Hey remarkable team, I know you're secretly reading this. Take a look and learn. Maybe it's time to get rid of your arrogance and discover how you can be more user-friendly just like ratta did.
Seeing some really smart choices here. The user serviceable battery was already something that made me very happy, and the design of that cover... the magnets aren't overlapping any part of the screen, which is awesome. The device is symmetrical so you can orient it however you want. I might not wait for the A5x2. This could be rotated to landscape to have a wider writing surface and the form factor of the device won't get in the way.
The removable back made me think about customization options here. If you could fit in a thin sheet of paper the options are endless! You could print any image, color or art work and really make the device your own
RAM. Really glad to see the boost in RAM (I think they could double it again, personally). It's a cheap improvement (internal space dependent, I'm sure) but it certainly improves the user experience. It's one of my chief complaints of so many devices. They should over compensate, then double it again. :)
Was looking forward to you posting this. Got mine yesterday. Loving everything about it. Currently Syncing between my A5X and A6X2 perfectly. I understand that they will automatically sync after the update to the A5X but for now what I did was to Sync my A5X with all the latest stuff. Turned it off and turned on the A6X2 and went through the start up, updated then Sync'd to my account. Low and behold everything sync'd over perfectly. My hightlights, my notes, my links, my documents, and templates This works perfect for me. Someone on Reddit said that if they "wait" between syncing the two it works as well! Anyway, thanks for all you do and appreciate your videos. Correction: When syncing something created from the NEW A6X2 back to the A5X the A5X says that particular file was created on a newer software version and can't be completed until the A5X software is updated. But I CAN create something on the A5X and sync it to the A6X2 because it is a file from the older software going to the newer software.
I have to admit: once the blue covers are in-stock again, I'll be ordering the A6X2. The color eInk devices by Boox didn't work for me. But a 300 PPI SuperNote... I'm willing to take the plunge and upgrade my A5X. Assuming sync'ing between devices works well, I'm happy to pick up an A6X2 now, and an A5X2 (or A4X) when available. This looks like a smart Gen2 from SN. I still would really love some better shape tools and the ability to snap lines to grids (when using graph paper templates)!
I am afraid i am going to need something with colour and with some more features for school. But lord... HOW AWESOME IS THIS!!!!! I am in love, the whole supernote concept is just so sympathic. Thanks for the great videos, and also for taking the time for such detailed impressions, your opinion and reviews have helped me a lot to gain some perspective. Greetings from Estonia and keep onthe great work, it is much appreciated :))
Was looking forward to this video! The fact that latency and typing experience have improved does give me high hopes. The primary issue that has been keeping me from purchasing the Supernote is the experience as a typewriter with an external keyboard. If you can test this in your in-depth review that'd be very much appreciated. Thank you for your hard work!
@@barbarajloriordan2697 Thank you for your response. So you would say it has improved compared to Voja's old review of the Supernote's typing experience? I've been especially worried about the bugginess of it. It's hard to tell if it has improved as opinions are mixed. I suppose everyone has their own idea of smooth/slow/unusable!
@@PokePiku So today I hooked up my Logitech “Keys-To-Go” and started typing a Word Document on my Supernote. It was able to type a full page with only one or two mistakes, and I was able to use the keys on the keyboard to correct the mistakes. This Logitech device is a very simple portable one, and, while it does the job, its keys do not move as easily as they do on other keyboards. So, typing with this keyboard is in itself slower than typing on other keyboards. At first, there was a tiny bit of a lag between typing the letters and seeing them appear on the screen. Later, as I gained confidence, I found that I was able to type more quickly and the display could keep up with it. I had turned off the Bluetooth capability on my Supernote. The connection with Keys-To-Go persisted even after I turned the Bluetooth off and then on again. It took a few tries to for the Supernote to respond to the keystrokes, but once it was able to respond, the typing and display were steady throughout the experience. Does this help you in making your decision?
