David - You can give this any score you like, but I have been waiting probably 35 years for a rock song like this. Did I expect that it was going to be three young girls from Mexico? No, but here we are. They are just great.
The video took 2 hours to record, with 16 iPhones and a drone. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Your score was pretty much what I expected, and I appreciate your honesty.
These girls have been out performing expectations since the first time they climbed onto the piano bench and their feet were nowhere close to the pedals. I expect that to continue with every new release. Minds will be blown again and again!
This song has more swing, and groove than Choke has. The guitar is sat back, and Ale’s bass is pushed forward. She is really carrying the guitar parts. Pau is a demon as well. The rhythm section is the star of this song. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Something about Ale’s playing here is more powerful than I’ve heard before. It has a real attitude. Don’t get me wrong because she listens to her sisters and the producer and all, but if she wants to play a damn harmonic she’s gonna play it!
@@markjames8664 They get Ale's input on songs, she isn't just told what to do. They've said before that Pau usually starts the song, then her and Danny fill out and then get Ale to help finish it and polish it off. She isn't forgotten or just told what to do.
Best reaction I’ve seen Of Evolve I like how you break it all down and take your time to explain it all to the smallest detail. Thanks again David and great score the ladies deserve it
Good reaction! This song is an EPIC sonic tsunami!! No doubt that they will become rock legends! The entire universe has been warned again! Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
This band has a unique ability to mix elements of pop, hard rock, punk, and metal into their songs and actually pull it off flawlessly. As musicians, they are prodigies. As songwriters, they are in a league by themselves. Great analysis and commentary ( as always ) . Saludos desde Tijuana , Mexico .
Great reaction! As a fellow musician (bassist!), I really like how you break everything down. That said, I'm surprised you didn't mention the 7/4 part of the song (intro guitar part that the full band also plays together after each chorus). Then again, I didn't immediately notice that this part was in 7/4 when I first listened to the track. One sign of really strong songwriting chops is to come up with an odd time part and have it NOT sound like it's in odd time!
Warning , drums were severely assaulted during this video , and a really great score David , another banger of a song , and superbly shot and edited i must say , cheers.
The best Reactor to the best new band around! Your musical insights really shed a light on how well these young ladies are evolving in their craft. Thank you brother!
"New band"? My friends sometimes complain to me and say _"You have been following those girls now for 10 years, why don't you get a life?"_ My typical answer is: _"Get a life? You mean to sit around and watch TV-series all week like ya'll doing? Furthermore, on wednesday the 28th it will be 8 years, NOT 10!"_ 😄
You've become my top reactor when it comes to TW because you don't just react. You have knowledge with the music being played and the performance. Looking forward to see how you rate this!
David as always feelin you ma man 😊 great reaction as always. Loved loved loved it. I have already listened to it around 100 times. It’s gonna be on repeat. 9.3 is an awesome score 🤟
Thank you for another great reaction. Definitely a deserving score. Pau is definitely beating on those drums! Their evolution is one of the greatest part of following them. I've only been on this journey for a year now and I know there are ones been following them much longer. So exciting to watch it happen. We're in such anticipation of the whole album and seeing them live. I bought tickets for the show with Metallica in Daytona. Really dig this tune!!!
16 I Phones 1 drone in 2 hours, We told you you'd like it and they told us CHOKE is not their favorite song on the new album. I have heard this is not their favorite either, and if that is true oh boy what is their favorite like.
Great reaction, as always! Thanks for jumping on this, I was looking forward to it! I went back to the Choke reaction, Choke: 9.2, Evolve: 9.3. Well done :)
You know we would be here, TWA in the house. Technical difficulties is why they kept re-uploading it one was mono and the other was in stereo, it's all good now. This one is more powerful than choke was but both are just awesome songs. Dany does run the guitar through her pedal board so there my be some alterations to the sound I'm not an expert so I cant' really say for sure. So at the end of the day I love this freaking song and we still have 10 more to come. I have a question, did you hear Pau with the double kicks, I did. Epicness, it's a word now, lol. Great score too
What I like about good reaction videos is when I hear or learn something new about a song. I've seen several reactions to Evolve, where most of them concentrate on the vocals. This is the first one to pick up on the harmonics on the bass -- which I hadn't noticed previously. Thanks for pointing it out! Once heard, never forgotten!
