I regularly get 4.8km (3 miles) out of my FlySky ia6b rx's as I'm amped up on 2.4ghz, it would go significantly further but my video is crapping out at 3 miles.
@@AndrewHollywood mate when I started out I was a bloody nightmare, I’d be making massive gains, get excited, start free styling my head off then BAM - broken prop shaft or arm! 😅 I definitely caused myself a lot of nause! it’s going to happen at some point 🙃
Not surprised at all - I got 800 metres out of the d8 transmitter from the Emax Tinyhawk rtf package bound to the Tinyhawk Freestyle 2. That was from a hill for elevation.
I'm probably gonna slap a rush tank (mini? I would want a solo but idk if I can even mount it) or one of the akk vtx on this, change the rx to a happymodel expresslrs 2.4ghz (way overkill but cheapest out of the lr ones aside from crossfire which is oos), some diy helical antennas for the goggles and a 4s diy li-ion pack (from some samsung cells probably, can't be bothered to spend extra) and really test this bad boy.
The D8 protocol itself isn't too bad, just those crappy clone rx's are usually awful - but it is interesting how they normally go way way lower in the RSSI than a proper FrSky original, but the control signal is kept. My D8-RII+ rx was always good for several Km
