SURPRISE DISCOVERY WITH 1JZ ENGINE! 

A couple things to keep in mind when removing the head. #1 next time make sure you secure your cams before breaking free the cam gears. And I don’t mean hold the cam with a wrench. The cams are under tension and once the timing belt it cut they can “snap” into place and actually bend a valve. (You definitely should inspect the valves as I saw it do just that) There are tools that hold the gears together, alternatively you can put a wrench on each cam and clamp them together with a vice grip. #2: A head-gasket failure is often not very easy to spot. It could be really faint or not visible at all. Also sometimes people mistake a bad head-gasket for a leaking valve or piston ring.

Welding sheet metal took me a while to get down. One thing that really helped me was switching to .024 wire. Give it a shot if you haven’t already! Another awesome upload as usual man.

Keeping things in order and neat really goes a long way. Organization is key to not losing or having extra parts.

Invest in a cheap porta power hydraulic ram, they work great for light frame repairs, straightening out core supports-pinched rails and whatnot. Great tool to have at the track with you along with a good come along winch for quick crash repair.

Cars in that era had a lot to be desired in terms of panel metal, Nissan and Toyota both had some serious room to improve. bondo was almost endemic to brand new bodies in the 90's, PS hanging out to see you drag a VG30DETT into the shop, mountain of fun to be had on one of those monsters....

Releasing the large dent in the door should allow the front edge of it to lay back down and stop causing it to hit the front door when opened

14:33 the are two set of valves that are very different colours from the rest. Most are white and then four are very brown. From the video, the vey left most cylinder has two brown top valves and the the second from last cylinder has two top brown valves as well.

so on 1jz they have coolant lines into the oil filter housing and maybe it got cracked and hence coolant getting into the oil and blowing smoke from previous user. Also could be intake manifold coolant is leaking in there to since there is a coolant line near there!

It's actually only acid with a neutralization you can just do miriatic acid then rinse with vinager water . Even with that your suppose to natutalize it

Cylinder 2 I think on head valve colouring is totally different to the rest of the cylinders I’d be inspecting that piston

Swap the glass on the door, they are easy to change.

Look for cracks on the deck between head bolts and coolant jacket

Start with spot welds mate or even just spot it all best way not to melt holes I’m no body guy but done my shear of mistakes to work it out that’s the best way to find out

Considering the 1j was really cheap you could build it and have a nice piece for the chaser, like bearings, rods pistons & cams just to name a few!! It will always hold it's value and you get to try the newly manufactured parts.

Sammit for cleaning off the old head gasket material .... Get yourself a carbide scraper, the best 20 dollars you'll ever spend.... I PROMISE !!!

some cylinders have ben running hot. so it might be some bad injector's. running lean and then boiling. get the head pressere tested and a smal skim on top and block. and piston and rod's will be good.. a bit lower compression then NA engine. and yes. swap the glass.. easy job ;)

try to picture the impact and try to picture pulling the impact in reverse. also pull little by little. and keep in mind every weld will shrink the entire metal all around. think of the metal as a firm liquid. o and get yourself a cheap set of body hammers and dollies. check the deck height with feeler gauges and a straight edge as well as block. but yeah looks ok.maybe snap a pic of hg and send to oka chan.

Sammit, please learn to wear gloves while working especially when touching chemicals of any sort. I learned it the hard way, over the years automotive chemicals ruined the skin on my hands badly. Believe me, you dont need that experience in your life.
