A good trick for identifying these when you don't have a camera is to use the cockpit LCD. Set it to show details of your target lock, then get a lock on the grid. The grid name will give you an idea of what it is.

thanks for there videos, esp this one! I recently started play SE on PS5, and whilst there are a lot of videos on starting out... my issue recently (after getting to space) has been "Now what?", but this video, highlighted the randoms encounters, and what to expect ... so I thought...lets see if I can find one? it was great, I knew to take care... and sneaked in, on. a mayday with a turret, and have now spent an evening as a salvage ship (using my landing gear lol) dragging my gains back to my asteroid base.... so thanks for showing the way :) btw: as you progress, perhaps its an idea to focus on what there is to be done (mid-game?) ... I mean, Im in space, got a small base on earth, and an asteroid... found some platinum, got access to most resources, found economy stations done a few searches. but no sign of uranium, and the moon seems to far to get too... also, on console, we don't have the good mods so we cannot do the popular scenarios.. (scrapyard etc), or add more npc fighting. so what next? I think it's this mid-game where there are not so many videos... apart from shipbuilding. e.g. at what point should I consider building a large grid ship? anyway, thanks again, great videos - and in particular this one, gave me something new and fun to try !

Loving this series, just recently started learning SE and your videos have helped immensely. I got two questions, 1: Do asteroids have just spots of ice on them or do you ever run into just a giant ball of ice, 90% or better ice asteroid? 2: Say you scrapped that dead ship and this base and you load your Rhincodon completely full up then head back to the planet, what are your chances of crashing with your ship overloaded and would the parachute help with that? I only ask cause the noob that I am, I keep overloading my atmo mining ship and crashing when it doesn't respond fast enough.

I think you may have blown the RNG widget entirely to pieces with those two amazing bits of luck, well done.

Been following your guides on how to build a mining ship, and am currently building my own carrier to carry a space-faring mining ship at the back of the carrier. Encounters are underrated to be fair, but also overpowered in some degree. As a Survival series, however, this is fair game, because you don't want to take out the hassle out of building your own space-faring station or ship, when there's something already available (for free, with caveats).