David, I am surprised you didn't mention the half time riff coming out of the chorus of being in an odd measure (7/8) or the epic scream from Pau during the bridge/breakdown section. Lastly, you gave CHOKE a SCORE of 9.2.
Thanks for this one (you were fast this time, you know The Warning Army is hooked to you channel 😎). After a few times listening to it, I would agree that it tops Choke (both being great songs). Also, I think I understand what you meant by it being structured simple, after all this is a song built upon a single main riff, but I think it has a lot of complexity by all the different transistions and little special parts, most noteable Pau's scream, but also the drum and bass section where Ale is in the spotlight (I was a bit surprised that you didn't talk about that a bit more, being a bassist and an Ale fan). All in all a great, enjoyable review and reaction with a very satisfing score of 9.3. ..last, thanks for mentioning my name at the beginning (blush 😊).
Wow, David, again, the best reaction I saw! You work out so many details. 9.3 is awesome, this beast of a song deserves it! I love this punkish, rebellish energy! They don’t only write a melody or riff, they arrange hundreds of details and put them together. It’s a great song for the rhythm section! Pau drums sensational! Dany‘s vocals sound powerful! Thank you, to call it a reaction doesn’t do you justice, its a detailed analysis! 👍⚡️🤘
Thanks for doing this so fast, and for dealing with all the strangeness with the RU-vid uploads. My favorite Warning song so far. I also like the way the pack so much into what’s really a short song. In terms of their “evolution”, this is actually a fairly old song, I believe it was first written in 2019. Most of the material on the new album was written pre-pandemic and it just took a long time to actually get into the studio. So I wonder what they are writing now!
I love listening to your reviews because your music knowledge shows in what you talk about. I like the Warning and want to understand more what they are doing musically. It's a shame that other reviewers are getting views too when they can't say more than 3 insightful sentences.
What a great breakdown. I had heard this song a dozen times, and I did not pick up the bass harmonic's until you mentioned it. And the solo vocal coming out of the break. Guess I better start listening better.
I very much enjoy your detailed analysises. Infinitely better than the reactions that say "ooh, ah, great.". I don't normally subscribe to reactors but just subscribed.
Been waiting all day for your reaction, seeing as a million other reactors have jumped onto The Warning bandwagon with this number. As usual - you give the best perspective...this song just takes them off the planet,as the sky isn't high enough for it,and so good you got the STEREO version as it was originally posted in mono (boooooo),and I just don't understand why they ganked the STEREO version . Oh well,it's up and you haven't been blocked (there's only 2 reactors I know of that got their reactions blocked). Glad to be one of the 33 to ask for this.
IMO, the vid itself is 'The Pau Show' . She's crazy good! And though you didn't mention it, David, that scream caught us all by surprise! Great rockn tune! As you said, these gals ain't shown us nothn yet! Everything just keeps getting better, and not by a little, by miles! Great reaction/review!
David, loved your reaction as always. Even before your review, we knew you loved it (to say the least) when it pretty much left you speechless for around 20 seconds after it ended. As part of The Warning Army, you watch alot of reactions to DPA. Alot in TWA will probably agree with me when I say that you gave the best comment of any reactor: "Pau was committing a hate crime on her drum kit"......just beautiful man. 🤘🎵⚡
9.3 is an awesome score coming from you. A 10 from you would translate to 11. 1111111 in my world. So I guess a 9.3 equates to about 9.8888888. Still room for improvement. 😜 Pau is a genius and no mistake.
And there are microphones in the video this time. They heard me. 😁 Great song. I actually like it even better than the first one. If this continues, every song will be better and better. 😁
Great reaction/review David! I hope this one sticks. 🤞🤓 I can hardly wait to see them LIVE in January at The Troubadour. By then the whole 3rd album will be out and (hopefully) playing on the radio. Thank you for supporting TW by giving us your breakdowns and insights into my favorite band! 🔥🤘🤓👍💯👏
I never get tired of your reaction/analysis of this, I've watched it a few times then I noticed I'd never commented. Excellent explanations of the arrangement for laymen like me.
