Surfskating has so many different sub-disciplines, and one that I haven't spent much time exploring is the super long surfskate with huge wheelbases, until recently. Abian skateboards is a small company in Spain that make beautiful handmade surfskates that look like artwork you would hang on your wall. But they reached out to me and challenged me to try riding their boards to show that they also offer high performance riding, not just aesthetic beauty. I wasn't sure if they knew what they got into by challenging ME with that, so I agreed to put this 40" behemoth to the Mark Test. This review will not be just cruising downhill like you see most people doing on long surfskates. I wanted to try doing grinds, I wanted to drop-in to a bowl, I wanted to do some manuals and all of the classic surfskate slide manoeuvres and see how it would live up to the challenge.
I have to say... I was surprised.
