Welcome back. Here is my first long haul flight since the pandemic hit the aviation industry badly. I always wanted to try Singapore Airlines long haul flight and experience their tip-top service. Singapore Airlines, being a five stars airline, does it really deserve the title? Watch my vlog and experience SQ's warmth and friendly hospitality. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel and give this video a "thumb-up" ❤ Happy Chinese New Year.
Completely agree, the catering such a miserable, no more hot towels, no more instant noodles in the mid flight and the snacks a miserable as well😢. I took the flight last august 2022
@@MargarethYap On my flights, many instant noodles were served. But it's true the hot towel, SQ Signature service in Economy Class was gone and the meal quality has dropped.
It`s good to see you flying long haul again Dragflyer, and you were so lucky to have the entire row to yourself. Disappointing that the catering isn`t to the standard it once was, but fortunately the crew still deliver their traditional hospitality.
Hi Pierre. So glad to see you dropping by again. Indeed I was so lucky to have the whole row. I was initially at the window seat and so many people eyeing on the aisle seat of my row. Luckily I manage to block it for my own sake. =D Hopefully SQ could look up to EVA or Starlux in terms of the inflight catering. It needs dire improvements.
I travelled LAX to SIN 2 weeks ago on its premium Econ- 3 classes aircraft. I ordered seafood meal and it was served without appetiser which was same as economy class meal. I’m very disappointed.
@@bobbylin5611 Oh no. At least they should provide an appetiser. If I were you, I would feel disappointed too. Paying the extra, though you enjoy the extra legroom and seat width, I'm sure if SQ is willing just to offer and provide a bit more, it could be a huge difference.
@@Dragflyer9669 I took a picture of the meal and made a complaint. I’m waiting SQ response. SQ does provide appetiser to its premium econ passengers however not to special meal passenger in premium econ or maybe the crew forgot.
I am a Singaporean and have always been very proud of Singapore Airlines and its slogan a GREAT WAY TO FLY ....with the amazing young, enthusiastic and attentive "Singapore Girl" in her Sarong Kebaya smiling charmingly as she goes round the world. True, competition has heated up, particularly with the Middle Eastern Airlines with great aircrafts, equally great meal choices (especially in Economy Class) and unparalleled pricing. After having flown with a myriad of different airlines across the globe in the last 2 decades, I do observe the slack in the soft touches of Singapore Airlines. Travelers are accustomed to the little details like real hot white towels, welcome drink as soon as the aircraft is in the air, snacks, lovely printed menu, in-flight magazines, daily newspapers.. and these are all gone (particularly after the Covid-19 Pandemic). Generally, the SIA service is still impeccable but other airlines are not far behind. Bring back all the soft touches if there is to be a difference. Even the lavatories are equipped with very basic amenities. I remember there used to be even orchid flowers in the economy class. What happened, SINGAPORE AIRLINES ? . Surely my comments and concerns are often reflected lately....
My recent trip to New York, SQ Business Class (Non Stop) was a disappointment. Plane was old and not that comfortable for the legs. No touch screen. Food selection can be better, too much of the hawker fares in the book the cook from SIN to JFK, and the food selection for JFK to SIN route is almost non existent. They only offered 1 small bottle of water the whole 19 hours other than during meal time. And everything else you want you have to approach them. Once lights off after the meals were served, it's hard to see them around. I have to "catch" them to ask for coffee (yes, they don't ask if you want coffee during meals), sock, slippers, snacks, more water etc...quite a frustrating experience. the flight attendants were missing most of the time. But to be fair, when you are able to get hold of the flight attendants, they are very pleasant and helpful. On the way back, the lounge at JFK airport for Business Class was a JOKE. It's a lounge that built like a cheap food court that served only 2 kind of cold sandwiches and a few types of nuts and chips, just ridiculous. And the toilets on the plane wasn't cleaned properly and reeked of urine stench (and I'm the first to use the toilet). I guess this reflects the level of service JFK airport hub provides. If there is a next time, I will book the SIN-FRT-JKF. Never again with this non stop flight. I too missed the old days, flying with SQ just isn't the same anymore. Bring back the hot towels, real orchids, mouth rinse, !!
