Wow Jai, doing us Aussies proud. Surprised his group was allowed to get that far ahead, but things will change drastically now that he is in yellow. Hard to see Vingegaard not win the tour again. That acceleration up the climb when he decided to put the foot down was just incredible. The others were literally almost left standing, so great was the difference in speed going up that climb.

Vingegaard with an incredible time - breaks the Pogacar record Jonas Vingegaard didn't just put the competitors to the wall on Wednesday's stage - he also set an incredible time. The Dane took 20 minutes and 57 seconds to run the Col de Marie Blanque, NTT Data sensors recorded according to the race. This means he beats Pogacar's time on the climb from 2020, when the Slovenian took his first stage win in the Tour de France. Here, Pogacar completed the climb in 22 minutes and 24 seconds. Quite impressive.

@@KingOfPopStars He was never going to be a threat to Fishboy or Pog, but I feel Jumbo were negligent in allowing a possible podium contender that much leeway. Jonas is going to break Hindley in the mountains, it doesn't matter if he is in yellow for a while. It was a calculated risk. Jumbo-Visma allowed it because it forced UAE to spend all their energy on chasing. Jonas knew he was strong, so he believed he could recover a lot of the time on the final climb, which he did, all while taking time on Pogacar too, which he did.

It is fair to say that Pogo is a better allround rider, because he is more explosive on smaller climbs and in a sprint. But that being said, I actually think Vingegaards way of winning the 2022 TDF was as exiting as any tdf victory I can remember, including the two Pogo wins, and Vingegaard is arguably the more complete grand tour rider. Having a 60 kg mountain specialist dominating timetrials is not something you see every day, and he is also really smart in everything he is doing on a bike. Other than pogo being stronger in a sprint, which is not where you win GC in a grand tour, I dont think I can point to something TDF related that Pogo is clearly better at than vingegaard

Tactically not very clever by UAE. Letting Hindley away wasn’t clever in the first place and then they burned their Domestiques in order to contain the break away while TJV didn’t work at all. They should have forced TJV to work with them, because it wasn’t in the interest of either of them that Hindley gets away completely. Very strong of course from TJV especially Vingegaard and Kuss. I fear Pogacar isn’t on form after his preparation was hindered by the injury. Hopefully he will have some kind of late peak in the Tour or it might be kind of a cruise for Vingegaard, who is in great shape.

@@perhaar yes Pog beat his record, but that was from 2020. Pog himself has improved too since then. Vingegaard is in great form and he has improved much. However if you look at the beginning of their preparation Pog beat him at Paris Nice. Not with a big time gap as far as I remember, but still in a convincing way from the looks. However while Pog had an injury Vingegaard continued a perfect preparation. Therefore it only makes sense that Vingegaard is in better shape than him now. It‘s a bit sad. I5 would be very interested how much better Pog would be with a perfect preparation and if he could match Vingegaard, be closer or even maybe be better than him. I remember watching Bonds and Big Mac breaking the single season HR record with that very same kind of amazement. 20mn @ 6.92 w/kg and over 7 w/kg for 18mn at the Croix de Fer a few weeks back is just simply that: incredible. The ITA is got to start thinking outside of the box cause right now, it's not working. Feeling sorry for the clean riders.

People may not like Lance Armstrong, he said you only have a finite amount of energy in the TdF. Pogacar needs to learn this. At some point you and team will pay for overworking.

This stage was so reminiscent of the 2019 Giro when the pre race favourites Nibali and Roglic were so intent on tracking each other that they let Carapaz go into breaks unchallenged and take time.. eventually Carapaz went on to win the maglia rosa!

Good to see Pog drop in the early stages. That means he’s about to peak for the later stages just like Primoz. Stages 15+ are going to be full of attacks.

Every second gained in a race counts... how do they "not count"? Lemond won a Tour by 8 Seconds, that's literally one time bonus. If they don't count, then why do Jonas and every other GC rider contest them with equal effort?

Amazing that none of the comments are talking about Jai Hindley. People are saying Vingegaard "put the competitors to the wall" yet he lost time to a competitor who won a grand tour just last year? So many comments about his attack but the winner of the stage made a stealth attack & held on despite being solo in the final part? The European bias is crazy
@butwhowasmoto2739

It's ridiculous isn't it! Giro d'Italia winner, 2nd on GC at the Giro in 2020, AND 4th just last month at the Dauphiné, and everyone's treating him like some random breakaway winner who's no threat to the GC! Ignore at your peril, Europe!
@luciustarquiniuspriscus1408
@luciustarquiniuspriscus1408 11 месяцев назад
In grand tours there are two races, one for the stage win and one for the GC. Two separate things. Now that Hindley is in GC I don't think they'll let him go early in a stage. It's not European bias, it's cycling.
