Such a masterpiece!

Such a great song... another couple of Supertramp hidden gems: "A Soapbox Opera," "The Meaning,"... they're both brilliant songs. The title track off of CRIME is also great.

This is a powerhouse song. Best song on this album, and possibly Rick's best ST song in general. This is killer in concert.

Whole album is sheer class.

You can't even imagine how cool this song is when when Supertramp performed it live. A huge screen dropped down and showed a train from the front just barrelling down the tracks going through tunnels and the countryside going faster and faster. It was mesmerizing

Supertramp were ever present when i was a kid. Their later stuff was the pop-rock commercial stuff that made them a fortune but this early prog-rock stuff is far more interesting.

One of my favourite Supertramp songs. Sounds to me like a guy realising that life is passing him by and that love doesn't always come along if you just wait for it to happen. He fears it's too late for him. Beautiful but sad. It's a similar theme to 'Hide in your shell' from the same album, another epic ST song. Cheers.

My take is ; the first line of the song is "Rudys on a train to nowhere"....the last line of the song is "sad but in a while he'll soon be back on his train" which to me means his life is stuck in a loop and he's going nowhere (same as a lot of us I suppose!). Every song on that album … They gave their best on that album. Yes, clarinet. They use it a lot on that album. Not an instrument you hear a lot in rock, but it's such a beautiful sound. It's sort of a concept album about growing up.

Crime of the century album doesn't have a bad track in my opinion

Supertramp have made lots more catchy (hit) songs but Rudy is my favourite. Not only is the message heart wrenching (Cyhtia got it right: a young man dreaming his life away at the movies), but musically there are so many layers to the song that I never tire of hearing it. A beautiful, very cinematic song with a great build up. Thanks for a fine pick, guys! 👍

THE GREATEST BAND AND ALBUM

School and Crime of the Century are probably the two most well known songs from this album, but for me Asylum stands out due to the emotion that Rick Davies puts into the lyrics. It's a great song and worth a listen if you aren't familiar with it.

What sets Supertramp more or less apart from other big symphonic bands is that the piano plays an important part; in other bands it's mostly the keyboard.

I wasn't into them so much but they did have their moments.

Ace Album by Supertramp ! Have a Copy on Vynal the year it was released ! Is it me , or are the Records made back then a lot heavier ! You dont want to drop one on your foot ! Great Band , Time less , Cheers

This takes me back to my early childhood mid seventies Mum is a fan and i don't mind them myself 😮 ya can pick ya selfs off the floor now I'm serious not my go too but i can listen to them without getting annoyed and there's lots of music that ANNOYS ME i can't stay around music i don't like. it can be a problem but it's mine and I'm not letting it go 😊

Along with Genesis, Supertramp are my favourite band both groups have such variaty in their music. This is a brilliant album but they have made many one of their most underrated albums is famous last words. Logical song is good but a bit too commercial for me it's an album you're mum and dad would like.

Crime of the Century is a concept album and the story about Rudy. To get the full benefit, the album should be listened to in it' s entirety , not that listening to individual tracks isn't enjoyable.

Hah! This ohhhsumm* song had popped into my mind only yesterday! 😄 And I was asking myself if it's the same Rudy that The Specials sing about, in one of their songs!? 😁 (* = Kiwi for 'awesome' 😉😆)

Supertramp are great. Another lower-paced song that I really like ,one that i dont think has been treacted to on youtube is "Leave Right Now" by Will Young. Listen closely to the words. (Parkinson 2003 is a good live performance)

Seen Supertramp and thought yay .. which one of their mega hit songs is it gonna be ?…. Oh.. !..🤷‍♂️ Rudy..never heard of this ! I’m afraid I found it to be pish ! Sorry , I’m being honest . Who was doing the singing ? Was it the sound check engineer filling in for the proper lead singer who had forgotten to set his alarm that morning ? 😳cos it ain’t Roger Hodgson who is the definitive voice of Supertramp .. oh well .. sigh 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
