I love the ceramic striker, haven't seen that before. I have tried several ways to carry a small edc bag with me as my outfits don't always have pockets. I have a fanny pack for daily stuff, and take a backpack with me to work. I tried a survival necklace and it was bulky and not comfortable, like you mention. I finally settled on a very small zipped card holder just a tad bit bigger than my driver's license on a paracord necklace. It has 3 places to put stuff, a small clear slide in pocket meant for an ID, where I put my work ID and license, a couple of small post its and a $20 bill, a zipped pocket where I have the bathroom key, a credit card tool with scissors, etc, 3 little plastic card protectors (one with a couple of bandaids, an alcohol swab and antiseptic ointment, one with a couple of needles already threaded and a couple of safety pins, and the last one with 3 matches and a striker, all sealed with electrical tape) and then it has a little pocket you could slip more cards in, and in there I have a photon light and a small whistle like yours. It's very lightweight.
That sounds like an ideal and low profile way of carrying essentials. Hope you are well and had a good Christmas. Thanks for watching and enjoy your day 👍
Nice bit if kit. I see that you have tried the ferro rod and ceramic striker successfully. Have you broken the ceramic striker while using it? I carry a dog tag, whistle and key on my chain necklace.
You may have an interest in building my survival device that can also be worn around the neck. I use elastic cord for swift removal or mini belt lock type device. I use a 2 inch x 3 inch survival mirror as the substrate for the device with the following items glued/expoxied to its' back side clear of the sighting hole. retractable whistle, container w/water purifying tablets w/a modified Silva compass on its' lid, removable 650 lumen flashlight (torch) w/hand lanyard, another container w/ tinder, a modified ferro cerium rod epoxied to a side of the survival mirror & a modified diamond knife/hook sharpener on another side. I've drilled a hole for a cord that goes to half of the mini belt lock for the lanyard. I rubber band a very thin Boker folding knife and a Victorinox device to the mirror side. I should add my 64 feet of 300 test pound strength Kevlar cord as well to extend its' usefulness. Alternatively, I keep the device in my chest pack with other pertinent survival gear or my patented hiking or running pack that both eliminates the five to eight bio-mechanical inefficiencies of the backpack.
