Take a deep dive on the newly released 2023 Sur Ron Ultra Bee electric dirt bike before you make the plunge. We will take a long hard look at the machine and make some comparisons to the Light Bee.
I've been watching a lot of videos lately because I'm considering buying my first Ebike and I have to say your video is the most informative and was a huge help.
Good luck in your decision making. For the right rider and the right type of riding, the Ultra Bee can be quite the weapon. Glad the video was helpful!
Cant thank you enough for this, ordered my Ultra bee a couple of weeks back (wont be getting mine in another month though) and this video just made me 100% it was the right choice! Keep up the good work! got yourself a new subscriber :>
Subscribed. Excellent. Just received my Ultra Bee yesterday, same exact setup as the one in this video. Few things: * Surprised of all things the chain does not have a master link. I will be switching to non-o-ring * While I ordered the "street" version on purpose, I will be removing all things street that I can for off-road/single track; rear light assembly, turn signals, mirrrors, rear passenger foot pegs and rear passenger grab rail. I am interested how much weight I will save. * Funny on the footpegs. I"m an old guy, not used to footpegs that grab your boot relentlessly and do not let go. I may have happy feet when I ride, but not a fan of the "lock your boot to the footpeg" footpegs. These may be good. * I am curious if there's a quick/easy way to help protect rocks/other from coming perfectly straight up under the bike and striking the motor ... seems like there's a bit too much open air there. * It seems the bike innards being so open is great, but it also seems there will be lots of dirt/mud that can collect -- then again, you can get at it and clean .. this will be interesting! * What is the HUGE allen wrench they included for? Also not in tool box it does not have a wrench big enough for rear tire -- as you indicated, will build a tool kit, tow strap, rain jacket solution to put under the seat. LOVE the room here! * Seat and battery removal and replace is challenging for me. I need lots more practice, it takes me an inordinate amount of time to put the seat back in place. I'm a dufus, must be. * Need to put a rim lock on the tire asap .. I am very good at lowering tire pressure and ripping off valve stems. This will be my first mod. * I don't think I received a "bee box?" I need to look through my stuff.
1. A non-oring chain will definitely help in the mud with chain life, and as you know, is easier to keep maintained. Bonus is that it also has less friction and helps with range. Full disclosure, this bike of ours still has the stock chain on it after the last 500 ish miles. 2. We did the same. left the headlight (and horn). See our other video for weight comparisons. 3. I like a grippy peg, but these don't bother me at all. And they happen to be very durable. Don't ask me how I know. 4. There are a few folks making skid plates. I've been on the fence with buying one or making one of our own. In short, haven't had an issue bottoming out. Because the bike is so light and maneuverable, I've found I can correct line selections that would otherwise bash into rocks. I have dragged the underbelly on logs a few times, for what it's worth... 5. See the opening picture after the first cross country race on this bike. God...mud was EVERY where. But, as you say, with the battery out, was very easy to clean up. I like to lay it over when I wash it...so light and no fuel to spill. 6. Either the seat latch sucks or we're both dufuses. Dufi? 7. Be careful with those stock tires and tubes! Take a look at our 21/18 wheel upgrade video to see why (spoiler: we ended up flatting a couple tubes). 8. Ours came with one, but never used it.
@@StoltecMoto thank you for all! Funny about flipping the bike upside down. I often cleaned and worked on light bee, prefer upside down sometimes! Appreciate all.
Nothing better than totally impulse buying a 6 grand Chinese dirt bike, totally freaking out that I might have made a horrible decision, and then learning how great this bike actually is while I wait for it!!!
I love my surron, but I could only find it in the off-road version without passenger pegs and turn/brake lights. Surron seems to have issues finding me these parts too. Idk why I can't seem to find it online. Overall its an amazing urban bike other than I have to convert the tires to tubeless to put some sweet avons streets(strange stock knobby sizes 80/100x19 is a lame size) on as I use this bike as a work vehicle(that's right! I'm writing it off on my taxes it's that useful as an e bike!) Then I'm swapping between the 18/21 and 19/19 rims depending on my plans for the bike at the moment. This bike has been way more of a blessing than most other material things in my life, though I do wish the customer service came through better in California bay area, i have to travel like 100 miles for a warranty service!
I really appreciate the detail of this walk-around and found a lot of value in your size comparison with the UB. I'm a bit bigger then you are at 6'1+ ~220. I've had the chance to sit on the light B and have found it to be very small. I have recently also had the chance to bop onto a KTM EXC. I found the size of the stock EXC to be a bit small but manageable. Do you have any thoughts you'd be willing to share on setting the UB up for a larger rider? My thinking is: differently swept bars, a set of risers, and the 21/18 setup electric cycle rider has raved about. I am not looking to jump into a storm, since I have a fantastic dual sport already. I am really looking for that light weight electric bike+1, lol. Question concerning your stated build plan too for this bike. What are you planning on doing?
