Hello Blackie- Yes- we used to use baby powder, foot powder, gold bond, ect, that would work. Back when I first enlisted, the ponchos were solid green and they were thick, I mean so thick, that you could barely fit one in your pants cargo pocket and still close the buttons. After marching several miles with the bulky cargo pocket hitting against your thigh, you usually had a nasty skin rash when you got back. The poncho you are speaking of, has an outer side and inner side (sticky side)- if you fold or roll it a certain way, with the outer side against the inner side(sticky side), the material will not stick together. Anyways- thanks for the video. Be safe out there-

I commissioned a lady to make one of these Marpat Tarps to my specs with highest quality fabric. It's perfect, but I only set it up once. It is designed with catenary cut to keep it from flapping in the wind. It has a grosgrain perimeter with grosgrain loop tie outs instead of grommets. The coated underside is a drab brown I don't use it though I really like the way it turned out. It's absolutely perfect for woodland.

what has that got to do with the present topic ?
@preacherman9018
@preacherman9018 Год назад
@@skipper9400 Skipper, I'm right on point. I love this topic and the premium MARPAT tarp fabric. Mine doesn't stick like that, probably because it is factory new and has been stored in a dry climate controlled location since the one initial test when my seamstress sewed the grossgrain binding to my specs to reinforce the edge and provide tie out points. Many hours searching and by the kindness of God found the last roll of new USMC MARPAT coated fabric that was milled for their previous contract. They will never make it again and the source dried up that day às far as I know. I had put untold hours in researching the best tarp designs used in the lightweight backpacking industry for ground and hammocks. I decided on a caternary design that provides max coverage, cuts out the excessive wind flapping without overtightning the sewn tabs. No grommets to pull out or penny tabs necessary although I like Blackie's idea. The last I checked, it was not sticking together needing multiple guys to pull it apart and grateful that talc not necessary. I was thinking about hanging it on the wall of my living room/ man cave because I enjoy the looks of the camo pattern better than any military camo in history. It's best for forests. It's not going to see use unless due to disaster. I don't know of any other tarps out there that are Barry Amendment compliant and work in the woods. I would follow Blackie's advice if you want one. He has another video on this subject if you haven't seen it yet.

Certianly corn starch as that is the main ingredient in baby powder these days after ditching the talc. Wouldn't surprised if baking soda didn't work too, although it might be a bit abrassive.
@magoolew5131
@magoolew5131 Год назад
I was just going to say the same thing and you wouldn't have the scent of baby powder on the tarp if you were trying to be stealthy. I don't think corn starch has that much of a scent compared to baby powder.

Thank you Blackie. I have used candle wax with great effect. I used a block of wax, the type you'd buy to make candles. It appears to be much better than talc etc. leaves no mess and doesn't come off on your clothes.

In the field, going from point to point, before you fold them up, lay them out on bare dirt. Roll on it, or have the new pvt roll on it. 😂 Flip. Do it again. Fold it. Do the same for your poncho if using as a shelter half. Only need to do it if it's hot out. Wash, dry, and powder before storing long term.