Amazing video. For 15 mins, I did not take my eyes of the screen. Good camerawork and great editing, not forgetting the captions. Always wanted to see someone doing this route. Thank you for sharing your SQ experience. Long time subscriber, Fiji Islands
surprising to see i wasnt the only one that felt like the meal service of SQ should be improved because SQ has always been one of the highest rated airline according to the travellers.
I used to fly from Yangon, Myanmar to Singapore with Singapore Airlines. Unlike our National Airline, Singapore Airlines offers in flight entertainment and the meal service was better than our National Airline.
Very nice trip report... thanks for sharing...!! ( Must admit...that having myself flown SQ many times...am an absolute fan of their service...both on the ground and in the air...)... Good luck...!!
100% agree on the meals, really hope it can improve, on regional flight the local chicken rice without the usual chilli sauce for me is already unacceptable… it is nasi lemak without the sambal chilli.. not to mention the other meals I tried which is so so only…
Great video! Just returned from Seattle-Singapore trip via SQ27&SQ28 (A350-900). Agree with the decline in service and meal quality. Miss the pre-pandemic days. Hope they improve in the future!
Last time there is an appetiser. I miss those days when they handed out hot towel before departure. Thanks for the video. This help me consider if I wanna fly with SQ or UA for transpacific journey.
I recently flew to Bangkok on SQ. I pre-ordered SFML (Seafood meal) and was served stewed fish (SINBKK) and hor fun (BKKSIN). Both meals were excellent. Flight was very smooth. 5-star experience. Love you SQ!
Singapore Airlines is always my top preference whenever I fly to an fro Australia and Europe. Its true that the meals should be improved. At least other airlines provide a fruit platter, cake or starter. This meal tray looks too empty. Crew are still wonderful.
Finalmente un video in cui si vedono delle persone. Generalmente nei video dei voli si vedono quasi solo sedili, tavolini, oblo ' e quello che si mangia
Singapore Airlines concentrates more on their business and suites pax. They are the ones that generate the most profit so it’s common sense to provide them the best meals onboard.
Yeah. People care more about big fish. That’s the universal truth. But Singapore Airlines is always famous for its amazing service and product in all cabins. We are not requesting for caviar or anything fancy provided that we pay only “peanut” compare to those flying in premium class. It’s just what people concern on a long flight in the long run. It’s okay they ignore those feedback and keep using the reason of cost cutting is way too off the course. Wait until more and more passengers opt for the other airlines and giving others business, they will “awake”
@@Dragflyer9669 i Agree. I took this flight in Dec 22 and the service has dropped compared to the flights i have taken to Europe before Covid 19 days. If other airlines like Emirates fly from Singapore to LA, i will gladly take those flights. SIA has dropped massively. I remember my flight to Munich, there is very good food, Hagen Dazs ice cream, plenty of nice snacks at the side for a 12 hour flight. Now at 15 hour flight to LA, the standards have dropped. I hope Emirates or Eithad start on this route and put SIA on the edge.
@@sivaramlord9151 Agree with you too. I'm sure if EK starts operating the service from SIN to LAX, SQ will immediately roll out the so called new services (it's actually to improve but they make it as they do something new). Or, if Malaysia Airlines (MH), Thai Airways (TG) and Garuda start flying direct to the US, they will lose a lot of business for sure.
@@Dragflyer9669 Yes. We need more alternatives from ASEAN to have a direct flight to LA. SIA is very haughty over this. I take economy class for $1300 to $1400, cause i book 8 months in advance at least and their service dropped. i paid 900 for a flight to Munich before coivd days and the standard was so good. For me i need to travel as fast as possible, but when you pay so much, you wonder where is the good service.
@@Dragflyer9669 can’t wait for that day to come. They are charging fking ridiculous fares for these shit? Star Lux is one of the first few that’s gonna snatch their LAX SIN route and tpe route for sure. At this moment they cannot compete w them at all given the fares. They r slowly introducing more “appetisers” and services these few days.
SQ is amazing. I did the LAX-ICN (it's no longer available now) and LAX-NRT sectors for some times. Everything was fabulous. Hope to see the meals get improvements.