Phenomenal video as always, Voja! I've never been so intrigued by any e-ink device, nor have I ever (growing up mostly in the era of planned obsolescence) realized how much I crave a device that gives users so much access. It was implicit in your video, but I think the world needs to know about Ratta because they are the type of company this world needs. Bravo to you, and bravo to Ratta. I do have one request for your testing, if you're willing to take requests. With the highlighting features introduced earlier this year, I often had trouble with the responsiveness when highlighting two-column academic papers. On very text-heavy pages (so two column, A4-formatted, small text, etc.), I found that the highlight itself would drag behind my pen, sometimes by 3 or 4 seconds. It was my only major issue with my A5X. I have since sold the A5X out of financial necessity, otherwise I would simply submit feedback to Ratta. I fully plan to buy the A5X2 when it comes out and would just love to know if this fundamental issue is addressed at all by the (modestly) upgraded hardware! Thanks again :)
The crystal backing. I wonder if that is less likely to get stained and "discolored" over time. I'm not a huge fan of white devices. I've never owned one, but the old ones I have seen always look so janky with the strains and marring. I will probably choose this option (crystal backing).
Normally they don't get stained, as they spend the majority of the time in the flip book cover. But I really like the Crystal version because it just looks really cool :D
Thank you for your considered a detailed approach to testing these devices. Especially measuring success against the design intentions of each manufacturer.
I pre ordered mine and Im waiting on it being shipped but is my first E-Ink and i haven’t found info on the battery life. I have a kindle and it lasts forever. What about this one? Thanks for the video and happy holidays from Puerto Rico!
As always, supurb job! I've been watching your channel for a while. I have mine on order (the white one). I couldn't afford the awesome HOM stylus yet, so I ordered the Push-Up standard pen. It seems like they were trying to replicate q recular retractable pen which sldoes have a little jiggle sound. That eill be fine for me until I can splurge on the HOM. Getting back to replaceable batteries was a huge thing for me. I wouldn't be surprised if they have different backs for each in the future. And from what I've seen in their videos and your everything looks modular (I even saw a video with them taking the battery out). I also wouldn't be surprized if they made RAM, CPU/motherboard, internal storage, etc. upgrades in the future that you could putchase instead of a whole new device. That would be awesome to see.
I don’t know where or how you diverted from their walk through of the gestures and tools etc. BUT mine did show me what the left hand side bar handles and the gestures for what. Like the two finger erase.
Great video. Finally made the decision to buy it as I was also contemplating buying Boox Note Air 3C. I had decided that less is more since I already have all sizes of Apple iPad and Kindle Scribe.
Thanks for a great video as always. I have seen on other A6X2 unboxing videos that the functions of the left slider bar do appear in the start up. It's strange it didn't appear on yours.
It appeared for me as well afterwards, when I first touch and held on the opposite stripe, and then the guide was there. But yeah. It's good that I was documenting this, so that Ratta team can compare and maybe troubleshoot the problem, and make it more reliable :)
Great video, I'm glad you didn't write with that screwdriver! I love this new approach by Ratta and am glad they have embraced the new marketing. I hope they bring this forward with the new A4 Slim next year. For now, I will stick with my A5X, but see a really bright future. I can't wait for your full review and to see how it feels to write on it with such a small screen.
Small thing, but I'm really pleased that the pen loop is stitched on to the inner surface of the cover. I can't stand them, and this means that I can remove it easily.
Is this device capable of doing a split screen? ( I like to write, while I read.) While I know that reading on this device is secondary and that it lacks a front light, has the reading experience been improved since the previous versions? I hope you will cover those issues on your in-depth video. I always appreciate your thoroughness and quality insights.
So happy I chose Supernote over Remarkable!!! After using both you realize the Supernote software is sooooo much better and workflow is so easy. Very difficult to manage the Remarkable. Thank you MyDG!
Omg I love the company! Even in their website they are promising an open source linux based system with community support! 😭 what company ever do that!!!?? All of them always sticks to the factory semi-cooked android base.
