Survival horror is one of my all time genre's in gaming. Take a horror movie, then let the player take control of the unforunate person who has to endure all the horror and gore. Simply awesome. Naturally I have gained a nice amount of titles over time. check it out :D

Resident Evil 2 is my favorite game of all-time. By a long shot. Greatness! Nice video and love the collection. I've also got a really big survival horror/horror collection. Good stuff.

all residenrt evils is a walk in the park compared to code veronica had to restart that game over and over till i could finally finish it !! I didnt use a walkthrough fuck it so that one kept me busy

But I mean it only makes sense. CV was the 1st Biohazard game to incorporate how big a game it was. Whereas Outbreak games showed that you're going to have to go all out with going through various rooms in so many locations (which have been my favorites over the years). My point being with Code Veronica with the new graphics engine they were working on they were getting you prepared for games like the Outbreak series (if you're into those) and RE Dead Aim.

Actually I can do you a few better. Clock Tower (SNES) Sweet Home Haunted House Halloween I was just making the point that it was the first dubbed "Survival horror" and truly brought the genre to light and helped put it on the map.

i still don't get the complaining about reusing the nurses when they've been around since the first game. and yes silent hill 4 was always a silent hill game.

Michael Collins the main problem is the "sexy" nurses, normal nurse enemies wouldn't be an issue I think.

Also, SH3 is the best IMO. I know everyone favors 2 but 3 just did it for me in terms of fear, atmosphere, monsters, music, etc.

fair enough. it's not survival horror in the strictest sense of the genre, but it had a really big supernatural j-horror tilt so i tend to cram it into most survival horror conversations because it's awesome. dig the channel btw!

i literally got the HD collection like 2 days ago ( X360 ) and now all of the sudden i keep hearing about how bad it is ;__; played 2 for the first time in 2004 or 2005 and don't really remember that much of it 3 i never played tho .. i already put like 2-3 hours in 2 .. i see no problem with it it's just all this bad talk about is making me feel like i need to find myself a ps2 copy or something which will be a pain in the ass for me ;__;

In the HD collection there were many problems with the fog, with the darkness of the game, I mean seriously, you can't see shit even with the flashlight on, and in Silent hill 3 there were a lot of sync problems with the subtitles, and you didn't even have the original voices, so I guess all these have ruined the experience for those nostalgic players. And the most fucked up thing is that those versions of the game were beta. YES. Hullet actually said that he got the source codes that Konami had on file, but those weren't even the final release versions. To back that up, SH3 had a day one patch, I mean ...

A cool fact for you Alpha, before the Interview with a Vampire style stories our modern depiction of Zombies is actually spot on for the old school ideas of vampires. Bloated corpses rising from their graves to feed upon the living. There was nothing sexy about them until one really weird lady decided to make em look good. Make of that what you will.

There isn't any Beta of the game floating around honestly. Only thing available is a home made version that a team has been putting together. They've been using still screens from the available screenshots and videos that have been around.

no flashlight so no more darkness and beautiful shadowplay and they force you to play through the same levels twice...besides that it's a great game

Any developer that wants to tackle a Silent Hill game has to watch Twin Peaks and Jacob's Ladder otherwise they just try to make standard creepy Halloween horror nights schtick. Shattered Memories is not a Silent Hill game, that's the one where they slapped the name on it, if you renamed the characters you wouldn't think of Silent Hill at all, it could have been its own IP which might have been fine.

WELL ACTUALLY Sweet Home on the NES or even Haunted House for Atari if we wanna get real technical. Point being Resident Evil was the first game to be coined as a "Survival Horror" game and it in itself, even if it wasn't the first game to have those actual elements within the gaming world.

I have to agree with you getting stuck in SH3 a lot; many of the puzzles were more out there than the other games. Nothing in SH1 stumped me, the only puzzle in SH2 was the juice box. In SH3 I didn't notice the bloody feet for the hidden doors, the chain and carousel puzzle and quite a few others.

Resident Evil solidified the ideas, and pretty much improved on all of Alone in the Dark's aspects. It's what standardized most of what you saw in Survival Horror games at the time, which is why it's usually seen as the founder of survival horror games, despite Alone in the Dark coming much before it.

