How would it work? If he is of the Al Nayan clan then he has sovereign immunity most probably because they are the ruling family of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, but would the yacht not have that and would the captain be liable I would imagine? So how would it work in prosecution for Maritime purposes? It’s an interesting one for sure. I think it will go down as a diplomatic incident. 1:39

4 year delay , can be from both sides . As you say , months/ years have gone into the build , before it starts . Lines are drawn etc . T&Cs apply . Get the basic deposit / full payment ? Surely structured . Balance on completion works for me . I work in mm in cabinetry , not an whole ship . Once orders are placed , job done ? Somewhat minor changes , entail many changes . Know your client . Factor in 'other costs' :-) Get deposit , deall accepted , changes will be costly . T&C s :-)
I can see that MY Skat is going down one of the channels in the Bahamas. It can be seen that She is doing about 5 kns and her props are pushing up sand. She is really pushing her luck. She draws 3.75m and the channels are about 4m and there is a small range of tide to consider. Lets hope she was running light on her marks and at low water or there could be some bottom polishes - and we all like a bit of bottom polishing but only in the right circumstances.

Interestingly Google maps ferry route goes straight through the prohibited area too :-)! Pretty sure UAE wouldn't mind paying a fine if they're guilty, on the other hand they can't be prosecuted if they've got diplomatic immunity anyway and any fine is going to be alot less than $100million. Depending on the paint used it may well come off pretty easily (Afterall lots of grafitti is washed off all the time) but still going to be hard to see how it's not vandalism. Corro does look good under sail!
beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. the additional upper decks make it real clumsy and awkward looking. the traditional big ship figure of galleon? what is this about? sort of a pseudo tea clipper? how many more radars do you need? hideous. where are the top sails above the gaffs? too scared that modern seamen can't climb up 🙂 ultimately a big design challenge. Here my recommendations for a rich client: either go really modern, like sailing yacht A (oh well, not my style either). go for real speed (French maxi tris....) or go for some beautiful J class retro. ok, or a Bluenose if you want more than one mast. I hope to see footage under a little more demanding conditions than Bft 2.

People get enthusiastic about why they love things or why they dislike things. They didn't seem to take any digs at the original commenter. Sort of like "I respectfully disagree, here's why." Although maybe they should have put that comment in the main section instead of the comment that inspired them to write it. I don't know, just thought I'd throw in my 2¢.

4:08 Opera went straight through the southern protected area on arrival, and straight through the northern protected area as it left. I'm surprised you only mention the minor infractions of the main vessel along the coast (+ the unknown infractions by jet skis) and not the bigger infractions shown here on the map. Unfortunately money talks, and wrapping a bath towel around your head and carrying suitcases full of cash lets you get away with any crime.

So it had to be cleaned to be operational since you're in the luxury service business. I hope they get toasted.
The sailing yacht is truly beautiful. The video was well done. Thanks for airing this. As for the positioning of the UAE yacht, I would personally caution the captain but I would not take further steps. Is this unfair? Perhaps but what is the national interest of Italy?
That's a straight up fine, no argument. The captain of the ship should have informed the owner of the limitations of this reserve. And they captain should face a fine or time in prison because he should have known . But we all know money talks and probably nothing will happen.
Loved the look of the sailing yacht, I noticed it was making about 1 knot, they then sailed under power, because they were making no progress .. but what a sight !!

You pronounce the name ”Kjell” as you pronounce ”Shell”. In fact it says that Kjell hundred of years ago meant helmet or ”kittel” which means cauldron. Sounds fair to me :-)
Despite Skat being a Norwegian designed boat and now purchased by a Norwegian, the name for it more likely meant 'Treasure' with all the other varied meanings in different languages being an intentional confusion and play on words.
I wonder if a down payment or just a commitment to purchase the yacht Aviva would qualify it as sold enough to keep it out of the governments hands in that case.

No 'specialists' required but sailing yachties as opposed to motor yacht yachties would be better, however the sailing on the modern flappy canvass yachts is largely automated. As for pay - flappy canvas sailors used to get less, but not sure now.
Skat means treasure in both Danish and in Norwegian. It means the same in Swedish, but is spelled with a double-T. Kjell is pronounced pretty much like "shell".
Question: for a ship that size, how difficult is it to stop at and ensure you stay of a forbidden zone? (depending on sinds et) does an anchor really make you stay at a procise spot? In this specific case, it was likely done on purpose to make the Italian PM uncomfortable because she technical has to fine the Sheik but also has to bg him for money or whatever other favour.
I have anchored in that bay several times in 50m yachts. Its quite deep at 45m with poor holding (rocky) and there is very little swinging room. If there is no wind or current a yacht will be held in place by the weight of the cable. Where there is wind and current, the yacht will straighten out the cable and swing in a figure 8 pattern through an arc of 90-120 degrees. This can be reduced by laying 2 anchors about 90-120 degrees apart. Then you go nowhere. Superyachts are very manoeuvrable and stop quickly - easy to control
This is entirely the responsibility of the Skipper, his senior crew members have not raised the risk of infringement with him. It should have been picked up during voyage planning.
I have to ask the obvious unanswered question. What is the listed penalty for crossing into the reserve? I mean are we talking a fine, prison, loss of boat, what? Has any boat ever crossed into the area before, if so what happened to that boat?
The main vessel did stroll into the out of bound zone, but not by much. You'd think a simple radio call would have alerted the Capt and crew. I am sure they meant no harm. This is not even a storm in a tea cup. In fact it will in some way serve as a warning to others, no one wants bad publicity. The Captain should be bollocked for sure. It is his job to navigate the yacht safely whilst complying with all the rules. The owner will more than likely have been unaware.
Thanks for the great closing footage but to nit pick, a gaff rigged schooner can't really be considered "under full Sail" unless she is carrying her topsails as well as jibs, mains etc. I think the schooner rig also allows a square sail flown between the masts but that is seldom seen.
There’s probably not many owners of these super yachts that don’t have an arrogance superiority and self entitlement to do what ever they like, that is why they should enforce the laws with the utmost vigour. 🇬🇧 Ps. The captain will just do what he’s told.

Isn’t life strange! The Italian government appears to be turning a blind eye to a ship owner violating government regulations. Meanwhile people are concerned about some activists throwing a few litres of paint on a mega yacht. This yacht, designed to accommodate 30 guests, will dump just over 1000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere when it uses its fuel capacity of 381,000 litres of diesel.
The billionaire being charged with Insider Trading, sold the yacht days before his indictment. Purely coincidence? Wonder if that’s going to be his defense in his trial, just a coincidence?
