had no idea. As to why he didn't answer Sam's prayers, no one knows for sure.

This season has played out very differently than the previous seasons, that’s for sure. Usually we know the main plot of the season from the get go and we get little nuggets of information in each episode leading up to the finale, but this season seemingly saves the main plot until this episode.. like, made us wait until nearly the end of the season before telling us where the heck it was going.. I think this is why this season isn’t very popular amongst fans.. the next season, season 7, is one that I heavily disliked the first time I watched it, but have grown to like more and more every time I rewatch it. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to it! ☺️

I adore this episode to bits, even though it also frustrates me to no end. The format of the episode is interesting, and getting Cas' perspective, and seeing what he and Crowley have been up to, is a much needed payoff to a season that has seemed very unfocused. Cas and Crowley's interactions are absolutely golden, the actors have a great chemistry, and the characters' very different personalities plays off well against each other. The emotional rift between Cas and the others, particularly Dean, is really heartbreaking. It's very tragic that what leads Cas to initially work with Crowley, which seems to be what hurts Dean the most about this, is his desire to not disturb Dean's happy ending with Lisa and Ben. What's so frustrating for me is that: 1) They all worked with Crowley last season. The got the Colt from him. He helped Dean locate Death. Bobby literally made a demon-deal, kiss and everything, with Crowley. Now they talk as if OBVIOUSLY you don't "make another deal with the devil". "We'll do what we always do"; what, like working with demons to save the world, and making deals with them to save who you love? 2) They spent the entire last season looking for a way to stop the archangels Michael and Lucifer from destroying the world in a pissing contest. They, presumably, searched everywhere for any hint of every possible solution that didn't involve Sam saying yes to the Devil and crossing his fingers that he could beat a celestial being in a mind battle? They all bet on Sam being able to control the vast and mighty force of an archangel, because there was no other choice; and it only barely worked, and you can't pull that trick twice. Now Cas is trying to stop Raphael, an archangel, from restarting the Apocalypse, releasing Michael and Lucifer again. Cas goes so far as to change the past to generate souls to stop Raphael, but stops when it puts the brothers in danger. He tries the newly available Weapons of Heaven that Balthazar stole. And it's not enough. There is only this desperate plan; that Cas can take in the souls of Purgatory and control them, and use the power gained to beat Raphael. But they act as if, had Cas only confined in them, they would have obviously found another way. Sorry, what "other way" do you have tucket up your sleeve? Where is there even possibilities for another way that you didn't check out before Sam said yes to the literal Devil? How are you acting like it's still possible to find another way, when you don't even seem to get how unlikely it is that Cas has survived rebelling so far? He should just wait around for Raphael to win and kill him while you search for this theoretical "other way" you just decided out of nothing must surely exist? I'm all for characters pushing to find better ways than the most immediate safe options with collateral, but this is beyond reason. And I'm so sad Bobby is a part of that, because I generally love him for having more than a single braincell among idiots. I'd honestly find it fair if the brothers said "we'd rather have the Apocalypse happening than risk whatever is in Purgatory", because those are the options on the table. Either put something else on there, at least a plan for how to realistically buy more time, or pick one boys.