X2 platform will be dual OS, so later on there will be an option to install the Linux version of the OS as well on these devices, as they support dual boot.
"Voja, nooooo!!" - me to my computer around 55:26 😱😂 Thank you, as always, for your thorough testing and filming. I am really, really impressed with those magnets. I didn't expect them to hold so well! Ratta, I'm so sorry I doubted you. ❤ Also, I'm excited to start 2024 with MDO! Wishing you all the good luck and happiness you very much deserve. x
Thank you Voja. This will be, I think, the device that makes me take the plunge into e-ink. One question; a main use that I would want for the A4 version is for sheet music. In particular, being a sax player, I would need to use it with a bluetooth foot pedal. Do you know if this, or any other device has software or hardware support for that case? How does the e-ink landscape look relative to using an iPad for musicians?
This is a great video. Glad to hear Voja's enthusiasm! This looks easier than cracking open a laptop or tablet! Do we know when to expect the A5X2? I am thinking the A6X2 is one for me, while keeping a short list of possibles [Boox Note Air3 or Tab Ultra, Bigme something something etc]. I have to act soon for delivery late January while a family member is in the US.
watching this review is too painful. I want this so badly but cannot justify the purchase as my A5x is still excellent. I wish they were offering the discount for current x users 😭
I want this device so bad, but I need to try writing on it before buy. I currently write on steno pads with a ball point pen so there is a "cushion" feel when I write. I would hate writing on a hard surface. It's nice to have paper texture, but does it have some softness or cushion? I'm the kind of person that would buy the "deluxe" whole package, but I don't think I could take the disappointment if, in the end, the writing experience was not what I was expecting.
I don't think that I would characterize it as cushion-like, definitely not with the ceramic nib pen. A soft felt nib pen will get you.much closer to such a feeling.
Thank you very much! Your reviews are invaluable and I will continue to follow your AX6 2 videos. I still have so much to learn. I looked on the Ratta shopping website and I don't see a high quality pen (like the heart of metal) with the softer felt nib option. I am also reading that softer nibs need replaced very frequently. It's all a little unclear to me still. A Redditor said that the self recovery material is a tiny bit soft. So that's confusing... It still boils down to wishing I could try it for myself. I wonder if stores would have a display model I could touch and feel. I'm giving myself about 6 months before I decide to drop real money on this.
@@kclifton2011 I am sceptical to whether you will ever find what you need in eink tablets in general. By design they will have a pretty hard surface. Even with the "soft" nibs, it's still plastic if you know what I mean.
I counted the screws wrong 😁 initially I though there were 14 screws (7 on each side) and then I saw that there were 4 more (2 around each magnet) and I mistakenly kept referring to the total count of screws as 21, instead of 18, which is the correct number 😁
The removable back. This implies that they may continue updating the software years after the official support lifecycle has ended? Sorta a soft support policy? Otherwise, why make the battery replaceable? The initial battery should be adequate for the 2 to 4 years the device is supported by the company. Right? I suppose it reduces repair costs for them, and that's certainly a good thing. Anyway. I'm curious about this decision. Certainly makes it more future hackable (in a good way) for all the tinkerers out there. I can see a community being fostered around that, perhaps.
Battery must be replacable in eu by 2025 anyway, that's probably at least part of the explanation. But I agree that having the brains of the thing be swappable leans in that direction. Alternatively, it could be to make it simple to release new versions with more ram/new cpu/etc. Or they could just upgrade the screen and keep everything else the same. Exciting stuff!
They're also a very sustainable company. They've clearly stated the only reason for this update is due to the components of the originals isn't available to be sourced anymore. They've been solid at making products that last - and when the product has had flaws, they've gone above and beyond to make-good.