I know you're going to like this...bbialb...after I watch. Ha Ha! I'm getting to watch it pre-blocked! I think they filmed this with 10 iPhones and 1 drone mount iPhone... With her power...I can't wait until Dany gets into using her head voice. With all those killer drum fills towards the end...it almost has a power-metal feel. In their live stream before the premier, they said it's a blast to play live.
Like your break downs and observations on a purely musical level, e.g. the harmonic on the bass. Now I hear it too listening to the song, and appreciate the lead ins from one verse to the next you emphasized. Is that a double over triple at the end on the drums? I'm not sure. You gave "Choke" a 9.2. The song about social media is "XXI Century Blood", also the name of their first full album.
With every song they do they keep getting better and better, this song is very cool, I love it. I love the line “I’m not in danger, I am the danger”, borrowed from Walter Whites Heisenberg from Breaking Bad. I guess the girls are Breaking Bad fans. I can’t wait for their next song. Stay cool 😎 and… \m/ Stay Metal \m/
When I first watched The Warning it was their covers and while pretty good they didn't do much for me. I tried listening to their early originals with much the same result. Later stuff I liked better but still was on the fence then this came out, yeah this one tipped the scales for me. It's going on the playlist for sure and I'm going back to revisit some of their older stuff now.
Great reaction as always, thanks for getting this out- this is my new favorite by them and 9.3 on your scale is more than fair. Committing a hate crime on those drums ………….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Feeling you, keep rocking 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've listened to MANY reaction videos to The Warning and THIS by FAR is the BEST I have seen. Hats off to you Sir for a complete breakdown of the song. The talent of these young ladies has been under the horizon and about to bloom beautifully a it should. Each one is one with their instrument and compliment each other perfectly. They write their own songs, the music and perform them with the passion that is needed to impact their thoughts. Ale the Silent Thunder Queen on Bass, Pau the Massive Energy on Drums and Dany with effortless skills on guitar. Dany's vocals remind me of Ann Wilson of Heart. Pau has the same effective pipes. Ale prefers backup vocals. I see big thing coming for these young ladies and with the help from people like yourself, they are getting there soon. Here are 4 things that make them a little special !. They play Metal 2. They are all girls 3. They are sisters 4. They are Mexican
Choke was good..You will totally EVOLVE after watching this one..than if you can take it..do the ShaunTrack version of Evolve!!Do it!!Reall Soon!!Cant wait to see your wife's reactions to the great TheWarning now that she is starting to react also!!
She told us about the gloves. They were just worn for aesthetic purposes. She had never played with gloves before. She actually got blisters on her thumbs because of the way she held the sticks.
I’m guessing that by now you know that Ale uses a pick on ANIMOSITY… there is a video of her talking about it and messing up her timing when recording it
David you are the best at what you do. I can't stop listening to this song. I want to thank The Warning for slowly releasing these songs. If I had the whole album at once I would probably evolve into some audio receptive creature with huge ears with smoke coming out my mouth and nose.
Entertained and educated; well done. Kudos for being quick out of the box on this analysis. BTW, it looks like you been getting some sun - if so, sun screen baby. :-) Back to your breakdown, really well done as I have come to expect from you David. My first listen to "Evolve" I was feeling a strong "B", but subsequent listening has me leaning into the "A" territory. Finally, glad to see all the mic cables I have lost over the years are being put to good use, LOL.
