Balkan Detours: Tito's Legacy Uncovered (Season 01, Episode 01)
Three years ago, we embarked on a road trip to Albania - which took a sudden twist, leading us on an unexpected journey through the former Yugoslavia. We never arrived at our initial destination. Our car broke down, marking the beginning of a three-year adventure to reach Albania. This was the start of our Balkan detours! Our first stop in 2021 took us to the remnants of Yugoslavia's central educational institution for Communist party members. Amidst the decay, the structure stood as a testament to Yugoslav architecture, captivating us with its unique design. Join us on this first adventure of our new series "Balkan Detours" as we explore fascinating relics of the past! #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex

Another amazing Historical adventure! Our eyes have been opened to see the fear that war brings, A school with a massive bunker under it to protect the students! Pretty scary stuff, but thanks to BWT our eyes have been opened to experience what fear meant during the cold wars and all civil wars that followed! Will History repeat itself?? Let's hope not!! The Music was phenomenal for this clip, it was intense and really set the mood for this great explanation! Thanks BWT!!

The first video you made at this site was spectacular, watched it back then. This one is even more incredible. You guys were taking some big risks in that tunnel. Pathogens in the air, unknown things living in the water, electric shock if some wiring or equipment in there was live, risk of sudden flooding - tunnels and caves are dangerous. But it made for riveting content no doubt. As for the building - while not a fan of brutalism, this architecture was truly unique and impressive. Hard to believe that so much decay has occurred since the time of abandonment. Water is the number one enemy of building interiors.

The projection room set up was odd. 16:47 you can see a wooden slat wall covering the projection portholes, which may mean it was only used as a cinema originally but changed to live show or lecture hall later? Those projectors are Meopta Prerov -- Meo 5 -- made in Czech Republic. Maybe around 1970s. They are considered one of the worst 35mm film cinema projectors ever made. They weigh 170kg and used xenon bulbs as light source. Meopta however made lots of good quality photo lab equipment like enlargers (I have one), etc, and now make high end optical equipment for scientific, military and industry use.

We can advise to 'be careful' and I'm sure you are, but exploration comes with some risk. If the mothers of explorer sailing ship captains of the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries said "I'm not allowing you to go down there it is too risky'" - then large parts of the Southern Hemisphere/Pacific including Antarctica would not have been discovered when they were. @@bwturbex

Great video guys! Want to share some insights on how this location was "discovered" within the exploring community. As early as 2013 I started traveling Southeast Europe a lot, but none of my exploring friends wanted to join me. I then met up with Mirna, from Zagreb, and it's her research that led to this place. A very small article on a local blog mentioned the closure of the school. The only article on the school at that time, with one blurry exterior shot of the school. It was a dark and cold winter day in 2014 when we headed out to Kumrovec. The school looked massive, and we had no idea about security or motion sensors. It was sealed off 100%, we didn't find a way inside. Until we found one window that could be tilted - we were in! What we saw was incredible; the bar was already nicely decayed, the lobby was pristine with telephone booths, reception desk and lockers, and all the books were there in the many rooms. We never posted our photos. About a year later the fine folks from Croatia Infiltration stumbled upon it, and the rest ... is history :)

My great uncle fought the Nazis along side of Tito. He was a General in the Yugoslavian military. My relatives think that's why he was allowed to keep the family home in Orebic. My uncle Eli, who was a police chief here in the USA flew with V. P. Mondale & Mn State politician Rudy Perpich on Air Force 2 to attend Tito's funeral as he USA delegation. At the time I thought it was because of my uncle's local (Minnesota) political connections. Then I later learned about the Great Uncle's connection with Tito.

Do you know if there was ever any other urbexers, aside from Sam and Jess explore, that may have explored the bunker while it wasn't flooded?

Amigos.

Hey there, I'm so sorry that we don't have Spanish subtitles anymore but we don't have someone who can translate that. We had help in the past but we can't afford to pay someone for doing that. I'm so sorry! We'll check if we can activate automatic translations. That could help!

0:32 I would love more footage of that cookout or BBQ as we say. This is a building worth protecting but the first thing you raise money for is a roof as we see.

That BBQ was at a local holiday (that we caught by surprise, haha). There might be footage from there coming as part of another episode from this season of Balkan Detours. Stay tuned!

Yes, this place is pretty popular in the urbex community. It's nicknamed "School Of Moss" and you can find lots of footage from there online.