The bars would be the first stop and might be the ticket for ergos. Beyond that, respringing the suspension for your weight. Not sure if a taller seat would help (or to what extent it’s feasible), but something worth considering. Thanks for watching…
I ordered mine from a distributor in the US and it did NOT come with the MSO. Tried calling the distributor, tried emailing, tried their chat box, and got no response. Finally emailed Surron directly and gave them the vin and distributor name, they @ed them on the email and lo and behold the distributor responded immediately saying they would get it mailed out. So just an FYI for whoever is buying in the US. You may have to contact Surron directly to get your MSO. At this point I'm just waiting for the MSO to come in the mail.
Appreciate it. Did a once over during assembly but didn’t further disassemble to look deeper. The factory marked most (all?) bolts with paint dots and none have loosened up so far. Did about 9 miles of track and 41 miles of single track enduro without issue. Much better suited to the rough stuff than the Light Bee.
@@StoltecMoto great I was wondering if you marked them, good it came like that from factory a quick inspection before rides can tell if bolts are starting to walk. Alibaba seller is telling me I should receive late may, but I mentally prepared for June so that anticipation doesn’t kill me.
The international road legal version comes with passenger pegs...see video. It's definitely not set up for typical American adults, however. Seating space and suspension capacity are sized for smaller riders.
@@StoltecMoto do you know how many links the chain is? I f find it odd aswell that it comes with a 49t sprocket, from what ive read online the stock rotor should be 53t?
@@tescolemonbleach2359 Sorry for the delayed response while we were shut down. Turns out we can't read (or count). Stock sprocket is 46T, not 49T like we previously reported. But verified this time. And the chain is 98 links. We haven't seen a US-spec off-road model yet - maybe those are 53T? Hopefully someone else can chime in to solve this mystery!
Is your parking brake engaged? Both pads should touch the rotor at all times, but wheel should turn freely. Of course, you’ll have some drag from the motor…
@@MotoAlias speed comes from motor RPM and is adjustable via the gauge cluster to account for different gearing and tires. The traction control uses wheel speed differential to reduce power.
Just to ask which supplier or distributor did you use from Alibaba? I always get scared buying items from Alibaba and especially with the cost of the bike I was hoping for some recommendations. Thank you!
@@StoltecMoto Thank you so much for the quick response! One last question how long did the shipping process take from order date? Just wanting to know what to expect. Thank you!
I found the seller and asked for a quote for shipping to Florida. Is there anything I need to watch out for? For example make sure my speedometer is miles per hour and that my charger will work in US?
@@SUPERGOOSE-LLC The speedometer can be configured to read in mph or km/h. Check out our other video. As far as the bike charging, request the transformer to convert from 220V to 110V. We use the shop 220V to charge ours, but if you don't have ready access, you'll need that transformer. Ours was included for no extra charge. Only other thing is to specify that you need the price to include DDP (Delivery Duty Paid). Otherwise, you could end up with a surprise duty bill when it lands stateside.
Were you satisfied with this seller? Did you get bill of sale MCO and VIN. Would these three things the bike can be registered. Also how are you charging the bike doesn't it come with a 220 volt charger?
@@SUPERGOOSE-LLC Absolutely - no issues at all. Very good communication. Included MCO and VIN. However, the MCO contains no English so you'll need to cross your fingers that CBP will do the import without a translation. I think that varies from agent to agent. The bike shipped with a transformer so you can use 110V. However, we also have 220V in the shop, so we just use the international charger most of the time.
i can translate all the documents, the vin document just said the manufacture qiu long the black letters in the center. the lower words are printed underneath the characters.
At your height, anything short of full size dirt bike will be small. However, you can get taller bars and a custom seat to improve the ergos. Plus, a 21/18 setup will raise the overall height of the bike by about an inch.
Did you see the two small holes under the bar on the frame? Man that is real surprise! That is the hole for off road motorcycles damper! They also think this thing when they design the bike!
@@StoltecMoto I also ordered one yesterday off alibaba, it looks like I’ll be getting the same charger as you with the transformer. Are you still using that or have you upgraded to the American charger? Also, what did you do with that cable in the video that you customized?
@@Unboxfultywe use a 220v receptacle in the shop, so the transformer doesn’t get used unless it needs to be charged somewhere else. So yes, still using that cable you’re referring to.
@@StoltecMoto do you think its worth getting one from china or waiting till there is an upgrade in capacity? For an average person who wants to go out and rip for 2-4 hours extra battery necessary?
@@BraapPacker I’ve put about 55-60 miles on the bike so far with a mix of singletrack, enduro, and light duty track. For woods riding, I’ve been getting about 16-18 miles out of about 40% charge. So, could see 32-36 miles (if I was up to it). For my local terrain, 18 miles is a solid 2 hrs. I’m not an expert by any stretch, but I’m no slouch either. Track usage will suck up juice faster, as will sand. So unfortunately, the answer is it depends. But for my usual usage, range hasn’t been an issue. But you raise a good question and I’ll document future rides better and make an update video to suit.
@@BraapPacker we put Acerbis on this bike. Where we ride, there’s ample time to bash into trees on the singletrack. Plus, even a minor tip over can break levers, which aren’t readily available… yet. We’re machining up some nice aluminum spacers to allow for complete removal of the factory hand guards. Will make a video showing what that’s all about next with a link to purchase.
I want to find one to look at so bad in person! I want to find out how it will do against my little disability foot scooter? But that is a premium motorcycle for china. It's so fake that it's real now !