Unfortunately there is a big decline in terms of meal service on SQ flights - we frequently fly this airline ( in business or first/suite class) luckily crews are still adorable… but you definitely have to preorder your meals 5:59
It's okay. We all have different opinions as everyone defines "affordable", "overprice" and "service quality" differently. However, I would say that I agree with you too regarding the issue of "overpriced".
i had the exact same meals (chicken meatball pasta and fish with potatoes) and found them to taste really good on my flight. perhaps the vegetables weren’t seasoned well enough for your flight but yes, now there is no longer appetizers, tho they did increase the meal portion size for the mains. appetizers r only offered to premium eco pax.
I guess so. The rest are really good. Sad to see the go of appetiser. Yeap. I did realise the portion was a bit larger and that's indeed a great news for those huge eaters like me. =D Hopefully SQ will bring back those inflight catering during glory times. Thanks for dropping by.
You can hear the plane is using a lot more power and needs more speed to get off the ground. Listen to the whistling sound and a takeoff roll of 50 seconds.
I really wish that SQ could improve on the standard and portion of their Economy Class meals, just like how it was before covid :( Nice to see that the flight wasn't too full on this really long-haul flight. It's sure nice to have the extra space to stretch on such a long flight
Hi Isaac. Happy CNY. Seriously they need to improve. Other 4 @ 5 stars airlines are doing better from day to day and many hard products are brought back onboard too, except SQ. I can't deny that their service is still great, compare to EK and Qatar. The hot towel, good meals were their selling points before the pandemic. Hope to see SQ's improvement in the near future.
Lovely video, i was flying in Emrates for more then 12 years, i changed to SQ since last year i traveled Chennai singapore JFK via frankfurt and back , this year march Chennai Singapore EWR Singapore Chennai , next week Chennai Singapore Auckland Singapore Chennai, then in the month of August Chennai Singapore EWR all business class Yes SQ hosptality is much better then other airlines food quality came down for some reasons . anyways i enjoyed flying Singapore airlines.
I enjoyed flying SQ too. Wow! You have so many trips with Singapore Airlines. Envy you :) I just got back from Copenhagen on SQ as well. Things seem to be on the rise. SQ hospitality is indeed one of the best in the world, hopefully their food is slowly on the rise. Thanks for dropping by my channel
Very good review there! A 15 hour flight from SIN-LAX would be extremely tough for me especially in economy class. Inside the SQ A350 they have the live TV where you can watch Live sport, bbc news, nbc news, cnn news. I had experience flying the SQ A350 (Medium Haul) from SIN-CAN. There are major differences from the long haul and medium haul A350 aircraft - seat configuration, seat trim, tv screens, entertainment. When I flew the A350 (Medium range) it didn’t have livr TV, but at least you get a choice of music, movies, tv shows, podcasts and more! The in flight map on the medium haul A350 displayed innovative features including the latitude and longitude, tail rego, flight number, date of flight. Fun fact: the entertainment screen in medium haul a350 is Thales, while the Long haul and ultra long haul a359 is Panasonic ex3 (with live tv).
Thanks for dropping by mate. I wasn't aware of the difference in mid-haul and long-haul A350's entertainment screen. Next time I should pay attention to it. It's true that this flight is tough, luckily I could sleep for some hours. The returning LAX-SIN would be even longer 16:30 hours close to 17 hours.
True. I still had some pictures of those back in 2015, 2018. You can find a fruit platter, cake besides the main course. The one we have now is really disappointing.
@@Dragflyer9669 Indeed…you are correct. The airline is back to making good profit but is cutting back on catering in the economy class. I flew on Turkish Airlines & their economy class catering is way better & probably the best in the industry.
The old business class seats were MUCH BETTER, you slept upright and not on your side, you end up with hip pain, and the flight from Los Angeles to Singapore, which was ALL business class, was wonderful, I don't know why they cancelled it, and where did they leave those wonderful seats?
I would refuse to put my window shade down as I purposely seek out a window seat and I want to look out anytime day or night. That flight attendant can go and take a hike.
For short flight you can do it as you wish. For long flight, shutting the window shade is to give all the passengers in the cabin a better atmosphere to rest, also to adjust to the destination time. Wouldn't it better if passengers can rest or sleep since they flight hours are long. If you insist, try to do that on a long haul flight and see what would be the reaction of other passengers. No surprise if they treat you as if you were a "KAREN". Sometimes, a little common sense with brain can bring a passenger goes far.
