This is the 9th video of my series to track my recovery from Achilles Tendon Rupture. I ruptured my Achilles tendon while playing soccer in mid Jan 2023.
This video includes my progress in the month 4 after my surgery, including my walking pose, my walking trends, calf/tendon size and strength, exercises and future plans.
Hey it's Yulong. I am making a series of videos to document things I learned from my Achilles Tendon rupture that I didn't see anywhere else mentioned. I got a lot of useful information and mental support from videos of other rupture patients so I wanna do the same, hoping my videos could help others too.
Feel free to drop comments if you have any questions!

You have been the most helpful of all the RU-vidrs on this subject for me. Your emphasis on calf weakness helps me not to feel alone. Thank you so much!

Great video. When were you able to start pool exercises?
@iamyulong
@iamyulong 5 месяцев назад
around week 10 - can prob start even earlier but it's more of a mental barrier worrying rerupture

you def should be stretching to get dorsal flex back! it will help your calf get stronger too because you can’t flex your calf totally without the dorsal flex
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
that worth a try! I do have 10-15 degree dorsiflex, but should prob start stretching beyond

I'm at 8 weeks post non op. My Physio guy says that it's Ok to ride my bike with the moon boot on. But for some reason doesn't want me swimming.
@iamyulong
@iamyulong 3 месяца назад
yeah moon boot stabilizes your ankle so much less risk riding bikes but in pool you can't wear it and it's slippery so they are cautious I do know vacoped is designed to be wore in water too so if you happen to have that you can ask your physio if getting in the the pool with that is ok

Hi again, Yulong. I am a few weeks behind you. My biggest obstacle for walking without a limp at this time is ankle tightness and swelling. Is your ankle still really tight or have you been able to work past the tightness?
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
hi it's very tight in the morning when I wake up and also every time if I sit for while and try to walk, but once I get to walk or use it a little bit the tightness is gone. it's still swelling though, so I am massaging daily and wearing compression sock

Just got out of my 2nd cast and am in a walking boot now. When should I start rehabbing? And what exercises should I start out with?
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
best way is to check with your doctor - I started rehab around week 6 after surgery. Initially your range and capability is very limited so prob just doing simple range of motion exercises - I showed some examples in week 5-6 videos. Bug again, check with your doctor and then follow your rehab protocol your PT gives you is safest way

Were you suffering from swelling where the tendon was sutured from the inside in the first weeks of rehabilitation?
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
yes, my entire foot was swelling quite visibly for the first 3 months.
@abdessamadaithajoub98
@abdessamadaithajoub98 Год назад
@@iamyulong I mean, the place where the tendon was ruptured was sutured. I have swelling over the place when I walk. When I walk on it, there is pain. Did the same thing happen to you? Thank you.
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
@@abdessamadaithajoub98 I see - not all the time, but my suture site hurts if I walk too much that day
@iamyulong
@iamyulong Год назад
and I don't think that part is particularly swelling after walking, at least not to my eyes

@@iamyulong Well, when I walk a long distance, it hurts. Is walking dangerous or not? Thank you for a speedy recovery, God willing
