Hope you had a great day so you see the yellow star on our flag it shows the main people of our country first you had native Americans aka indians then the africans then immigration 1860 above chineeze, indians from india then javenees from indonesia
I was also going to comment thie temperature is same all year round in Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname only drops by 2 celsius during the north american wiñter.
The dawet is made from: Coconut milk, lemongrass, and a leaf called pandan. So no rose water. The coloring is done either with green food coloring or red food coloring or red cola essence. The jelly's are called Tjendol (Chendol in English). Made from cornflour that is boiled with water and then poured over in a water can with big holes. Everything that leaks out of the water can falls then in to ice cold water and that forms these tiny bubbles.
@@sarawinardi6745 it could be yes. But in Suriname we do not use tapioca. That is only used in modern drinks, made by modern restaurants. I mean the Javanese in Suriname came here 130 years ago. So yeah the descendents of these people also adjusted to the other Surinamese people. With out the javenese Suriname would not be what it is today.
You were ruled by holland it respects others. So whereever british ruled they converted people or destroy the country before leaving. All colonies of dutch, french, portiguese contains both ruler n own culture but British colonies became poor .
I'm checking my notifications everyday just to see if david uploads videos from my home country😂. Great to see you enjoyed Suriname! Also please recommend your friend Mark Wiens to travel to Suriname
As a Surinamese citizen I can say you do have a great tour guide. There’s always room for his guiding experience. That’s maybe because he’s a tour guide and not a food expert. I’ve never seen someone highlight our cuisine and culture so perfect. Not even Andrew Zimmerman ( bizarre food) not even close.
Actually no. A tour guide should know everything about his country. Not only the places but also the food. And he should be able to speak decent English so he can communicate better with the tourists. A tour guide should be well trained and educated and they should have a usual agenda for the tourists, but it doesn't look like Jenny tours gives the guides they hire any training.
yup, so true, because Javanese is ethnic while Indonesian is nationality. And the Javanese people came to Suriname before Indonesian independent, so they're Javanese but not Indonesian. Greeting from Indonesian Javanese🙏
I'm surprised you haven't been to Indonesia. Look forward to seeing you here (maybe after corona?)! Greetings from Indonesia to the people of Suriname!
Hahaha you went to my 2 favorite place..."Soeng Ngie" chinese market and "Saoenah" javanese market. The sauce on the liver is peanut sauce combined with the ketjap manis. Glad you enjoyed our food. But there are lots more you have to try. Like indian and marron food. There are a lot of places you can go if you are still in Suriname.
CONE ON!!!
I hope the tour guide does his work well. There's still alot of food and sweets you need/ have to try!! The food here is amazing. There's food from every culture here. Issa all in one country😂please don't skip the PODOSIRIE. Ps- THANK YOU FOR LETTING THE WORLD KNOW WE EXIST!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!❤ #SosoLobie
Dawet in Java Indonesia (INA) is not the same as in Suriname (SUR). Dawet is cendol in Indonesian; a green pandan jelly drink with palm sugar and coconut milk. The Javanese in SUR cannot speak the lingua franca of INA (Indonesian), they migrated to SUR before the country INA was established. What you get in SUR is adjusted Javanese food, not Indonesian food (300+ ethnic groups with their own cuisines).
@@agnetachinatam well, imho Javanese Suriname is still Javanese afterall. What this dude means maybe he got angry over "Indonesian food" refers only to Javanese food when Indonesia have a lot of etchnicity beside Javanese. But as I said before, Javanese Suriname is still Javanese afterall even you guys are way Javanese then we are, Indonesian Javanese that today Embrace Arabic influence a lot lol
Thank you. I was in the Netherlands and had my first experience of Surinamese-Chinese-Indonesian-possibly Dutch food which I liked though I could never guess where on earth it was from (answer: everywhere).
Your guide should have brought you to the “big” “dirty ” Chinese market. It’s more authentic then the soegnie market. And by the way soegnie is NOT Sunday it’s the name of the Chinese company. Anyway you ate like a lord in my country. I am glad you enjoyed it.
be a Surinamese chinese but live in China i really miss this. And your Videos make me really happy but more homesick. Really Thanksfull David hope you can visit my Hometown again.