@@Dragflyer9669 Full flight going and not returning. There were some rows towards the back of the plane that were empty so that people could sleep in the middle rows.
Good video. Its sad how far Singapore Airlines has fallen. The service and product are no longer leaders. So many other airlines offer better service and products for less money.
SIA always has a special place in my heart. But that's still the truth and am sad to hear that as well. Sometimes I'm tempted to go for other competitive asian-based carrier such as EVA, Cathay and Starlux.
It’s true. Singapore airline is not 5 stars. Flight attendance ,services is far behind other Asian airlines. SÀ Food also bad. I choose SA if flights below 5 hours. If longer flight, there are many better choices. Japan airline, Ana, Korean Airline, even Eva or Vietnam Airline also better.
Well. If i compere these meals here with the cat portions that Qatar recently served on my economy flight from Berlin via Doha to Melbourne than this here is way better. Even the toilettes look better and cleaner than in our runned down 777-300 ER.
I hope so too! SQ right now has almost 3 flights to LAX with 2 direct and 1 via Narita. US is an important market to SIA. Thanks for dropping by my channel.
I 100% agree that their food is downgrading. I’m not sure why. I flew London to Singapore and got served rice, fish, sambal and vegetables. The vegetables had this weird gelatine thing on top that tasted of nothing. Then before landing for breakfast, I had noodles that were hard, solid and crunchy. You could literally pick up all the noodles in one go with a fork. Absolutely disgusting! I did a trip report on that flight so u can check it out if u wish. Best food experiences I had on any airline is Malaysia Airlines and Etihad. Great food!
Although there is room for SQ food to improve, I still gladly appreciate for what they have. I do agree as well, some flights, depending on the outbound port and catering services, the food quality vary as well. Usually flight to and fro like ICN, TPE, HKG, CPH and others, food are usually good. Last month I flew with Qatar, the food was great. Hopefully SQ can have that standard as well. :)
For the short haul flight less than 3 hours, meal in box served onboard, poor quality & small quantity, make me less interest to fly SQ again in future.
Seriously. I have the same thought as well. I may lower down my expectations, but the small meal box portion makes me wanna have even more. If I'm not mistaken, flights to Bangkok and Taipei on 787-10 and 350, passengers were also served in those small meal box? If it's true, that's really unlikely to get my disapproval.
I fly this route at least three times a year.. depending on the time of the year i would fly in econ or business class...I would say food quality has gone down a bit at all classes but i can blame it more on the global economy more due to cost of materials has gone up alot around the world
Thanks for SQ review. We are looking for an airline with value for money - with better service, comfort, and quality inflight food. SQ, Cathay pacific ,Qatar airline and PAL are on our list for consideration.
Hi, when you stated “Here is my seat for the next 15 hours…”, I completely feel you my brother…😩. You ask yourself, what were they smoking when the manufacturers designed these planes and also their customer airlines who purchased these planes… PEA BRAINS! right? How can a person be expected to last in these seats that won’t recline that much (probably only a few inches or so), unable to stretch your legs, unable to comfortably sleep in a fully reclined position or enough that your head stays back instead of landing on the shoulder of the passenger sitting next to you or drop forward as if you were knocked out unconscious by an unknown force… 👽😂😂😂👽. Logic dictates that every person should have enough space to be reasonably comfortable so that you can go to sleep easily and not feel the PAIN of sitting in this position for 15 LOOOOOOONNNNGGGG HOURS which amounts to torture! YES, I SAID TORTURE AND IT IS EXACTLY THAT… A TORTURE. If someone is put in a situation or position in which it gives them discomfort/pain/stress, and it is undignified, unhealthy, painful, inconsiderate, disrespectful, this is called a torture. Yet, airlines continue to run their business in this way… Most airlines make their money from first class seating + CARGO. Other classes really don’t matter much. This is not where they make their money. So, why don’t they give better seating to the rest of the passengers in the loser class? Why the greed factor? I REJECT THIS WAY OF RUNNING A BUSINESS! If they want their airlines to stand for something and be different from all the rest, and stand out and set a new standard especially when it comes to these long haul flights, then, they need to think differently… Why do we put ourselves through this torture knowing in our hearts and in our minds that IT IS ALL WRONG ?
