was missing to show the installed avionics ... the performance is incredible but a good set of navigation equipment for this type of aircraft is very important!

No you can't, maybe an old one with run out engine and suspect fabric. Plus you are at the mercy of IA annuals and certified parts$$$$.

I only learned about Zenith STOL airplanes recently, and the videos I saw were indeed very impressive. Just curious though... what kind of engine would one have in a $30K Zenith??? I know it can't be the Rotax 915iS engine that I drool over, because that engine alone costs more than $30K. To be sure, the Zenith looks rather lightweight, so the only justification for a 915iS would be high altitude landings... which is a good justification for some, but certainly not everyone.

30 to 40? I don't think so even doing all the building yourself. The dash instruments and engine will be more. Besides you don't have to Build this plane it comes ready to fly. Look at used Zenith and or other Kitfoxes that are ready to go, ALL over 100 thousand and I mean way over.

$175,000... for an experimental, amateur-built, 2-seat, rag and tube airplane. It has all the practicality of a motorcycle. Sorry folks, that’s just nutty pricing. Can have just as much fun for a LOT less money. Or if you’re gonna drop that kind of cash? Used Carbon Cub has much nicer fit and finish on the factory parts (frame tubing, welds, etc).

It was built in the Factory by professionals, the new price of $155,000 is $100,000 less than the Carbon Cub I was looking at when I purchased this plane. I bought the SS XL because it will out perform the Carbon Cub all day long for much less money.

..i checked out the Just Aircraft display at Oshkosh and the fit and finish is on par with CCub or any of its peers...175k is pricey but given the way the OP has it set up isn't out of line..as with any product as production increases price drops....you want this kind of performance take out your check book bud

@@sanantonio855 You are comparing apples to golf balls. I can land a JA Highlander or SuperSTOL at the house and stuff it in the shed after a day of off airport fun. My SR20 is great for going somewhere, as long as it ain’t a cow pasture or a sand bar. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If I had the money I'd buy this thing in a NY second, but I have an old Infiniti I paid $24,000 for and it has 4 heated leather seats, 275hp, a Bose sound system, back up camera, electric windows, a/c and heat, 6 CD player and almost every other bell and whistle...for $24,000. Why are airplanes so damned expensive...wait, I already know the answer...it's the fucking lawyers who sue every manufacturer whenever some Johnny Jet puts his plane in the ground.

Planes are expensive since they are built in the hundreds not the thousands. Automobiles are throw away commodities unlike civilian aircraft. Check out the resale value of a PA18 Super Cub.

Yep planes are hand made... labour is expensive... RR are also hand made one off vehicles but they cost 1 million + But it is crazy... what you get for $100k is a rag and tube ultralight and looks like about 5k worth of materials.. There's alot of tech and engineering in a 50k car but they are mass produced at a lower price point.

175,000 Grand so I can fly around at 75 knots. This is the problem with general aviation today, the wealthy and I am happy for them, have created a false market for even used aircraft via selling to themselves at grossly inflated prices. It's not based on supply and demand because the, in the middle / middle man buyer can't even begin to make an offer. What is relatively cheap for one is out of sight for 10,000. One more example of the redistribution of wealth and the decline of the middle class ! Many ages ago, say 1990, business was done on a cost plus reasonable mark up (Old math 20-25% / the new math 200 -250%) this creates RAMPANT INFLATION with a socially closed system economy. In 1989 I bought a C-150 low tt/low tbo for 10 GRAND +3 for up graded technology and AD'S SOLD IT 5 yrs. later for $28,000 in the big city market, which was great but, I said then general aviation is baking up to the 1920's rich man's sport. It should not be this way !

Hey, Comrade! You do know communism is dead, right? These are KIT PLANES. You don't have to buy this one. You can build your own for a fraction of the price. Do you have any idea how much work goes into it? Clearly you don't. But you love spouting your Marxist blather while ignoring the MIDDLE CLASS people who got paid to build it. Not to mention the far-from-rich guy who owns the company. He is MIDDLE CLASS. Last, but not least: Are you suggesting the government should regulate the prices of luxury toys? Or just ban them altogether? I'm planning to build a Kit Fox with STOL capabilities, that will easily outperform your C-150 in every conceivable way, and it'll cost me perhaps $60,000 brand spanking new. Adjust that for inflation back to whatever "golden age" you want to pretend existed and you'll find out that amateur aviation is as cheap today as it ever was. And the technology is almost unbelievable.

500 hours to build this plane, easily, even with a very experienced builder. That engine alone cost them $30K. My best estimate is that, discounting the cost of the parts (most of which they made themselves.....AT COST, including labor), and then allowing for a 15% standard mark-up, they paid around $170 per hour for labor. That would include not only wages but also benefits and overhead. Do you know what a Union A&P mechanic makes? A lot, but this guy made MORE. Apparently you don't like the workers making good money. You prefer a socialist system in which the workers barely get by in order to enrich the elite and assure their position.

Last but not least: Whether or not this plane is worth $175K is up to the marketplace to decide. If you were selling it and someone offered you $175K you would take it and laugh. You would not say, "Oh, that's way too much. And besides, you're too rich. I want to find a poor person and sell it to him really cheap." You are a hypocrite. Private planes for recreational purposes are NOT a human right.

The Last Rebel Show you can’t build one for 30,000. The kit costs 30,000. You also need avionics, fabric, an engine. Your going to be spending around 90-100,000 and that is NOT with an engine with 180hp.

Daniel Willets I’m aware , that would only be if you were already a A&P and had all the tools and know how ,No the cheapest you could do it would probably be between 40 and 60 and yes to do it that cheap you would have to be a A&P have a;l the tools and know how and a place to do it. Oh I’m sure there is a ton of hidden costs too. $175,000 is Top Dollar however. I would By it today regardless if I could afford it. The most I could afford would be $40 to $50 and that puts me in a used Cessna 150- 172 or maybe a beat down kit fox or something. 😂👍