FYI ... I am still using Li-Ion battery packs on my Psion NetBooks (EPOC OS), that are around TWENTY (20) years old! All the throw-away and upgrade hardware every five minutes = HORRIBLE and NONSENSE (in so many ways). My epic love for SIBO and especially EPOC (EPOC32) Psion OS devices is, to this day, unparalleled. Approaching 25 years ... OMG! since arguably the height of their popularity and (unfortunately near enough same timespan of peak of EPOC32 OS development tweaks) - yet I still love the UNCHANGING familiarity of using the epic SOOC EPOC software on NetBook / Series 7 / Series 5mx n Ericsson MC218 devices. NOTHING has come close to these very personal, (yes, partly nostalgia heavy too!) feelings for me ... until I became an earlier adopter of the wonderful Rata Supernote A5X. Believe me ... that was/is a bloody hard thing for Rata to have achieved. TRUST in how the software (OS) evolves ... yet remaining sort of logically 'the same' too!? Knowing where to find stuff. Keeping a logic to how you do things in menus, toolbars or whatever. Kudos to both Rata and to Voja of My Deep Guide - for continuing to be an essential combo for me over the last few years! Incidentally - I still passionately believe that as Ratta continues their excellent (mostly software) and hardware journey ... they would be more than wise, should they scrutinise (at the most geeky of levels) that last, final EPOC OS 4.50 (NB_450UK.IMG) on the larger matt screen of the NetBook. Not just what Psion achieved with SOOC at this last development point ... but how perfectly intuitive AND integrated / dovetailed with this embedded software, menus etc, all the varied and quite fantastic 3rd-party software (freeware and shareware) that was available upto c.1999 ... and even for a few years after that in the 00s even. OH (very) HAPPY DAYS :)
What if you put the clear back down first and inserted the button cover and magnets onto that and then placed the rest of the SN on top and flipped it?
Probably could work, but this method ended up working fine for me. I have a fingerprint to wipe off the battery, so I'll try your suggestion next time :)
Really excited about this, thank you for filming it so quickly! One request - for your full review, could you please show how the MDO scales on the A6X2, including when writing on it without having zoomed in? I watched one of your other videos where you compared the MDO across different tablets, and although it was clear how it looked on the A5X compared to the A6X, I found it hard to understand whether the lines are too close together on the A6X to write on it properly without having to zoom. Using the MDO on the A6X2 would be a huge selling point for me to get the device, so I’d really appreciate it if you could show this.
Sure, I'll do that, but you can simply use it in the landscape format on the A6X2, or the A6X2, and then you'll get pretty much the same physical spacing god lines as on the A5X in portrait mode.
@@MyDeepGuide Thank you :). Yes you mentioned and showed this in that other video too, but I was asking because I find it important to see the whole week at a single glance without having to switch when I’d like to add some notes. Otherwise I’d go for the A5X, but portability matters for my use case as well. Either way I really appreciate your videos as they make this decision process a lot easier!
How do the writing capabilities of this compare to any of the 2-in-1 laptops currently available? For those that don't care as much about the E-Ink feature, but want an excellent writing tool? I can't find any of your videos comparing computers to e-ink tablets?
Is it? I was trying ro find that info, but so far I haven't found it yet. Can you give me a reference that specifies that the screen has a glass cover?
Love the unboxing! I have a question about the crystal version. Do you notice fingerprints being an issue for the back? It looks like it could leave some more than the other mattes white version
@@MyDeepGuide really cool, that was one thing I likes about kindle scribe, rotating screen plus their original folio worked both ways, remarkable on the other hand is primarily righthanded.
Hi, is it comfortable thickness to write on it? I have BOOX note air and tab ultra, and it is not comfortable to write on tab ultra (could be because of camera), how about new super note, or should I wait for the slim version?
Hi! Thank you for your video. Question... do any organizational templates or calendar remplates come pre-installed? Also, can we customize the sleep screen and/or the off screen?
There are a number of single page templates, you should look at videos or reviews of the X series for into on those right now since they have the same templates
Amazing!! I love this show. And This device is shining with comsumer interest My heart fell when you attempted screw-writing But I am overwhelmed with the amount of details ALL amazing notes on how to design and build And, last but not least I commend Voya for noticing and noting how supernote is stepping up their game without following the leader, but taking half the camp in maybe better direction.
