Surface Pro 4 Battery Replacement, No Screen Disconnection DETAILED 

Ok guys, DO NOT attempt to swap out battery like this guy is doing. He is turning a safe replacement to a very dangerous one. Here are some reasons why his replacement is quite terrible: 1.) You risk breaking your ribbon cables. 2.) You make an easy replacement difficult 3.) You also risk bending the heatpipe, breaking your cooling 4.) Don't use cheap garbage thermal paste, use proper quality one, especially thick ones like IC Diamond are prefrable since the fit is quite bad on the surface Pro 4 5.) If you want to disconnect the battery, most people loosen some screws from the logicboard and shove a piece of paper between battery and board. No soldering required. 6.) I don't think I have to explain why playing with a high heat Soldering Iron around a high flamable battery is a braindead idea. One slip and you have a fire in your house 7.) Do NOT force the battery out of the SP4 like that, you risk puncuring it and causing a fire. Do it like most repairshops with a wire and isoalcohol 99%, it's way smoother and way lower risk of accidently causing a fire. 8.) Youre making a process that takes roughly 15minute process to over an hour process.

You might find some 1/4" ptfe rod filed the same as your green tools is better as it's the material used on desoldering pumps and pretty heat resistant. Should cost a couple of bucks.

Commenting as an electronic engineer, as others have already commented, an insane (and dangerous) way to remove the battery. Do NOT do it this way.

Thanks for the video, is it true that batteries on surface pro 5 are digitally signed by microsoft so replacing them by yourself would make the device wont charge anymore?

I think it would be easier just removing the screen and unplug the battery and plug new one in.

Which version of surface pro 4 is this? It looks like you have the fan version. Does the i5-6300U version is fanless? Also does the nvme ssd supports pcie 3 x4? The built in only has pcie 3 x2 speed, so planned to upgrade mine.

Do you have extra rear housings? I melted mine and would like to replace it. Let me know if you can part with one or have any suggestions where I can find one.

OMG , takes two mins to unplug screen from connectors and take out battery safely , he is playing with highly flammable Lithium Batteries wich causes fire almost instantly if not handled properly as of this i would NEVER send my equipment there to repair.....

Just replaced the battery in mine today, and hopefully it turns on tomorrow because there's no thermal paste in the house. The battery was so swollen, I didn't even need to do anything to remove the screen... Probably should have done this repair two years ago.

I don’t understand why he thinks disconnecting the screen is such a problem. If the device is turned off just pulling off the two cables is not going to pop anything. Leaving them connected you are 10x more likely to damage screen or cables or something. Plus it is a massive pain to have to hold it up all the time.

Dear Tech, Try to use a voltage meter to voltage in a water drop. Let see is it has voltage connect or not.? You applied the flux all over + & - connection. And you tried to a void not connect from negative by a peace of paper. 😮. You scared me. I never have seen someone introduced had been done soldering experience and do like that. Please, do not do soldering with battery connection like this again. Thanks for your time and parts info.

I have replaced surface book screen battery. When I turn on the power it does get power but the screen remain black. No Operating System shows up. How can I resolve that issue?
