What do you think about the tan version? Why is it a bit more expensive than the black? I'm not sure how it will hold up over time, compared to the black/grey anaodized version. Is it just for dessert environment? Thanks
@@g43654 that's a great question! I just called surefire and asked. The Tan cost a little more bc the color itself cost more and it's "like a cerakote". I think it's also bc they are more rare and people who want to stand out are willing to pay a little more for that flex too. Not sure which will hold up better over time but it's easy to cover up wear and tear on black ones.

The old EDCL1-T (paired with an LiFeP04 battery) is my favorite "true" EDC light of all time. Since most EDC tasks are mundane illumination tasks, the wider beam and simple low->high interface makes it perfect for getting exactly the amount of light you need exactly when you need it. The Turbo seems more geared toward self-defense or LE. I love the concept, and I might still get one, but I'm surprised they are marketing it as an EDC. The fact that it comes on high first with ~100k candela is not exactly what I would want for typical EDC use. I almost wish they just made it high-only and leaned into the "tactical" role fully.
This light looks sweet but the bezel is way too wide to be considered for edc. The bezel is even wider than the previous generation which was already rediculous. I bet this light already uses a de domed emitter. But you can replace that reflector with an optic to reduce bezel size and maintain candela. Optics are usually cheaper to produce than reflectors too lol.
I don’t doubt this light is awesome I love everything I’ve had from surefire but their pocket clips are absolute garbage, it looks like the same one they’ve been using for years is it the same? Does it seem stiffer?
It really is man, the light is pretty insane. The other day I was out front showing my neighbor my Maratac LEP DX reach, "hey check this death ray out..." but I had my EDC1-DFT on me and busted that out and was like wayment. Now no doubt the LEP is brighter in that tiny spot but the EDC1-DFT just performed so well I was blown away. I was telling him I can get a discount thru work for $174 and he's like, "I'll take two..." while we both agreed the LEP was wild shining down the street for real world performance the EDC1-DFT is just wild. The reflector design is just so damned good...throw is insane, the spill is beautiful and super uniform.
Dang, I was hoping these would have a gas pedal. I love everything about my edcl1-t, but just wish it had more output. This new DFT is bigger and loses the gas pedal.
Can you elaborate on which momentary switch you used with your DFT? I don't think it's supposed to take the EDCL1 gas pedal switches. Are the threads compatible with the standard E1e/E1l/E1b tailcaps?
Awesome review!! I've been waiting for these "high candela" handhelds to come out for a while now. I currently still EDC that EDCL1-T because I can't bring myself to get rid of that "gas pedal" switch, which I prefer over the "clicky" style (like you). SO!! - Were you able to successfully retro fit a gas pedal switch on the new one? It wasn't really clear on the video and a Surefire rep said that it wasn't possible at the moment. Thanks for getting into the details in this review.

Are you using surefire rechargeable ones? That's what I mostly use and then always carry a spare, non rechargeable cr123. I also get new ones every year. To answer your question, no the 18350 isn't recommended for use in the older ones. I can cause the internals to overheat and potentially catch fire.
@@CivilianWarrior i tried the surefire branded rechargeables amd they don’t work, the only ones i’ve gotten to reliably work were the older olight rechargeables and some older nitecore 16340’s. Guess i’ll just have to save up some money and upgrade one day 👍
@@number69bass surefire customer service is amazing. I started having an issue with a 17 year old x300, small issue but they sent me a label to send it to them. Two days later they said they couldn't figure out the issue and replaced it with a brand new 1000 lumen model, they didn't even try having me pay for shipping of the new product to me. If you can afford going without your light for a week or two I recommend calling them, explain what's going on and see what they can do.
Dang that's something I forgot to talk about. Yes it does after about 7 min of constant on. Around 12 min mark it's too hot for me comfortably hold with my bare hands. I'll be sure to talk about that in the next video. Looks like USPS might have lost my package and thank you!

Both shipped within two days. Unfortunately the larger one is going back and forth between MI and IL three times now. I'm thinking USPS doesn't know it's supposed to be delivered to CA LOL
@@tz7207 I've been buying from them for a little over 10 years so, even before I was accepted to their affiliate program. I do like that they offer free returns but Brownells, midway USA, europtics are good as well. Bigtex ordnance is a great option too, they have a great customer service team! I usually check them all out and go with whoever has what I want in stock and at a cheaper price.
I'd say 10 min but even then they don't really get hot, not when you compare it to the Nitcore EDC33 which gets burning your skin hot within 30 seconds.
Surefire is so behind the curve in terms of output. $80 lights like Thrunite and Olight FAR outperform Surefire in terms of throw and brightness. Say what you will about Surefire reliability, but I've never experienced an issue taking Olight and Thrunite lights through classes. I carry an Olight Warrior 3S working as an EMT and I've personally seen it outperform Surefire lights in the field. Edit: typo
I agree they were behind the curve for a few years but they're catching up. Olight sent me 5 lights to review and none of them held up. They actually lose a lot of their power after a min or two of being on. Here's some proof. @@CivilianWarriorThats a pretty common complaint and I totally get it. For those who need a constant amount of light for a long period of time, something with less lumens but with a longer burn time (Surefire, Streamlight, etc) is definitely better. For my purposes, I've found that I prefer to have a LOT of light for only a few seconds to a couple minutes at most. So for me Olight and Thrunite work great.
@@iam1ee no, these don't step down like Fenix lights. They just slowly get dimmer. I've had mine on for about 10 min before I think I can notice a small decrease in light output.