NA3C and Kindle Scribe are better than the RM2, so those would be the comparison points, not RM2. As for the writing experience, I need to spend more time with it. It feels very good, but there is an element of hardness and slipperiness that I didn't expect and is different than other devices, so I want to give it a fair go, and test with different pens and nibs, to be able to get a more objective perspective. It's very good, and unique. I just have to see how I would properly describe that uniqueness.
Here's how I heard. One person describe it: Remarkable 2 is like writing with pencil, SN is like writing with ballpoint pen. That's why SN feels more like "an element of hardness and slipperiness."
@@peterphan227 sounds like SN easier to write on? As a lefty i hated writing with pencil, but find it decent with the RM2. At least there are no smudges! I wonder if the SN will feel even better.
One of your other videos showed the A6X as 7th in friction. With more friction than most and more than the BOOX Note. Which was excellent for writing. Wondering where the new A6X2 falls in comparison to either.
Yes, but that is a strange result and I suspect that it is due to the "stickiness" aspect of the regular felt tips on the FW1 surface. With a ceramic tip, it would have a different result, but unfortunately, I don't have a way of running that test with a ceramic nib, as those are not removable, like the felt tip nibs are.

Dear Voja, I habe been watching your's and your colleagues' videos a lot, because I would like to purchase an e-ink device. However before I make a decision I usually try to contact customer service, then I know how quickly they will respond in case I have a problem. Now everybody is praising supernote's willingness to listen to customers and make adjustments accordingly. Great! But how ist that the address on there website is a virtual address and not a real one? How do you communicate with them and is it not worrysome to purchase and send money to a company that is so vague? It certainly worries me!
@@MyDeepGuide Well there are 27 ish companies at this address couldn't find Ratta? Same at the address in France. Just lot's of letter boxes in a small a little run down industrial estate. Just seems strange. I must admit though I did get answers to my questions from them fairly quick in the chat and I love the look of this supernote, .... but it is kind of putting me off. Have you ever heard of problems with their Customer Service? I mean if you want to return, exchange or have a problem with the device?
I personally haven't had any issues, but this seems like you have some very specific insecurities, and I don't think anyone here can actually help you if you have suspicions of that sort. It sounds like issues that you'll need to find a way on your own how to overcome them, best of luck.
Is the Supernote’s A6x2 screen on the list of screen texture ratings yet? Bc I am confused by others saying the screen is glossy and hard? Noice vid as well.
Can you point me to "others" that say that, because I didn't really notice that? I can definitely tell you that it's not shiny (you can see that in the video when I compare the two), and hardness, well, compared to what? Definitely softer than any glass display, but the FW2 does give a firmer feel than the FW1.
@@MyDeepGuide I saw it in the Supernote facebook group, and a few YT videos. That I can’t recall right now due to the amount of videos I watch every day. If I come across the opinion again. I will return and point to them out.
How long did it take for you all to get yours? Is there a shipping delay? I haven't received confirmation of shipping at all and I ordered over a week and a half ago
Before I whine and nitpick, I want to say this is a really impressive device. :) Wish they had dual loops for the pen. No one does that though, for some reason. I usually add my own to the notebooks I own. Faux leather ... not very environmentally friendly (leather composts, faux lives forever, effectively), but whatever, it's an electronic device. It's a rounding error jr grand scheme of things. Anyway. Looks like a great update to their line. I'm waiting for the A5, maybe even the A4, but man, if I could justify the expense, I'd buy the A6 to complement. Impressive device.
No Google Play store, and no apps, other than those distributed by the Supernote themselves. This means that right now, you have Kindle and Atelier as 2 apps that can be installed and used on the Supernote.
@@DeLiteFullyFun it is possible and there are guides on Reddit but the results depend on how much an app needs the screen to refresh...it's not optimised for most apps like the newer Boox devices are
If only this device and others like it had a camera. It would make it so much more useful. Take a picture and mark it up or scan a doc. There are many cases where this would be extremely useful.
