Ive wanted to try the Supernatural forever and I recently discovered the drippability of the Verbzilla, but how do they compare and do they hold up against modern alternatives?
If you shop for these pedals please use my Reverb and Ebay affiliate links bellow, THANKS!

Nice to see the Supernatural still making the rounds with players! I still have a couple; one prototype that doesn't quite have the decay we wanted in Shimmer mode. This was a PGS exclusive and Aaron Miller and Digitech are sadly no longer around but they left a huge mark on the industry. BTW, the secret to max drip is to crank the liveliness.

I worked for Pro Guitar Shop in 2012 when the Supernatural came out. The processor was so good that DigiTech actually based the PGS collab pedal Velvet Reverb on it. In fact DigiTech created some really cool software that allowed pedal manufacturers to create custom reverb tones using the pedal as a platform. Edit: I believe it was the Made in USA Hardwire version that PGS sold.

For what it’s worth: the Octo setting has a LOT more control than was shown here. The decay knob acts as a high/low octave blend and the time knob is the decay.

I can vouch for the Supernatural. Great sounding verb and great buffers if you need long cables to the amps on stage. I still use it in my small board. The plate settings are my favorite but the spring sounds are really good too. The spacey modern verbs sound better than most . I've hit it with HUGE pre-amp boosts and it hangs right in there with lots of headroom. Made in Sandy Utah, USA.

got my supernatural when PGS was selling them and love it, I live for that ambient soundscape and like to use the shimmer but turn the mix knob with my foot to adjust it on the fly. 100% wet with swells into it is an amazing experience. the lexicon algorithm is so worth it. Only thing that tempts me to replace it is the Chase Bliss CXM 1978. cause again, Lexicon algorithms.

The FRV1 is still a great standard for spring emulation IMO. Not for the drip, but for the very authentic inherent tone it imparts in the highs. It has a bounciness to it. It's crazy how much it sounds like my 6g15 minus a great drip - although it's definitely usable.

I have both and the major difference is that Supernatural goes fully wet. But if that’s not the sound your going for then the Polara has you covered. Of course supernatural has the flanged reverb and the Flerb / Polara has reverse. Can’t go wrong with either. No need for both 😬😬
@benwebb7698
@benwebb7698 3 года назад
The Polara is more akin to the RV-7 from the digitech Hardwire series. I have read its almost a direct port with 1 algorithm change. Polara has Halo (shimmer) where as the RV-7 has Gated. E: fixed a bit of wrong info.
@chaledal-kadri9978
@chaledal-kadri9978 3 года назад
Interesting discussion. If it's really a 1:1 port, then there is no need for these high prices for the Supernatural. The only thing I don't understand is that the Polara (which I have) doesn't go 100% wet. Wouldn't be more expensive if they had made it 100% wet. But would have given the users more flexibility, especially when used in a send/return of a mixer, or for ambient stuff.

@Christine Ikeda I'm not sure what's going on here. He is and everyone else are totally entitled to do what they like with their stuff. I admit that I missed the bit when he actually did stack the reverb. It's always a treat to me when he does stack multiple pedals of similar effect and purpose. It's the same kind of curiosity I have, the same thing I would do in a similar situation. Who knows what will happen? Inspiration can be found by exploring the unknown. Just like the damaged speaker cone sound became its own thing. The Vox AC30 was developed by a guy who was hard of hearing. The solid body guitar was created when Les Paul was trying something new and seeing what was possible. There's absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever when Ryan stacks pedals. It's just fun to watch because I want to see what happens, and every single time that I cringe at the result I also accept that someone might find some use out of that. To each their own, and godspeed.
@jefferson4245

@Christine Ikeda I'm sorry if you felt that I was attacking you. My comment was erroneous and not directed at you or anyone else. I made it without ever seeing that you had previously remarked on the fact that he did stack them. I lacked the context to understand where your grievance was coming from, which I see now, and I apologize. Your comment was insightful, wholly deserving to be here, and one with which I actually agree having gone back and watched the part I missed. In a community such as the guitarists', where getting better at our sound and playing is our entire purpose, I never want to be someone whose actions and comments detract from another's pursuit of guitar and happiness.

@Christine Ikeda it's cool. You still stuck up for yourself. I respect that, even though it caught me off guard. Ryan stacking pedals is part of why I like this channel, and I got excited when I thought he hadn't. What's your favorite thing about guitar?
@jefferson4245
@jefferson4245 3 года назад
@Christine Ikeda You should totally design and market a pedal called Dark Reverb that does just that! I thought about it all day, and I think what I like about guitar is that it is a kind of people's instrument in that it is widely available and can be suited to anyone's abilities, talents, emotions. It doesn't require finesse and mastery to be appreciated or deliver the intended message. Coming from a brass instrument background, I love that I can sing along with the instrument in my hands. Songs for any mood, audience, or personal pleasure. I think there's a reason we don't see many "folk French hornists", or folk trumpet models for sale in the marketplace. The guitar is ultimately much more empowering, and a great outlet for people like me with diverse tastes and no shortage of strong, earnest emotions.

Turn up the Liveliness and turn down the Decay on the Supernatural and it'll drip more.

The used gear market is ridiculous atm. It used to be cheaper to buy 2nd hand now it's cheaper to buy new. Bizarre.
