I have a 7k carbon enduro mountain bike and that thing is light compred to the bulky battery powered dirt bike. Also if you mod ur surron you can reach very high speed that the enduro wont reach unless ur going down a large hill. The video is only making you look u bad. Most dirt bikers actually meet karens and not go around being dicks

I ride a 2 stroke dirt bike. LOVE IT. I ride a pedal assist E-Bike. LOVE IT. I ride a pedal only mountain bike LOVE IT. Electric dirt bikes like the Sur Ron look rad. I'll almost certainly have one someday and LOVE THAT TOO. I volunteer for trail work on the trails I ride. One thing I don't do is play games with "trail police" pretending I don't know I'm on a machine that is not allowed on that trail, or argue with someone as to why it should be allowed. Why put them in that position? Show some respect and real kindness. Pay attention and abide by trail regulations. If you don't like it, organize with other riders on the same machines to change the use through the channels everyone else has to go through.

The main reasons that motorized bikes cant go on bike trails is that they do significantly more damage than a normal bicycle.. It can take as long as 80 years for land to recover after a dirt bike rips off the top-layer.. ebikes can be just as powerful and spin the tires in the same manner.

To be honest its probably one of the most ideal places they should be riding at. It's pretty open so they can see and slow down/stop for people easily. Unfortunately the problem here is the brand of bike. That's why the guy mentions a drivers license. They look slick and go fast so people like them but they don't comply with state law. In my state I think they cannot go faster than 28mph and they have a power restriction aswell. This bike is like 10x the power and doubles the allowed speed so it qualifies as a motorcycle. Doesn't really have much to do with it's size or tearing up trails. Bikes in compliance with the law can be the same size or heavier and tear it up all the same.

​I'm in Colorado. Technically we just lack laws governing these types of ebikes. So they fall under class 3 ebike here. Being pedal assisted you could fight for class 2. Then with a aftermarket controller you can tune down to the 750 watts. So while normally my bike is 7kw I could simply switch to a very specific mode in eco that's turned way the fuck down. Now at that point, who and how are they going to prove you violated the law? They aren't, simply put the resources required outweigh the potential outcome of a successful case. Also important to note Denver won't pull you over for low level traffic infractions so riding your surron in the street here is now essentially legal without registration as they will not pull you over for it. There is also a no chase policy here so if a cop does try and pull you over all you have to do is dump it and that's the end of that. @@PerpetualMan22

Those trails were made by guys on dirtbikes before mountain biking was even a thing. The entire mountain bike movement is predicated on stealing other people's public trail systems.

Oddly enough, you can have a motor on your bike and not be classed as a motorized vehicle. In the US, you can do this if your bike is class 2 or below. But these bikes are not e-bikes because they aren't fitted with pedals, and are likely not class 2 or below because the governor is undoubtedly disabled.

It's not. Surrons weigh a lot more and can go much faster than a mtn bike, even the pedal assist ebikes. They weigh almost 200 pounds while a standard mtn bike is about 25 to 35 pounds. Plus they rip the shit out of the mtn bike trails. We had some turds on Surrons come through a flow trail that me and the locals built and they absolutely destroyed all the lips of and landings of the jumps we built. We put in so much work just for some out of towners to ruin it for the rest of the summer season. These things belong on motorcycle trails, not mtb trails.

@thedude8526 did the community get to vote on this rule? Is it representative of the local civilians opinion. Or was it a small group of older civilians 4 to 9 depending on the district that made this decision without the communities input or opinions. Why is one citizens recreation more important than the others? Likely because those that are "representatives" of the district don't own or care for dirt bikes or anything similar. If it's your opinion that they shouldn't get to share trail, I respect your right to vote for that. But it's my opinion that no one is more important or more entitled than any other person. Share it.

@davidandrews5262 I ride motorcycles ( off on on road) and Mountain Bikes. I can tell you pretty much everyone in each of those communities agrees trails should be separate due to the dangers associated with heavier vehicles and the fact that gas or electric motorcycles go much faster than a hiker, Mountain Biker or a horse. Have you ever seen a mountain bike or hiker on a notorcycle trail or track? Nope, because its a safety concern. Also, surrons are considered electric dirt bikes in just about every state. They are not ebikes.

Very true, and I would never even think of riding a mountain bike on dirt bike specific trails for fear of serious injury or death. comparing a strike by a 27 pound mountain bike and an edirtbike. It’s like saying getting hit by a cement truck is the same as getting hit by a pickup truck. It’s only a matter of time until they get completely banned. I’m not against these guys riding them and they were chill but they just don’t belong on hiking/ horse/ mtb trails. That’s all. I don’t wish them harm or anything but they do belong in a dirt bike setting.

​@Michel074 what makes a mtb or horse any safer for, say hikers? Couldn't they claim both are dangerous to them walking the trails? What's stopping the people on horses from saying the mtb riders scare their horses? See, the entitlement goes both ways. Although I'll agree a sur Ron isn't an emtb, it's a e dirt bike. It's definitely a huge difference in size and top speed. The dirt bike is destructive more so than the mtb but no more than a horse. Where I live, there simply aren't any legal riding areas for dirt bikes. Seems to me there is plenty of room for a designated trail directly next to the one they're on. Not everyone is physically capable of riding or walking the trails, so for some, an emtb or e dirt bike is the only way they're able to enjoy like the rest of us. As someone who's been mountain biking since I was a child for me personally, it's hard not to support something that allows so many to still enjoy what we enjoy. Just share the damn trails and go about your business.
