Matt received a call from a good friend Brooke about tagging along to look at and help pull out a 1939 Mercury Coupe. The story behind how the car ended up in the current owners possession is one of a kind, and the car turns out to be as well. The 39 Coupe has some old modifications that really give the car some killer potential. A big thank you to Brooke for letting us come along and document the story of this 1939 Merc! Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe to keep up to date on all of our builds and adventures!

It was because of me that this whole discovery came about. I hooked Dan up with the Corvette. I'm glad to see the Merc is in the right hands and you saved some stuff from that basement. The heads I'm sure were for a New Yorker that the owner (Gary) drove. I understand he also had a 429 Ranchero at one time. Cant wait to pass this video to some other local guys and again really happy to see that old car safe and sound.

Really cool find! That radical channel look, while not my favorite was a sort of East Coast early custom look-a la Cord 810- no skirts, running boards and a deep channel job often accompanied by a chopped top(if you could $wing it lol). I think your mission is clear-finish that Merc! lol Thanks fer takin us along- Really enjoyed your GNRS road trip, especially the Chop-It drive by. Although I didn't know Gary, he was an acquaintance that ran in the same circle of early hot rod/kustom guys. He was a Long Island guy back then(80's-90's), and was always amazed at his talent and the stuff he was turning out. And the time he was turning out trad kustoms when everyone else was doing pro street and gaudy graphics, this guy was blowing our minds. I'm glad to see it still thriving through his family. Thanks fer takin' us along....

I only knew Gary for a handful of years before he passed but we connected quickly because the east coast thing. His wife’s grew up in the Lehigh Valley near me and we always talked about his memories of visiting family down here. He always had the most wild stories of stuff he was doing then. I’ve stayed in touch with his sons and Nick is a chip off the ol’ block and is customizing and keeping the dream alive! Thanks for watching and following along! -Matt/ITG

Hi, Glad to see another 39 Merc come out of the woodwork .I found the remains of a 39 convertible (all 4 fenders bobbed ,no interior and no engine ) back in 63 and was purchased for $ 25.00 . It is now fully restored back to original . The body no vis 11 C 94 interpreted as November 1938 Canadian 94th unit built making it one of the earliest Merc built. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out . Kem

I was going to put that, but you got it already. We would do almost the same mods on our cars way up in the hills, keeps the car steady on the dirt coners. the drop pan in the truck would be where we put a little extra wieght ( sand bags) to hold the car basicly level no matter where we were. The chopped floor pan was to keep center of gravity as close to the ground without hitting most unleveled roads.

Always loved your content and you've been doing so many of these "barnfinds" so I had to resubscribe again, btw those old square bodies will run forever! If Treated and cared for properly. I got one myself a 1982 Chevrolet K10 with 52K original miles on it.
