Thank you for sharing your adventures in Sapa! Let's look at it from a different perspective. Selling the handmade goods is probably the only income these folks generate. They rely on tourism to feed their families. To some people, the constant and relentless pressure to push a sale may be bothersome and diminishes the overall experience of being there. It is a momentary inconvenience to tourists but it is the livelihood of the local folks. They're just trying to earn an honest living to feed their families. We are blessed to be able to travel to different places and enjoy good foods. They feel blessed just to be able to feed their families. What would you do if you were a local?

totally agreed! If I were a local living in such condition, I would have been doing the same by trying to stay alive. Going back to Vietnam makes me appreciate the tiny things in life and understand the hardships others are going through. Talking to a local who described his work, it appears to me he is doing janitorial or cleaning the supermarket after it is closed, and he said he makes about $15 USD a day by working 7 hours? let's just say he is lucky to work 5 days a week. So in a month he makes about $300 USD. It is insane what he makes in a month is equivalent to what I make in 2 hours. That's why for those of you who are able to and willing to help when visiting the undesire part of Vietnam, to help those who are much less fortunate.. I know I get ripped off by 10-20x. but I look at helping someone to feed their family 10 fold whether it is putting food on the table or buying medicine. The several hundred or thousand you spend can be made up in a few hours, days, or a week. It is not to say it is easy to make money in the US. It is easy depending on what you do but more importantly is how lucky you are in life. You have to understand the struggles these locals are facing every day and how difficult for them to make that hard earn income.

They only trade to earn money to live, people should not put too much weight on that, when you are born in their difficult situation, you will understand, if you like it, then buy it if you don't like it, it's a bit difficult. Just bear with it for a bit, it's okay, wish you both a happy trip.🥰👌

You are the man David!!! I love your vlogs dude. I really respect the way you handle things every where you go. You make it look so easy and you are genuine too. I always feel happy and glad the way you say no to people who are after something mainly money and you stay focused on you vlog and don’t dwell on the negative. Thanks for sharing your visit to Sapa. It is 1 of 4 places as part of a Vietnam tour package that is run from Australia. The local women vendors remind me of our Bali holiday many moons ago where they followed us for literally 2 blocks before giving up. Understand COVID has adversely affected tourism all over the world and sadly those who depend on tourism suffer the most. Did Wendy try a joint? She looked a bit high lol

I bought a pouch from a hmong villager but refused yo go into Sapa itself. Stayed up in d town n bought a coke in a restaurant with a back verandah n watched thr farmers below.

Best thing for the locals is alongside Vnese schools they need to invest in schools for the hmong language. That way they can develop without the fear of loosing themself in the process.

David, you did Sapa but not "Ha Giang Loop"? I skipped Sapa for the precise reasons you noted, and too many tourists. You should vlog 'Ha Gaing Loop", it is freaking amazing. I did the 3D/2N Easy rider.

This was in April/May which is pretty hot weather but sadly we still got the bad weather. I hear late September to October is the best time to go

My friends and I were just there 2 weeks ago. We rented a tuktuk instead of walking with a tour guide because it is a long walk from the town center. I just don't like it when the locals don't leave you alone especially when you already said no. I understand that they are just trying to make a living, but this kind of experience ruins our trip. Instead of us trying to take pictures and enjoying the beautiful landscapes, we were always getting bothered by them.

@@davidkhai Sorry to make my woke guy, but u have to ask urself one question, how many dong come to minority when u travel in Sapa ? The bus ... owned by vietnamese compagny, the restrant the hotel in sapa town , at 99% it's owned by vietnamese, for street sellers it's almost the only source of income for survive . If i can humbly give somes tips, avoid sleep in sapa town, go trek with an local owned/ ethical compagny or speak with one the street sellers, ask them to spend one or two night in their villages, pass the time with them and i think u will discover the "real" sapa. Btw enjoy ur trip and thx for ur video.

Correction on pronunciation it's not Huh-Hmong. Simply just Hmong. This seems to be a common mistake often made in Vietnam when mentioning the Hmong tribe.

Your tour guide is pronouncing the word Hmong word. The H sound is silent. You would pronounce it as “Mong.” You pronounced it correctly.

That guide is such a scam. He seems to have a beggars network. Doesn’t even speak Hmong once. And it’s not even pronounced Ha-Mong. It’s more pronounced Mong

Wow, glad I never visited Sapa. I have the same experience being born in Vietnam and feel the guilt , but there is only a certain amount you can take. Tour guides should be more aggressive at keeping them away.

David my boy, calm down... they're just children, they're not from the wild bwahahahahaha! crazy Japanese hahaha! Anyway, I was kind of surprised and not so surprised to see they have their own rice terraces which I would venture to say, was copied from the Mountain Province of the Philippines. I said I wasn't surprised because I believed a few decades ago, say in the 60s'-70s'. the Philippines was the biggest rice producer in Asia and a lot of people from different parts of Asia came to the Philippines to learn the Filipino ways of rice farming. The rice terraces of the Philippines were invented/started by the Ifugao, a native tribe of Baguio who built them 2000 years ago. I believe they can speak Vietnamese since they live in Sapa. Your tour guy should have told them to back off. They're poor, they only trying to make living

As a Vietnamese i totally agree, they are a nightmare!! Vietnam is a beautiful country, but the beggars in Sapa are the WORSE!! My family is scared to go to Sapa because of this, when we donate to one beggar, other starts swarming and asking for money!! Thank you for pointing this out so visitors can be aware before visiting this place in my country :)
