This was one of the most memorable fishing trips I've ever had!
Welcome back to Surf Fishing the Oregon Coast. In this video we went to Cape Lookout State Park near Netarts, OR. Unfortunately, PK's surf fishing tournament had to be cancelled. But that didn't mean we couldn't fish! What came about was catching the BIGGEST surfperch I've ever heard of, and getting my first double ever.
Tips up, tight lines and have fun fishing!

I think it’s cool how you took your time out of fishing to help someone, who is just starting to fish. That was awesome of you.

I know what you're talking about, when you hook up and you go up and put your catch on ice turn back follow your track back to the serf and find 2-3 people walked in your spot, like theirs not enough beach. Great video 👍

This is why I trek up the penninsula until I don't see people, then I fish...got like a 1.5 lb or at least 1lb perch over there and immediately another smaller one, then had to move, because of sea otters scaring me off lmao...they were definitely either trying to say hi, or not happy with me ahhaha, so I respected it...but anywho...most people stay pretty close to the campsites, doesn't take much walking to get away. Btw, same trip, you can hit up the barview jetty for a day pass on your day back to town and you get a lot of bites there, I initially first cast, had something HUGE on a swim jig (and I am pretty new to this stuff) and because I am new, I figured it was caught in some weeds or something and let the thing go after a bit of a battle only to see the decent sized swim jig nearly ripped off of the hook...something big had it no doubt, then the thing ended up chewed to pieces in the end with me only catching something on the sandworms lol. Some greenling or something.

Broskie, let's meet up sometime and go at it, I plan to gps mark where I catch them and to scout via garmin explore to really map out where the good fishing is, would love some company while out there, as I typically avoid all people lol. (got sunday to monday the 21st booked btw, let me know if you will be out there my man!)

I did better on the left side of the beach near the cape head. The further to the right had a lot more vegetation, which can be good, but it's also real shallow over there

@SometimesTurtle

@@TheTroutHammer Indeed, but I have a question for ya, should I slow reel the gulp sandworm in in order to prevent the perch from inhaling it? I like to catch and release and they are taking them so deep in if I let it sit too long...

What size weight do you use?
@TheTroutHammer
@TheTroutHammer 2 года назад
I most commonly use a 2 oz sand dollar. Depending on how rough the surf is, I will move up to a 3 oz, but the 2 oz seems to give me the perfect balance of casting distance and control

Hey we are heading over to Cape Lookout May 10 11th and 12th and was hoping to do some surf perch fishing and I came across your video. Very excited, last trip was a disaster because I didn’t know how much weight, what size hooks leader length and all of that. Do you have a video showing how you tie up your leaders? You mentioned the swivels were too visible, I’m sure that’s part of my problem. I ordered several sand shrimp but I am going to cancel all but the camo. Biggest surf perch I have ever seen, what a hog!

What are the best ponds around Portland for trout
@TheTroutHammer
@TheTroutHammer 5 лет назад
I would say, you'd probably have to ask my buddies PDXFISHING and Boneyard Bassin. They're much more familiar with the Portland area. I would personally head to the rivers for trout, like the Clackamas or Sandy rivers. Esticada Lake is also pretty good, but further away
