This is part-1 of a new series of educational videos I'll be doing on surf fishing. This video provides a frame work for developing the information base needed in order to make effective decisions when surf fishing. Subsequent videos will explore specific aspects of surf fishing in great detail, always from the top down. I will also be putting up a Facebook page "The View From The Beach" fairly soon, where you will be able to ask questions and interact with other subscribers. Thanks for watching and if you haven't done so already, don't forget to subscribe.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to produce your amazingly informative fishing videos, as a surf fisherman the wealth of knowledge u have decided to share with us and the in depth descriptions you give have been a lot of help personally, I can admit that Surf Fishing is a deep passion of mine (family included) and I have used and also passed on to my kids that wealth of knowledge to become a better surf fisherman, not many are willing to share that kind of knowledge or help others in the sport, let alone take the time to produce a series of videos to help anyone willing to view it and listen to descriptions and answers that just wouldn't come naturally. Thanks

You are most welcome Bernabe. I have been fishing most of my whole life so I just want to pass a little something forward to a sport that has given me much enjoyment. Thanks for the kind words.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! If you were in this room right now, you'd get a standing ovation. This is the 3rd video of yours I've watched and the content is unmatched by other youtubers. I get a vacation roughly every 3 years, and even then it's only 5 days on the shore... my experience has always been lackluster -- where i spend more time going around and asking other fisherman (and baitshop owners who are not as friendly as advertised) rather than having my pole in the water. I'm an avid freshwater fisherman out of Pittsburgh, PA. I know how to freshwater fish, i know how to read the streams and find the holes -- and i've been looking for this type of information concerning shore fishing. Your videos provide EVERYTHING I've been looking for! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

First of all thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I got my fishing rod and reel for Christmas. I'm glad I came across you. I have homework to do. There so many videos out there only talk about what lures or bait. But not actually giving the correct information you have give us here. Thank you again for doing this.
@richtroxler

You are very welcome Albert. To be honest, after all the years I've been fishing I came to the realization that catching fish is really just problem solving and applied knowledge. First you learn about all the factors involved in the species you want to catch, then you prioritize the information and work it from there. And don't forget to have fun along the way. I hope this information helps you on your journey and thank you for watching.

No kidding! These remind me of the magazines and books I used to soak up on freshwater fishing as a kid. Sure, information is much easier to come by these days, but the ease of communication makes it easier for those without real knowledge to speak. We have to read the depth of the water and find those deeper troughs and cuts where the knowledge fish are :)

Rich you've been a wealth of information I have not come across as easily anywhere else on the internet. I have yet to surf-fish, but am going soon, and I feel very confident that I now will have a great time trying out all your tips instead of guessing my way through and failing without answers

Rich, I really enjoy your surf fishing vids. your beach reading series has been a big help. You should write a book, it won't make you any money, but would be welcome among 'thinking' casters like me! Come fish with me in Montauk anytime!

I might consolidate the many posts and articles into a book one day. I'm actually still working on a fiction story, so I'm spread pretty thin. But it may happen one day. If I'm up on the island in the fall, I might take you up on your offer.

Thanks for another informative video Rich! Is it the bottom water or the top that leaves a Bay as the tide goes out? Do the top and bottom layers go out in equal amounts or does the tide primarily effect more one than the other? Thanks so much for your help! Enrico
@richtroxler
@richtroxler 7 лет назад
Interesting question. I've never experienced anything that would indicate to me that the top layer moves faster or slower than the bottom layer. Not in an inlet or in any channel deep in the bay. I will say that the upper water is warmer than the bottom water and this has significant effects at certain times of the year.

LOL, hi Ralph. I no longer use a "formal" format for recording data. I use those cheap marble notebooks and write pertinent information in no particular order. Scribbles, drawings, notes, etc. If I were to recommend a product, I would suggest John Skinner's "Fisher's log" software. John did a good job thinking out everything and I think it's cross-platform. Should be esy enough to google up.