Fun fact about Haunting ground: It was originally Clock tower 4 but because it was just so different and Clock tower in general hasn't been too succesful so they took it and changed the name thinking that no one whould notice (except for a Clock tower junkie like myself) and generally they weren't risking sales since Clock tower wasn't all that popular.

I remember playing the second Obscure game on PSP. It was terrible. Mainly because of the plot. And I said in my Resident Evil Revelations review that there was something it reminded me of but couldn't place it. It was Obscure II. And do you not think Bates from Clock Tower 2 sounds like the VA's trying to do a Duke Nukem impression?

I agree that Parasite Eve is survival horror. It was the first survival horror I played and it was not only a great intro into the SH universe (survival horror and RPG are my favorites) but it scared the crap out of me. I had to stop playing at points because I was so terrified and I didn't want to play it at night either; that's truly a great SH game quality!

The first Fatal Frame was the scariest game I've ever played. I haven't played the second or third one though. I did just repurchase them and I plan on playing them. Silent Hill 2 was my second most frightening video game experience. I only played the first 3 games in the series though. I recently bought Rule of Rose and I'm playing it currently. I don't find it scary but I am enjoying it.

It's a myth that Silent Hill 4 was not originally meant to be a Silent Hill game. It always was and I like it lots. The Forbidden Siren games are really freaky. If I had a choice I would always play the Japanese language version with English subtitles. The voice acting on the first one is a bit off putting. Sweet Home and Alone in the Dark are the parents of Resident Evil. Both great games.

I just started getting into the survival horror genre and there was a few games from your entire list that i've already played that i didnt know they were survival horrors but i can see why they are in that category. like condemned 1 & 2, f.e.a.r. 1 & 2 and a few others.

The issue for me is Clock Tower II: Struggle Within is a spinoff, in Japan it was called Clock Tower: Ghost Head. Also Clock Tower on Playstation was in fact Clock Tower: The Second Fear, The First Fear came out on the Super Femicom 1995 Japan only (no SNES mouse support), ports to PC & Playstation in 1996 and 1999 for Wanderswan. Many call Ghost Head the worst in the series.

agreed which is pretty lame, but let me ask you this. When you played homecoming did you appreciate the room maybe a little bit more? Homecoming just pissed me off. I am loving downpour though and he hd collection is excellent, thank god I got it on the 360 though as the ps3 had way too many problems which sucks. What do you think about all that?

Anyone else cringe a little when Alpha brought up the 'Silent Hill HD Collection' and how cool it would be to play the games with "nicer graphics"? I sure as hell did. Also, I'm a bit proud to see how many of the games he showed in this video I also own. I'm a bit of a horror game connoisseur.

I'm guessing you already know this but i just found out that the green label greatest hits version of the original resident evil with the zombie on the cover has an entirely new soundtrack which kicks ass. It's not as epic as the original but it's worth owning.

Fun Fact: The dog in Haunting Ground is the same dog that (if saved from the bear trap) will help you with one of the bosses in RE4

Wolfenstein 3D did come before Doom, but there were also FPS games going back to the 70's. Maze War and Spasim were the first two FPS games.

Resident evil 3 & CV lacked one of the coolest effects that 1 & 2 had which was when the zombies would bite your feet you can actually smash their heads or kick it off! In 3 nothing happens you can still see its head...for CV their heads just turn red & if you use the shotgun or the magnum you still get the same animation

and the unlockable in origins are INCREDIBLE, my advice to anyone playing threw the game is not use your flashlight(it';s one of the only titles where u can pick up items with your flashlight off. if you use it under 20 minutes or so u will get the NIGHTVISION goggles, so many cool thinks that make it a great replay. great videos by the way OMEGA, I agree with your two favorite RE2 AND SILENThill2 bot, something about that second installment in series. aswell as fatal frame 2. keep em comin

I have most of these survival horror games on the Gamecube and Original Xbox. The only Survival horror games that I own for Playstation and Playstation 2 are the ones that were never ported (which aren't many). I started playing Resident evil on the Playstation, but now I usefully play the Gamecube ports. Back in the day you had to have an original Playstation to play Silent hill, Resident evil 3, every Parasite eve, and every Clocktower.

I really wish they would have made it it's own standalone series. They probably felt it wouldn't have sold as well being a new IP and said fuck it. Silent Hill 4 it is!
