I just put in a Beam V2 and two One SLs for surrounds. I had a similar Yamaha system several years ago and it was pretty amazing, but my cats chewed the wires incessantly. I love my cats, so fix number one of getting rid of them was a no-go. With a smaller room the Sonos does an awesome job with no wiring aside from power/HDMI and easy setup. Agree on room size - Sonos + a pair of One's is a solid setup for a small - medium sized room. A Beam alone can't be expected to perform well in a small theater. I have a Bose Soundbar II also and the Beam outperforms it.

What you forget to mention is that you can also purchase extra speakers either spending a lot more money on Sonos or buy ikea symphonisk speakers and you’ve upgraded your Sonos gen 2 still for not much more than the Yamaha amp with all its speakers too!!

It is the ability to upgrade the speakers at anytime, place speakers/sub(s) wirelessly around the room, fine tune with True Play, and move the system to a spare room if you upgrade to the Arc is a HUGE plus.

Flawed test. Yamaha was not calibrated. And who has a living room that big. Neither of these systems are designed for that size of space. I have a 5.1 surround system and I can place where sounds are coming from very easily. The sonos is best for smaller rooms and for people who want better sound from their TV with little fuss. And where does sonos get the sub bass from? You need to buy the sonos sub woofer. If the sonos could do everything, then they would need to sell a sub. Can't escape the laws of physics. Cannot produce sub bass with moving a lot of air, which the sonos clears does not do. BTW a friend of mine has one. It is very good, but no replacement for a multi speaker set up.

You want a compact home theater that takes up less space and reduce clutter via running wires and still gives good sound??? You do Sonos. You want the most legit theater experience?? First off don’t be in an apartment…be in a house, ideally you treat room with sound dampening. Then you do the full 7.1 with a sweet amp and powerful sub. That’s the legit theater experience and you go for that. Plus no stressing on signal interference or WiFi concerns. Basically both are solid in their proper environments.

That's a lovely cinema he built. I do understand what you guys say about the test which should have had a smaller room for it but Anderson's home cinema is awesome. Hopefully, they do a separate documentary on his cinema and not new sound devices

I think I would have picked a small to medium sized living room for the test. The Sonos Arc would have to work a littler harder filling that amount space with Atmos sound without the benefit of dual subs or Era 300/Fives as rear surrounds.

The test between the 2 systems was rubbish. I've got a 5.1 cinema sound system and you don't have trouble identifying where the sound comes from ...... I would say it was the way the sound was recorded that was the problem .....As neither system was perfect ...

Nice idea of a comparison test but in that cinema room? Cinema room is specifically designed to not bounce sound over walls to reduce echo and has seats all around that also reduce reflecting sound. Setup is definitely not comparable to a living room. Failed test.

@@MrZACATECANO100 it depends on how much of the length of the longer soundbar because it doesn't seem to be fit between the tv legs I just got the 55 Inch 4k Hisense android TV A6G

Plus my tv doesn't support Dolby Atmos it only support Dolby Digital plus and DTS VIRTUAL X

If you bothered to add 2 Sonos One SLs and either a Sonos Sub Gen 3 or a Sub Mini the Sonos would win hands down. Great immersive sound and no speaker wires in sight but admittedly not cheap!!

The room was too big for this test. The Sonos would work better it a smaller room where it can bounce sound off the walls. Even for the Yamaha the room is too big.

Not the best test you guys have done, the room was far to big for both units, I didn't see the Yamaha being set up properly? IE with a sound level meter? ...I had a 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos system and believe me it takes a lot of calibration , I upgraded from a Dolby 5.1 system ( which you must set up with a sound level meter) the inbuilt set up software is OK but not as good as a physical sound level set up?, This test should have been done in an average size room with furniture etc and closer walls to bounce the sound off, very unfair on the Sonos. i have tried sound bars and when set up properly they can be very good 👍.

What a load of bollox. Dolby Atmos can't work unless you have speakers all around you. A completely stupid comparison. Compare the soundbar to a full Dolby Atmos set up and the Sonos will sound shite. Really bad TV. How much did Sonos pay for this propaganda?

lol what a load pf propaganda 0:56 ten of those wouldn't equal to single cinema JBL THX doing the bass mid and hf at the empire leicester square . what am i watching . yes as ex retired cinema projectionist UCI tower park that used the first experimental overhead surround , 1989 yes 1989 and it goes back even further to late 1960's. also worked for warner bros . this video is so inconclusive of the test as the "sound expert kevin" who ? who ? what am i an owl . who . this is sound gadget propaganda . 4:06 not even at the height of those JBL 8330 and i can see where , i'm not blind yet . this is the sort of inconclusive video made for the dolby atmos brainwashed masses . 4:10 that home cinema isn't doing the surrounds in the correct surround configuration as there are no speakers on back wall . also the echo in the room . shouldn't have an echo . echo effects are mixed into music or movies as an effect to create what ever . the room should be echo reflective free of echo . place closed headphones on and sounds sort of echo free and any echo effect will be on a music/movie mix as an effect . i can't stand echo . 7:19 and i don't see this home cinema even rigged with atmos speakers , oh no they ain't called atmos speakers , they are simply called a speaker used for surround or back surround (more on that would take bit of more explaining if your not a projectionist ) oh and no overhead surrounds . so what was the point of this video then ? 8:44 not at all with a rock as i have offsically boycotted rock in my home with these rubbish sound editors re-recording mixers and dolby labs rubbish atmos that isn't a 3d audio system . worst sound format delivery of the last 35 years , a waste of my listening time . this video makes me want to throw up pukeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee aghhhhhhhh

@@RogerBaswell less than 10k , ebay has cheap used so 10k and may have some leftover . i was offered vic v 35mm 8 or was it 10 years now , for £350 and i turned down the offer