This video showed me a disappointing flight, compared to my experiences 5-8 years ago. At that time they were the best airline in my view. Seems to be just good average now?
Indeed 5-8 years ago was far better; however, up to now, to me, they are still one of the best in the industries. Things start to take a turn for the better now.
On my Turkish airline flight they gave me a bag with socks, sandals, eye mask, ear cover and headphones. This was in the economy. Do they give you something like this here too? If not, I’ll just bring my own cause that was so useful
Before pandemic, yes. They actually still offered, upon request. Ear plug, eye mask, socks are also on request. Sandals, you might have to bring your own.
I flew SIA in 2019 from heathrow to singapore to seoul, dissapointed to hear standards are dropping. Also very good video quality even on 1080p, can I know which camera you use?
True. I got your words. Malaysia Airlines is our national pride. We love it and of course we would like to see it performs on the par and competitively with the other airlines, keeping the standard high like CX, SQ, TG, JX. I miss those time when MH used metal cutlery and flight to and fro Kuching served "Nasi Lemak" or "Beef" which were so tasty.
This is always a bittersweet flight for me because it means I will be leaving my Singaporean friends. Oh well. Until next time. I can't imagine taking this flight in Economy. The extra money for Premium Economy is well worth it.
@@Dragflyer9669 For me it's not so much the seat width but the console between the seats so you're not elbow-to-elbow with the person next to you. Then there's also a better seat pitch in PE than just Economy.
Thanks for the video. I read some of the comments that service standard has dropped. This is rather qualitative comments and it would be helpful to quote examples. Not working for SQ by the way😂. Personally, I don’t see their standard dropping in terms of service standard. But I do agree with their “box meal” service, it does look cheaper. But in reality, the cost of the box meal vs the previous method may be similar, or even more expensive. Presentation wise, I strongly agree that it’s inferior. I guess somehow, the airline would need to come up with something to eradicate this perception. As for food taste, I personally feel this is rather subjective and there are a number of hits and misses recently when I fly with them. Anyway, thanks for the content and it was well curated.
Thanks for your comments and your time watching my video. I still love SQ a lot. Their crew are simply the best. Hope to see SQ getting back to those glory time. Heard that the hot towel service is back in economy class, not sure if it's real.
I still want to try SQ long haul. I flew EVA in PE from SF to BKK in January. The seats are getting old. On the return leg from Taipei a metal support bar was digging into my back (I had to use the provoded pillow as lumbar support). The catering ranged from decent (on the TPE-BKK legs) to atrocious (last leg from TPE to SFO) where chicken and pasta was dry and inedible, or a pork and rice dish where the rice was cooked wrong.
@@valentinalicheli1928 give it a try on 21st March. Singapore Airlines is different from those major European or American carriers which charge passengers for almost anything. Whiskey, Gin are also available :) Have a great flight.
Long flight 15 hours, offered only 2 meals. Food was bad. If you need a drink or snack during flight, you have to ask for it. Service was decline. No more fly Singapore for me. I ll try Starlux Airline. It will be Emirate of Asia..
Hi! I saw your comment about how they got rid of their footrests….Do you happen to know if aircrafts SQ 35 and SQ 12 had these taken away too? Was hoping to not have to pack a travel footrest! Thank you!
Hi. sorry for the late reply. As far as I know SQ35 is operated by A350-900 (in the video), all the footrest were removed. As for SQ12, I'm afraid that I couldn't give u the accurate info because I haven't been flying on B773ER for quite a long time. I think probably it's removed as well since they did it on all the A350 fleet. Hope it helps.
and singing Merry Christmas. That kid was so happy. Glad that throughout the flight he was very well behaved, only singing upon the plane touched down.
This flight touch down in LAX and the sky would be pitch black. Unless you fly during summer time. Get a seat on left window (according to flight radar 24)
Many reviewers were disappointed about it. Sad to say, SQ hardly listen to economy passengers' advise. Unless they feel the pinch due to nearby rivalry airlines.
