@@spezkay81 They're just normal speedos, but you have to wear them like that to slide along the seat. Wet skin slides on plastic, wet nylon doesn't really
Fantastic...gives the rest of us an insight of how a surf boat crew works , the sweep knows how to trim the boat and the crew seems well trained . All Australians know why the rowers have bare arses , the mankini comments must be from international viewers.
They are wearing nylon brief swimming trunks , “Speedo’s” 🇦🇺, (that’s another Aussie Icon ) , they aren’t a g-string but rather hitched / wedged up when rowing ….😂 .When the rowers are rowing they are sliding back and forth on wetted gelcoat surface of the fibreglass seat , the bare skin slides better and chafes less. If they were to use a sliding seat like those in a rowing scull they wouldn’t need to hitch up speedos but you can imagine how unstable that seat would be in big surf. I hope that helps international viewers ……Just an extra bit now . The way the surf club senior members select the rowers in these boats is to line up prospective candidates in front of a brick wall and throw bricks at them ……those who don’t duck are deemed fit for training , have a look at some images and video footage of surf boats in huge surf and you’ll understand.
I'm a surfer, I grew up in Torquay...in Devon, England ! This is great guys! One day I'd love to go to the Ausie Torquay... That helms good, kept it trimmed nicely.
I was in torquay once. Stayed at a nice little place called Flowery Twats. It was great aside from that tall fellow screaming at everyone all the time. We had to do a fire drill. It was a cluster fck
@@lh7801 ....and believe it or not my mother re married in later life after losing my dad... her reception was at the Gleneagles Hotel... the inspiration for Cleese.
Damn they must have been thinking "can it please stop we gotta row all the way back..." All jokes aside that looks fun and he sounds like an amazing coach.
@@bastidaverio9211 I dunno. I feel like there must be a reason boats use ballast tanks instead of gyros. probably just because they're so massive. I think a gyro of that size would be dangerous
Looks like a lot of fun, but it does not translate well to video. Could not see the surf could not feel the tilt or much of the speed. If you are aren’t a surfer of any kind it’s hard to translate what is being shown to how your body would feel if you were there. Perhaps a wider angle lens would’ve helped. Thanks for the ride!
Why is it so important to all these insecure commenters what these men choose to wear? Masculinity and heteronormativity must be extremely fragile if it requires so much harassing of others. Give it a rest and just enjoy the athleticism. Don't worry what that might mean about your gender and sexual identity.
That is a kick arse effort. So easy to bugger it up. Sweep was right on the money. You just don't get waves like that at Bondi. to train on..excuses....