Getting some serious cravings because of this video! Been there multiple times and I make sure I am there at least two Sundays to enjoy all the food on the Sunday markets.
I love his reaction ! I totally understand this. Last time i was in Paramaribo, it was 2001. My first child Kelvin was one year old and i had to go there visit my mother- and father-in-laws to show their first grandchild. Before that my Just mentioned visit .. then my last time present was 2 or 3 years old and left to the Netherlands. My favorite is roti, Heri Heri batjaw and bara ! OMG, YOU TRIED CASSIRI ?!? I always wanted to try, but NEvEr have ... Boy, you don't want to know how they make IT by the original handmade indiginous people !!! 😉😉😉 Its refreshing to see a mans view enjoying himself so positively !!!

Omg David thank you so much for making these videos from my home country. I miss it so much! You've brought back so many memories. Especially the food 😩😄 You have only scratched the surface. You should go to the celebration foods (65th B day, Hindi wedding, Chinese festival🤗👌🏼)
Thanks for putting my country on the map and expose it to the world. i hope allot of people through you go and visit and see what a beautiful country and people we are, sharing and making amazing food aswell :)
David, thanks for visiting Suriname. Just an FYI: Javanese migrated to Suriname in the period 1890-1939. Indians began migrating to Suriname in 1873. Chinese migrated to Suriname in since 1853
Very nice, and love the vlog love the scenes and the food stalls i think this is for sure one of the best vlogs on Surinamese food. Please also make sure the next time you do something with Creole and Maron tribe food would be nice to also highlight their food as well.Thumbs up
Hi David ,so much that you enjoyed in Suriname. Thank you for trying our various dishes. You were also allowed to enjoy our interior (adventures).I hope that other food vloggers can also experience our country and can talk about Suriname in their country.Thank you man for visiting😊🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
I was planning to visit svg for the new year but now u make me want to visit suriname. Food looks more diverse than ours in trinidad. The rose milk would definitely be on my list.
Glad you enjoyed our food! Can’t wait for the upcoming videos, very excited. Countless dishes, too much that you’ll have to stay for more than 30days David. Ethnic groups in Suriname: 27.4% indian, 21.7% maroon & 15.7% creole (African), 13.7% javanese ( indonesian), 13.4% mixed (incl. douglas), 3.8% indigenous Amerindian, 1.5% chinese, 1% European, 1.8% others. Hope you’ll visit Suriname some time again. Love from Suriname 🇸🇷
Glad you could enjoy surinamese delicacy. I lost it when you said come during winter 😂😂 like buddy its mostly always hot here. But that was fun really enjoyed this vid so new subscriber here.
Thank you so very much for making these videos to show the beautiful variety of my home country Surinam. This video, and the other two that you have made, really capture the melting pod of different kinds of foods Surinam has to offer. Every single one of us also gets along with each other just fine too😁. This is Surinam!! Thank you, thank you! Feeling home sick😭💪🏾❤❤ (We want more!)
This is the very best thing that happened to me, seeing you enjoy Suriname cause if you would ask someone in North America or Europe they wouldn't even know that this country exists. But yet there is so much more to Suriname and I really hope you get to enjoy everything that makes this country so awesome. Different cultures with their food, all delicious. Beautiful places to relax and enjoy nature. Enjoy! You have yet so many places to visit! And don't forget our country made beer. PARBO BIER
Hello David in Suriname. Hmmm Chinese and Indonesian meals. Nice view of the area. Bird then eat. Street food yum. Thank you for an awesome tour of the city and great food
Ps be advised Suriname has 12 months of summer. There is no winter. To cool off you can drink Dawet of course, but I recommend a hour drive to district Para where you can ease into the cold creeks with water that looks like Coca Cola ! Get Some !
Welcome to suriname. Enjoy. Try also our jungle like baka boto, blanche marie, drie kokro and stong island, brokopondo stuwmeer, sula's and a lot more.
Is there any Peranakan people (mixed Chinese and Javanese people and or malay people) in Suriname, like in cities in northern coastal of Java Island and other cities in Southeast Asian like Singapore, Penang, Melaka, etc.?Well, actually Peranakan culinary is the most awesome foods in the world.
