I really enjoyed watching that video, especially has I could sense your excitement throughout. The unearthing of the unknown makes metal detecting such a fascinating hobby. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Excellent video; so very good to listen to someone that values the historical value and NOT monetary value. I detest these people that say “on to the next “ and look miserable when they find something they consider worthless. 👍
The brick work, pilgrimage artifacts and hammered coins might indicate a medieval religious house or order. One of your best outings and i like the talking narrative.
The person that didn’t sub because of you talking ! You don’t need ! Carry on doing what you do and watch your subscribers rise and rise 👍🍻p.s. love tasci
Absolutely blown away by your videos, amazing! Canadian detectorist here and metal detecting in England has been a dream of mine for years! Detecting in the cradle of civilization must be amazing. Roman, medieval all the way up to the 1800s as well as 2 world wars....unreal! Please keep putting out amazing videos that fuel the dreams of people like myself! Thank you.
Thanks Bent Rod Boys - much appreciated... I feel really lucky every time I go out that there is the prospect of finding something really good... definitely the pro side of detecting in Europe... hope all well and thanks for watching!
@@HolzHammerSagas one day I will detect in Europe! I have a group I detect with and we plan on doing a month long detecting/history lesson starting in England and making our way to wherever we can to swing and learn! Keep up the great work Sir, you have a loyal subscriber here in Maritime Canada!
Great video again! I don’t really understand why people wouldn’t subscribe because you talk too much. It makes me feel like I’m with you on the field, so I like it :)
Poor Tasci has done something to his ear and cant stop scratching it so its the Cone of Shame for him I'm afraid - he is sulking and looking very sorry for himself!!!
Many of us dont see this sort of material in the US, so we apprecaite you educating us on the coin markings! So fascinating! As for Tasci, maybe you could rig up a sort of "bone detector" for him so he'd find the occasional snack and not be underfoot. The pigeon chasing bit was hilarious, he's soi much fun to watch! Hoping for more in that wonderful field, my friend!
Thanks Dennis, much appreciated! Funnily enough im not sure a bone detector would work - he is the only dog i know who actually buries bones and anything interesting... i though that was only in comics! But anything nice I give him he either buries in the garden or i find it hidden inside blankets or a pile of clothes waiting to be washed days later... disgusting! Hope all well!
Wow three and a half hammered, papal bulla so many finds in the one video. Amazing to watch, keep talking your commentary is interesting and I'll never get tired of it. Tasci is a little treasure. HH ATB Jacqui.
Thanks Jacqui hope all well with you - the deus was running on all four cylinders that day - the cut half was such a sleek whisper i could hardly hear it... but it was there!
Yet another fantastic production - thank you so much for sharing your wonderful days out - it must take you hours and hours to produce a 20 minute video too, so thank you again and please do keep making them for us all to enjoy👏👍 By the way what a WOW that Papal Bulla was, absolutely stunning find.
Thanks bodgerpete much appreciated! They do take a bit of time but it’s good fun if you have the time! Have to wake up very early!!!! The bulla looks like it was made yesterday quite a heart stopper! Hope all well
20 minutes is nothing when you are pulling that stuff from the ground. Wow...what a great hunt! That Tas is such a pill. Mine chase the dove from the yard. These are foreign doves that are the size of pigeons. He will also stand at the drive and hop while barking at cars or people going by. Tasci and Jack would be major trouble together. Your taxi'd birds are beautiful. I know that parrot and smaller parrot have to be a particular kind.
Thanks fiberotter - much appreciated... I think tasci and jack would be off and we wouldn't see them for dust!!!! I love the birds... the parrot is an amazonian i think not sure but the little ones are bee- eaters... we get them in Southern Europe but more common in Africa - hope all well!