I don't know is this was an omen or what, but I just broke the '666' likes and made it 667.😱☠️ Seeing as I'm just seeing this on Sunday morning, maybe it DID get blocked initially?? I can't afford another Patreon sub each month, so I'm in the dark till it shows up here.😉 Great review David, and thanks again for the shoutout! I totally missed the harmonics on Ale's bass line at 12:18 until you mentioned it. I guess I haven't listened to this enough yet, to pick up on that... Good catch!😁 Just as a side note, this song didn't really grab me at first until this video dropped. I was one of the supporters for their Kickstarter campaign last year, so I got the download (audio only) before it was actually released. It sort of grows on you like really good beer!🤣 Good synopsis on Pau's drum work pulling all this together. Those machine gun hits are definitely going to keep Sabian, Vic Firth, and her other sponsers in business supplying new heads, sticks and cymbals!😂💥 D.P.&A. have a LOT more tricks up their sleeves, and have done a great job of using the element of surprise on *ALL* of us. Let's hope they continue to do so. Great score on this, and well deserved, I think! Looking forward to more.👍 🤘😎🤘
My god this girls has turn to beautiful angel and skillful music player...glad they have their attention that they deserva, and thank DH for helping us see them EVOLVE :D... BTW, at first listen i didn't like the production of the song in this reaction video, sounds muddy and low res, cant hear much details...maybe its the audio...but then i check the original video from the warning channel, and it sound a lot better and i enjoy the song better.... speaking of harmonics, many guy will die to get harmonics with ale the bass player :D...
It's now been 1 year. And I think this song had a hidden meaning. Since that bridge/bass and drum solo IMO they have slightly shifted into a bass driven band. Just look at "money" the bass drives the song and the guitar is an accent on it... but maybe I'm crazy
David, I've suspected that Ale's abilities on the bass (such as the harmonic you pointed out) give Dany more room to lead on guitar by taking over some of the rhythm guitar duties in addition to the normal bass role. Thoughts? Somehow, I don't think that the jurisdiction issue you mentioned when you play harmonics on the bass is much of a problem between Dany and Ale. One advantage of being sisters, very close to each other, and more concerned with the band than their own self-glorification.
Oh no no no I didn't mean it was a problem between the girls (Oh dear lord I hope it didn't come out that way). I meant in general when it comes to bands, not them in particular. As far as Ale's harmonics, bass harmonics sound very different from guitar harmonics. It's a richer tone, very distinct. I suspect they had Ale do the harmonics because of the tone that bass harmonics produce so it would help fill out the sound in a unique way. Other bassists notorious for using harmonics that come to mind are John Pattitucci, Victor Wooten, Jimmy Haslip, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Bootsie Collins, John Myung, Steve Harris...just to name a few.
The Who and Rush both Entwistle and Geddy did many things to fatten the sound with just the one guitar. Bar none the best example is The Who Live at Leeds. Compare the beginning studio version of Pinball Wizard, guitar, and on Live at Leeds it is Entwistle with bass distortion. John did so much stuff to fill out the gaps with no rhythm guitar. In an interview Pete Townsend said Johns sound was so complex they need many other instruments to fill out the sound that John did alone. In a single guitar band with all kinds of overlayed guitar, when live they go to a solo there can be a gaping sonic hole. Not a dang thang wrong with bass stepping up the game to cover the whole. Kudos to Ale to add some bass flair. She is following the Ox's example.
@@jamesgreen5431 , I think I more than once have commented that Ale at least sometimes should step outside her "rhythm section box" and let the bass be the rhythm guitar in some songs, just like a lot of other rock bands do. It can make a very fat band sound, where the single guitar have much more freedom. Swedish Viagra Boys are a 6 piece band and they have some songs where the bass groove are completely carrying the song. Remove the bass in those songs and it who be like hearing Jailbreak by AC/DC without Malcolms riffing rhythm guitar. The most important part of the song will be missing.
@@THEDavidHeretic I didn't hear what you said as implying any sort of problem between them, just commenting that that kind of issue would be particularly unlikely between Dany and Ale. Harmonics are more pure than stopped tones (at least that's the case on violin-family instruments, without frets to produce a harder stop), but they're certainly not pure sine waves, so I'm not surprised at the difference. It still helps fill out the sound, which is really what I was getting at.
@@westmus Totally agree West. Lemmy also used to bi amp his stuff to fill the sound out. With a single guitar band bass should broaden the sonic footprint beyond typical.
Great reaction! I was really expecting to have to wait a couple weeks for this one. Pokemon wasn't the anime I was thinking of, though. ;) I was really expecting to have to wait a couple weeks for this one. Good thing you're leaving some headspace for higher scores, I've heard that while Choke was only the band's 12th(?) favorite song on the new album, THIS one scored...11th??? Looking forward to more, in any event. On that note, I don't think you've done their cover of the Foo Fighters' Everclear, @LICEO. Thanks!
