Don, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful advice you have given us all. I hadn’t had a job for over 20 years and recently went to my first after all this while. I was offered the position as an Administrative Manager and although it’s a part time position, it’s a pretty intense role for a multinational company. Your videos gave me such clarity and prepared me so well to handle the tough questions and the arduous experience of 3 long interviews. Thanks doesn’t seem enough so I will pray blessings upon you, your work, and your family. Blessings to you from New Zealand.
I looked up the link for the free book but it says it can’t be found:( ps I think you’re pretty cool and I have a question if you don’t mind ❤ So I had my very first ever phone interview a month ago for a customer service representative for HSN ( home shopping network) I was nervous of course but I had to take a simulation test and passed and next step was the interview. Well I initially applied for QVC ( a sister company) and passed the test but no open time slots for self scheduling interview which is why I applied for HSN ( I immediately found a time slot but then noticed that the QVC time slot became available too ( I didn’t think it would look good to schedule since I already had an Hsn interview set up. I practiced what to say and the whole initial “ tell me about yourself “ but it never came up lol I answered professionally although she was late calling ( I of course didn’t say anything ) oppositely I greeted her very nice and told her I’m so excited to speak to her today and asked how she was doing and NOTHING LOL SHE totally ignored everything I asked and said and began reading off a script informing me she’s going to ask me questions. I was kinda in shock but no “tell me about yourself, no how are you? “ it was like talking to a computer and coincidentally enough that’s the majority of the questions I was given. No customer service attributes seemed to matter as far as compassion, efficiency and empathy. It seemed she was looking for a Best Buy geek squad guy. My question is, do you think I can call someone over her and ask for a chance to interview for QVC ? When I got the declined email it was from Hsn but also I guess the computer generated one from QVC as well since they r sister companies but I don’t think it’s fair to be denied because of an uncaring computer like artificial intelligence person that didn’t even get to know me really. Just curious your thoughts
Wow, I have learned a whole new way to address interview questions. Great job in explaining how to approach instead of just memorizing the vocabulary. Thank you.
Interviews are just ridiculous these days, you've basically got to go to interview school and learn how to make up some bullshit stories and practice them over and over again so you can perform your nonsensical script in front of the judges. I will never enter a competency based interview again. Ridiculous questions!!! How about interviewing me on my actual skill set in line with the job I'm actually being interviewed for 🤷♂️
I wish I could find questions and answer ideas for law enforcement jobs, there is very little out there that applies to me. But your videos are great and give me ideas to put a twist on.
A great example of a question, but don’t be scared if you don’t have any questions. Any senior recruiter will take in everything else in account and focus on what they actually can compare to what is needed and demanded for the job. Unless asking questions in an interview is the demand for the position
Hi Don ,can you send me some videos for ( STAR) questions for Progressive company please , The position I applied is for customer service representative , If you can help me ,thank you !!
I just love the way you speak. When I was teaching English in Asia I tried as hard as I could to get them to understand and do all of this. It was pretty funny when they practiced.
My go-to last question has always been, “Do you have any doubts about my abilities or whether I’m the right fit for the job”? If they say no, you’ve basically made up their mind for them. Plus, if they do express any concerns, it gives you an opportunity to dispel any hesitation.
I appreciate the content you have provided for free. It's super helpful for those of us who are just about trying to get entry into a role we want. Many thanks.
I think this was in 48 Laws of Power….but I remember reading, “When you approach an audience/person, try to imagine what they want to hear.” Another one is to appeal to what you can do for them, not what they can do for you.
Don, hope you can help me! I applied for this position with a company last February 2023 and was a finalist. I didn’t get the job…. I took some time from looking and now this company wants to meet with me. I applied not knowing it’s with the same manager I met with last year!!!! I really want to be part of this company and I’m doing my homework because I don’t want to have to go through another five hours of grueling interviews. Any suggestions? And Yes I’m going to ask for the job this time!!!!!!!
Well, normally I would ask questions before that already if it fits into the conversation. Then it depends on whether there are questions left. But yeah, write them down before the interview so you do not forget any.
The first question, as an interviewer, that would be an almost immediately disqualification. It shows a lack of honesty. A much better approach is to say both the pros and cons. Explain what drove you to want to look for other work.
I never have any questions because they basically tell you everything you need to know as long as you actually engage in conversation…more often than not my interviews always go from like 3 or 4 questions to an entire conversation about ourselves the rest of the time I’m there🤷🏾♂️ but I’m young and willing to work so I think that’s always gonna work in my favor
I just want to thank you Don for this video, I am currently working in my dream job after several long interviews were I applied your advises about how to answer every single question. Interview became easier when you know what exactly do you have to say. Thanks a lot again Don. 🫂
Company values is always a red flag. If a company expects an interviewee to know their values it's a red flag of a toxic or cult like workplace. There are so many more important things than superficial company values. You can have all the best company values on paper and on your website but if the company and HR don't operate based on those values with their actions then it's all just lying for PR.