Such beautiful finds Ally we loved the papul buller ..and your excitement is infectious when finding a new treasure....I loved the sweet hammies that 😀 you find and a few of them mounted in a dark blue, green or crimson velvet lining inside aShadow box frame 💙 would look great on your HQ walls....My Croatal bell is still happily ringing !😆 Great video ..my next is of a bird I am sure you have somewhere mounted 😅blessings ,stay safe xxxShaz 🙏🍁🍂🦊🍂🍁
@@HolzHammerSagas Ally that was the Sweetest face of Tasci ,when he looked at you 😍 with such love, was he admiring your finds or waiting for a walk..Great video Ally xxxShaz ⚒🙏
Still playing catch-up with videos hope you are well. Thank you for showing the finds at the beginning I especially like the key. Never found a spindle whorl one day I hope. The pilgrims ampulla was a nice find well saved. And to find a papal bula in that condition is awesome. The hammered coin was in very good condition for sure as was that buckle really nice. Well done on your other hammered coins a good day for you for sure top hunt. Keep on the way you do your videos really enjoyed it. Until the next one take care stay safe. And thanks for the comment on my Medieval gold ring find. John
Alex, good work again. Your silver hammered strike rate is unbelievable. Don't mind the video 'over-running' the usual 15 mins as I could watch all night!! Even the lead finds are outstanding. ATB.
Thanks Trevor, much appreciated and thanks for the kind words! My hammered strike rate is extraordinary at the moment! I do put a bit of it down to practice - I definitely dig and hear things now i would never have dug a few years ago... hope all well!
another fantastic video Alex. everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't think you talk too much. it's just a different type of videos to others. you are very easy listening and interesting. just keep doing what you are doing. 👍
Great video that pottery piece at the end is a medieval floor tile from a monastic building or a fancy house . Together with the stone's there I'd say your on a unknown medieval site .👍
I’m a new subscriber, I really enjoyed the video, awesome finds Alexander, I look forward to watching more, thank you for taking the time to make them. 😉
Hi Alexander, what a brilliant video, so many amazing finds I loved the Papal Bulla, plus a lovely visit to your HQ, That looks a nice example of a male Eclectus parrot btw, best wishes to you Alex, and a pat for Tasci, and congratulations once again for the best detecting channel out there, Terry.
Thanks Terry thats a really nice thing to say! Good spot on the parrot hes quite a fine one I love my birds... I might switch headquarters next time to give you a look at my pride and joy!!!! Hope you are both well!
Another superb video what a hunt. I love the papal bulla. Mine is in with the flo at the moment it has been hit by the plough. I can't believe how complete yours is what a stunning find .......well done 👍
@@HolzHammerSagas Im very well Alexander thank you. I think it's Pope Martin I'm hoping the flo will confirm this. Keep the videos coming looking forward to the next instalment.
Your enthusiasm Is great entertainment, i haven't been out for a month or so due to cataract surgery, soon i will and take some of the afore mentioned with me! cheers.
Hi Robin - hope you recover from the surgery quickly - presumably you'll be able to see those fines much more clearly from now on! Thanks very much for watching and hope all well - Stay safe if you're in this wind this weekend!
Thanks Kim - much appreciated and good luck this weekend... i hope you have as much luck too.. i think i may have signed a pact with the devil in my sleep!!!! Hope all well!
Thanks Connor much appreciated - most of that is my collection but it is sort of all for sale too though I find the good stuff hard to sell! Hope all well and thanks for watching!
I remember when you took your first tentative steps into this great hobby, and now look how far you have come! Well deserved fella and the lean times will be short for you so dont worry... The round lead disc you found early on is i think a washer for the olde roofing constructions....it was explained to me that the lead being pliable enough to mold itself to whatever roofing tiles were being held in place to keep the water out.....Having said that though i would expect you to find loads of them, so maybe whatever building was there was totally reclaimed for use elsewhere Well done on the Hammered and what a cracking buckle too, and papal and ampulla....my word what a day fella
Thanks Bruce... They are fun days like that aren't they... quite exhausting but In am preparing to tighten my belt it always happens as you well know!!!! Hope all well!
Ha! Thanks Nick…. Most of it is luck as we all know but I like the think a bit of experience is creeping in too! Some of those small hammered I know I wouldn’t have dug a few years ago… hope all well!
Thanks for another great video. I went over an area I could have sworn I’d emptied the other day and found more bits - as you say, if you get a good area you need to go over several times, from different directions
I agree, until finds are very few or you get bored whichever comes first... always nice to think you may have left something though isn't it?! Hope all well!
Thanks Jesse, much appreciated and yes I will have to do a bit more research on that area - nothing much coming up so far - there was an old footpath not far off but no sign of official building yet... hope all well!
