My former boyfriend committed suicide in late November 2022. We were together from right when I turned 21 until a month before I turned 24 [I'm currently 25]. In that time, I saw him spiral quickly into heroin addiction, get treatment, get clean, get a [shitty] job and car, and then he relapsed after a year of sobriety. I stayed with him regardless for months until I finally found the strength to walk away. But he was always a wonderful person. He was honest, and he fought HARD to get better. Addiction and mental illness took everything, and it took him and the people who loved him to the most horrific places imaginable. I truly have PTSD from the experience and I can't bear to try to imagine the pain he was in by the end. I went no contact with him for several months but at the end of his life I came back and we were on wonderful terms, we were best friends, but I was one of the only people he had. This songs lyrics really perfectly describes the place I'm at mentally 3 months later. Trying to move on for my own sake and to make him proud. Trying to quit drinking, fighting against my own addiction and mental health problems, and I got a new grown-up job. And I have no clue "where he is", whether he can see me or know what I'm thinking/feeling or what. There is only confusion and very little comfort. My girlfriend just passed away while we were on vacation in Key West for her birthday. We got hit by a car while we were on a golf cart and she didn’t make it through. It’s been hard of course. I can say some days are so dark where my thoughts take over and don’t know what to think about life anymore. Then when I start to get going and pick myself up I have some guilty sense for trying to move along. She was the most genuine real person I’ve ever met in my life and loved her with everything in me. Always and forever will miss her and will forever live through me. Just keep pushing, thank you for the words. Makes me feel somewhat better that people can know the feeling. Hope one day I can see her again more than anything else that I want In this life
