We had to wait eight years for Beau Baker's inquest because it wouldn't have been good for the career of a cop to have his name in the newspaper. Then after waiting all that time, the recommendations of the inquest are stonily ignored. I was also looking for help when Beau Baker went to the emergency room of GRH a couple dozen times in a month. Neither of us have found it, yet.
It is upsetting to me that police get millions of dollars of funding specifically to treat the trauma they receive in the line of duty, when most of that trauma is vicarious; someone ELSE suffered the injuries that the police have been traumatized by witnessing. This special funding explicitly illustrates that the services available to those of us actually suffering the injuries are wildly insufficient. The police and all other members of state should be required to use the same mental health services as the rest of us -- except the wealthy -- are condemned to.