That’s one persons opinion. Everyone else likes your informative style. Keep doing what you’re doing, you produce great videos. I’ve not been out for so long as I’ve started a new job - I’m hoping in a couple of weeks to have more time for things aside from work!
I bet you wish that old bridge had been washed away and then you could get out more! Good luck with the new job! Probably not the best thing to take too many days off too early!
Thanks Amanda = much appreciated comments and I’ll tell Tasci… he is sleeping under my bed - he does that now…. Until about 4.30 when he jumps up on top! Hope all well!
I know - i like to have a good survey of a new field before doing anything... I didn't get a feeling about that patch initiall at all though ... i preferred lots of other interesting looking areas... didn't find anything in them... hope all well!
I get the feeling you do an enormous amount of research before you go digging, the same feeling tells me you can read Latin? What do I think? Your not a bricklayer! If those stones are building materials then they would have come from a local quarry, cut from sandstone or baked in a brickworks. Another great recording, your enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge makes for great entertainment, well done, keep up the good work.
Thanks Ship of Fools much appreciated! It does look and feel very sandstoney I hadn't thought of that... no I'm not a bricklayer! I will prob try and learn a bit more about early stone though... and pottery...! Hope all well
Wow. Well done, Alex. Fabulous finds. Yesterday I found a rare Iron Age/ Roman Birdlip brooch 50 BC to AD 50. Keep up the good work as I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks Robert - much appreciated as always - well done on the brooch I will have to look it up - Though I think I have seen one I will need to re-a quaint myself as to what they look like! hope all well!
With finds like don't worry about the length of the video, what another spanking day. Anyway onto thing of even more importance your lovely dog. His name is it a clue?.Alex do you use him as a beast of burden off cam, Tacsi is Welsh for Taxi, Teksi is Malay for taxi 😁😁 , ah but whoa there, Tasci is Turkish for stonemasom, hey perhaps if you bring him next time he can help you ID those stones. Looking forward to next video
Ha! Yes, its the Turkish one!!! No not really but it would be handy if he did know and I am impressed with your etymological knowledge!!!! Ok so this is how it goes.. I was mulling names for dogs in the summer before i got him... on a quiet field in the sun my mind began to wander and then a tiny beep beep... very near the surface was a tiny silver coin, a celtic silver unit... it said TASCI... a Tasciovanus coin!!!! True story! So Tasciovanus is his proper name Tasci for short! Hope all well!
Keep talking a lot, that's one of the aspects of your videos that is great, it's your style of talk that makes them more interesting; conveys your enthusiasm for metal detecting & the finding history. Another enjoyable video.
Omg what the Were the god are you detecting bro I’m so jealous that’s brilliant land never seen anything like it You so lucky mate 👍🏾 Were about do you detecting
Ha! David you don't see all the times I film and don't find anything!!!! With all respect to those that do, I don't put up that endless footage on RU-vid as I suspect it might be a bit boring!!! Hope all well with you!
Just carry on doing what your doing Alex. Don't worry about numptys who do not like you talking to much over your videos. It's what makes your videos stand out from other u tube detecting videos many of them just wanting freebies from manufactures. 👍👍 ps your understanding the Deus very well mate.
Absolutely agree. The commentary is so integral to these videos. It’s so refreshing to be able to hear the enthusiasm. Brilliant channel for so many reasons.
Going to have a full catch up tonight sorry not been about to watch just been away few days hope that your week has gone well keep up the hard work and see you at the next 👍
Ha! Look it up Tim!!! 😂 Just got back from a beautiful day in the sun here in Blighty... perfect for the new track and I filmed a "Tim Henderson Experience" intro! Hope all well
Saxons v Romans. Hi Alex. Just been looking back on your last 4 vids to find that Roman coin with a hole in it, can't find the vid now but if you notice, the hole is not where most folk would put it, 'above' the head. The hole is 'behind' the head therefore the Roman would be facing the 'mud'! I have a theory that the Saxons found these Roman coins and deliberately placed the hole so the face would be facing the ground, 'in the mud'! I have found several like this over the years and only once have I found one where the hole was 'above' the head where we would expect it to be. Finding so many with this same trait makes me 'assume' the Saxons didn't like the Romans? (It's just a theory).
