From your mouth/keyboard to his ears/eyes! 🤩😉 I’m sure Tom would LOVE to fly one of those Gravity suits (and I’m sure I’d love to film 🎥 it!) Plus, with deep fake technology having become so good, he’d be able to play the character at different points in the colonel’s life 😲🤯👍👍💓💓💓

Me too! And I was able to use him as the embodiment of one of my all-time favourite characters from fiction, Raymond Chandler’s Detective 🕵️‍♂️ Philip Marlowe 🤗👍📖 I had so much fun writing that, so I feel a debt of gratitude to the colonel! (Who are your favourite characters, btw?) 😲💘

Just like in the novels. I finally got free time to read Superhuman. About 200 pages in, I realized I wanted to go back and read the series from the start again.

The only problem with TC in any of this material is that David may have to capitulate creative control over the source material when you have an actor of that caliber signed-on to a project. I think Willem Dafoe would be masterful portraying a character as complicated as the Colonel.

Oh, I agree! Dafoe would be excellent casting (and I love how deep fake tech makes these casting choices possible now! What a way to reinvigorate a career!) Tom would be great, but he’d have to trust me…I may need to work harder to earn it though! I’m pretty sure Cruise had zero control with Kubrick on Eyes Wide Shut (Kubrick would never have compromised) but, although the movie was brilliant, it was one of Cruise’s rare box office missteps. Even David Fincher, who was tapped to make Mission Impossible III way back when, went another way eventually (I imagine because Cruise wanted ultimate creative control). Cruise is incredible as a producer (it almost seems like he should be a director himself) but creative control is something I would, and honestly could never relinquish, no matter the level of talent who asked me to do it. 😊👍

My other nominees for Colonel Paine would be Dolph Lundgren which has the build and Sean Bean who's got very good charisma. I don't know why, I don't see Tom Cruise as the (sort of) antagonist.

You’ve got a casting director’s eye, no doubt! Both of those actors have a lot of the qualities of an excellent Colonel Paine 👍 I hadn’t considered Tom Cruise either, but the flight suit being so workable already made me consider which actors might actually want to wear it! Speaking of Tom as antagonist, have you seen Collateral? He’s excellent in it… it may give you that “Paine” vibe. I also quite like Timothy Olyphant, who is so extraordinarily dark when he wants to be. It’s amazing what some (but by no means all) actors can generate with their eyes. Chilling!

I’d seen him on that Savage Builds episode but seeing the Gravity suit move from being an amazing tech start up (which is super cool enough) to actually be deployable on missions like this (even if just a demo so far) is mind boggling! And there really is a scene in Superhuman that looks eerily similar…

Hey David! Awesome and eye-popping video! The next gen of narrow AI military combat robots/drones has been and is under development already. This flight suit shows how much technology and futurist thinking is going into commercial/military use. But in my opinion, like in the world of your fantastic and plausibly real (in the "far off") novels, the next major step in human evolution will be because of a melding of technology such as nanobots and not because of "natural" species evolution. Forget winter...The Singularity is coming! lol! Sidenote: I hope things are going well with you in the health arena, but you are looking much better. Take care!

Abe! Good to see you! I’ve been feeling better, absolutely! I’ve had rough days, but they’ve never turned into two rough ones in a row, and I’m getting closer every day to fully un-impinging those shoulders, which will be a huge help! My plan is to get back to 💯 percent health again! Nothing less is acceptable 😎🤩 Agreed! Melding is on the way! And seeing those flying soldier maneuvers by the UK 🇬🇧 Navy is surreal, isn’t it? Wow 🤯 It’s so strange to imagine something so vividly and then to watch it play out in front of you for real 😮 Incredible! I hope you’re doing great too, Abe? 🤗🤗🤗

Right? 😎 And he’s in such good shape that he could actually sell that he’s “young” when he moves...a little deep fake (luckily, he’s the biggest movie star in the world so there’s tons of perfect footage of him from about 17 right up to 58 to train the deep fake AI) and voila! You’ve got another iconic and one heck of an attention grabbing 😲😎🚀 Tom Cruise role! (We might just have to wait for him to get back from filming that movie in space!) 😂

That’s terrific! I’m glad Tom Cruise has the approval of the tribe! I hadn’t thought too seriously about him that part before, since he’s usually the unquestioned lead in his films, and Paine is sometimes an antagonist, sometimes the lead, sometimes a supporting character, depending on the book (and universe, haha). But the notion of flying the Gravity suit for real in those scenes might just be enough to intrigue him!

Thank you!! I’m so glad you saw it…what incredible footage ☺️ They’ve been flying for a few years now (since late 2016,) but that Iron Man suit flight didn’t blow me away as much as seeing the suit’s deployed (albeit as a test) in the UK 🇬🇧 Navy! 😮
