I'm surprised that channel has so bad ranking on RU-vid. Nobody else explains surfing techniques in so much details. Thanks for sharing your experience. It helped me a lot.

It's a shame people apparently don't have the patience to learn! The only think I could suggest is to have a brief intro summarizing what you're going to teach in each video. Your videos are absolutely fantastic! I roll my eyes when I see these 2 minute videos on 'How to catch a wave' or something like that.
It is a shame but I hope the video shorts that then introduce people to the longer version work.. you just cant coach a fundamental skill in minutes as you already know .. thanks for your input

I'm on an at least 9ft board and it took alot to convince me to use it as the big big boards scare me and are so hard to maneuver. This video addresses the difficulties I have had both getting to the outside and also the awkwardness of turning it around. Cant wait to try these techniques!! Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I took your lessons in Lanzarote about 20 years ago (maybe more!) when I was first learning to surf (my hair was a lot longer then, and you still had some 😅). Great instruction - immediately saw some of the mistakes that Im making when trying to get back onto my longboard after the roll. Also watched your instruction on the pop up - very valuable advice on using the legs in gaining momentum to swing the body into position during the pop up. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Doesn't hurt to imprint the roll-remount to either side.. sometimes you're caught at a slight angle and you can salvage things and not "lose ground", simply by throwing yourself off toward the wave side. And it's good to develop your remount both sides; saves time if you need to recover a loose board. Learn to sit- spin both ways too. That extra second or 2 gained is extra window to think and move more deliberately with good form.

great amount of details, loved these videos... Tried this on my first paddle out, and those push-ups really cost a lot of energy.. Did 3 straight pushes and i was breathing like a horse.. every punches through the small waves almost always tipped me off balance either to the left or to the right, is it because my arms are off balance?
Paddling out takes fitness of course Yuu so do tell me if you do any other forms of sport or training ? We need decent upper body strength to weight ratio but its sounds like if you got out of breath in 3 punches through you might need to get some training in ? Please tell me.
I used to do weight lifting and calisthenic until 2 months ago, unfortunately not swimming.. I jog occasionally, and I have good upper body strength I believe, could do 30 push ups in 1 go.. Not that good with balance clearly...

Thanks Tim. I appreciate your reply. One of my problems is I'm 62, relatively new to surfing and a little out of shape so I try to save energy whenever I can. The obvious paradox is that I need to be a better paddler and be in better shape to become a better surfer. I will work on your tips. I enjoy your videos. You are a great teacher.
I weigh 77 kg and am 5’8” tall. I actually use a 9 foot foam/soft top board which seems great for a beginner. I don’t think the board is the problem. I just need to put more work in. Thanks again Tim for your help. Frank Carter

If a really big wave comes make sure you face toward the beach and duckdive towards the beach as the wave breaks. The rolling effect of the wave will pull you through
Love your vids. I just had my first lesson and I'm encountering an unexpected problem. Surfer's ribs. I was in the water for only about 30 mins with a 10' board when I had to give up and come in again. My lower ribs were hurting like mad. Later on in the day it got so bad that I had to go to emergencies because I thought I had fractured my ribs. It's now the days later and I'm still in agony. I researched the issue and know by now that it's a common problem, but I can't find any idea as to avoiding the problem. Would you know anything?
Great you liked the video ..more to come of course. So firstly there is the grin and bare it approach as it will go away for most of us but its like you found out .. super painful .. but most of us do get used to it. I surf in the tropics a lot and it kills me and it can turn into a bursitis thats no good at all ,, I have a large on one rib and surf with a 1 mm vest on but in the sentiment if it doesn't sort itself out try paddleair.com/ribrocket/ or the even the Bali paddleair.com/ergo/#ergo_bali if that doesn't work .. I used the ribrocket for a couple of years in the tropics due to the same when on a hard epoxy board. When wearing a wetsuit or jacket, or on a poly, no problem. eventually I got stronger at the banana posture pushing down from my pubic bone and arching and now it is no longer an issue.

To paddle out a surfer tries to not jump off the board.Jumping off a surfboard will only slow you down.To duck under a wave - if it's small i just power through If its bigger i paddle fast then put one knee on top of the board pushing the board underneath the water- flat- so that you don't go backwards.As your going under the wave you want the surfboard to reach the other side where there is little power-if the wave is big I push the board in front of me as far as i can. When you reach the other side i use myknee on the back of the board to shoot up to the top and paddle hard. Using your body weight on your knee you'll be alot stronger.The other leg is for balance that'll be up in the air.Insight should tell you to paddle down a wave with a little angle so you don't nose dive.When you jump up turn .I go through big waves on longboards or short boards. yes a surfer does jump off his board if he's going to get killed and start swimming for the bottom pulling on his leash to protect other surfers.

btw I think you can get many more views and subscribers if you cut these tips to 10 different videos of 2 minute length each. People tend to gravitate towards shorter videos. For example, make the turning tip you show between 24:10-25:30 as a single video titled "How to Turn Your Board Like a Pro" or something fancy like that. It's more appealing to most folks than a "classroom" type 30 minute video... just saying :)
but in answer to this your right .. so we started these video short that are the last ones published with the fancy start and 3 1/2 min or a little bit longer .. as thats the normal youtube attention spam.. but its so difficult to get the right coaching techniques across in that amount of time .. so each of the new video " shorts " have links to the longer instructional videos .. hard to do but its working .. thanks so much for your attention and advice and hope we get to coach you one day too

@@SurfInsight yes my question was not clear. your video is very good in a circumstance quite clear. but put the case I am in the point where the wave is going to break. I know I have to wait the series to finish and paddle out during the interval. but as I said put the case I am there where the wave is going to bend and broke.