Hi Colin... I'm afraid the hole and why it is there hadn't crossed my mind - it has now and you've really got me thinking... why were holes put there in the first place? I thought it was natural corosion but it now looks very purposed... hmmm food for thought! Hope all well!
Hi Julie, I’m not sure as I haven’t come across Roman road but I think this is later I think Roman was prob rougher … more like a hardcore used for building footings… I think….! Hope all well!
Question: Why was he called John the Blind? Perhaps wounded in battle as Phillip 2 of Macedonia? (He lost an eye on the point of a shield, if I remember my Herodotus.) Was it during a drinking bout, when he was injured, after a nasty fall? Or was it during a meal, perhaps he was extremely hungry & accidentally put one or both out, with a fork or spoon, or both (a two fisted eater?) Some of the monarchs nick names, & the reasons they were given those monikers, intrigue me. I've still not gotten a satisfactory answer on Edward the Confessor. (I'm wondering if a life style filled with Kingly pleasures, had him in the church confessional, more often than others.) Still it would be great to hear the REAL reasons.(Or some colorful guesses). Congrats on all the Hammys, BTW. Terriers are active breeds. My grandson just got a Shitzu, I'm not sure if they're actually canine, or simply a large rodent in disguise, I have my suspicions, strong suspicions. Though he does have something that resembles a bark. I'll take a Standard dachshund any day.
Thanks blues in g music - talking of names whats yours??!! Not sure how he got blinded but I believe it was for some time and that he was blind when he was killed at the Battle of Crecy... you seem very well read! Edward the Confessor was unusually perhaps even unstably devout I think... Anyhow what a read - it really made me smile! I like big dachshunds too - I also quite like the wiry small ones they all have great characters - funilly enough I was with one of each today!!!! Hope all well and that you are having a good weekend!
@@HolzHammerSagas the last name tipped me off. Actually I'm half Prussian. My dad's Mother was 100% She was the first of her family born here. Of course my Granddad, Moms dad. The rest is English, & a smattering of French blood. 3 great grandma's family came from France in 1712. My surnames family can only trace back to 1783, New Jersey Census records burned by British, in what we call the War of 1812. Any way. We know the German blood explains my youthful good looks, effervescent personality, humble modesty, etc. Cheers!!!
Alexander, you have officially arrived, as RU-vid put an advert in at the beginning of your video for the first time. A great day in that field. Three hammered from the same era but different sides of the Channel. Your "John The Blind" may have come back as booty with a soldier who fought at Crecy (where John died as one of the commanders of the French forces in 1346), so the three coins may have been lost by the same person. John was also King of Bohemia and Poland and would have followed his father as Holy Roman Emperor but missed out in the election in 1314, however his son Charles did become Emperor in 1346 six weeks before his father was killed (Charles also fought at Crecy where he was wounded but escaped capture), beating Louis IV who had defeated John in the 1314 election. I hope the sun is out when you and Tasci venture forth next time. PS That buckle may have even been on a money purse and be linked with the hammered coins.
Thanks John - as always your extensive knowledge is extremely welcome - I love reading it. I have found a couple of "imitation" hammered now its a real bonus esp. when you think you have found just another boring one...😂only kidding every hammered is exteremly special... hope all well with you!
Hi Alex another great video I’m just catching up,on them as recently subscribed ..so glad I have now my favourite watch .I know you don’t always add them but what program are you using on videos please !they would help a lesser experienced detectorist like myself keep them coming I love them !!
Hi Andrew! Don't want too many as I have a new coming out this evening and I don't want you to be too bored already!!! I mainly (almost always) use the HOT programme with the reactivity lowered to 2.5 as I like the extra punch of the audio on that setting - it also gives a little more depth - I find these settings (especially the Full Tones) are the best all round when using the Lite version of the Deus. Hope that helps! All the Best, Alexander
Hi Bama Dave - hope all well and thanks for the comment - I think it does seem to have a definite religious bent... I wont get on it again before Harvest in the Summer but cant wait... in fact I was thinking of that field only earlier today... all the Best, Alexander
@@HolzHammerSagas Thanks for the reply. I also noticed the piece of ceramic you showed sorta looked like a decorative floor tile Ive seen on Time Team chapel dig sites.?
Hi Colin... could be though they are very "brick" sized - the one i found a few months back that you ID'ed is very much one I'm sure.... hope all well!
