But I dont admire her money management skills. She once owned a condo but chose to blow all her money renting in private rather than buying a hdb studio which she could afford and was eligible based on her age.
@@lindc1070, This is the reason for her present predicament. Many people will plan to avoid this kind of predicament. I notice that a lot of people get into a pickle bcs of wrong decisions. I don't want to be homeless at half her age. Why did she sell her home to start a biz at an advanced age? She had not been practical or realistic. If she had planned well she could be living a fab life now.
@@thescribe7117 exactly. In Singapord those who end up homeless either made very bad decisions or have mental illness. I think Darius does as he cant follow any rules. The govt heavily subsidises hdb, a studio with shorter lease is quite affordable and older folks are eligible. Or get a brand new 2 room from hdb.Subsidies make it very affordable.
@@lindc1070 I agree. Life in Sg seems untenable to me so I guess the stress gets to some people like Darius who should live in a laid-back country. When I was watching Md Yeo's segment I was thinking if she had bought a studio hdb after selling her private condo then use the balance to do her biz I guess she wouldn't be in this quandary even if she had lost all her investments. In fact I was surprised that at such a late age she still had the thought of going into a full-blown biz with such a big investment. At this age by right she should not need to work if she had planned well since I think she does not have children. Also it is not for us to say but I was wondering what's behind that boyfriend story? In such a relationship would an older woman's interests be a man's top priority, especially if he's younger. Could he have caused her to be so reckless with her decision to sell her private condo, pouring all the money realised into the new biz? I think her story has a behind-the-scenes reality Lolz *shaking my head*.
Mdm Yeo has such a positive spirit and just seemed like a genuinely kind and nice person. I hope she and mr ho manage to find a rental flat and spend the rest of their lives happily with each other. As for Tok and Roslan, I hope they could somehow resolve their differences or if not just move on as strangers since they won’t be living together anymore. However I do think the shelter or that Edward guy could’ve installed cctvs to find out who is lying instead of evicting Tok right away. It’s unfair to him if he is indeed innocent.
you can tell Roslan is the one lying. If Mr Tok had hit him that would have been bruises. at their old age signs of a fight are easy to investigate. the edward guy is definitely bias without doing any actual investigation
Hmm, in my opinion, it's not really about who's lying; especially since in conflicts usually everyone is right, if that makes sense. Everyone is just 'reacting' based on their realities and difficulties/ stresses, so it's not fair to imply that one person is totally at fault, because we all have a role to play in triggering each other. What's more important to me is having them both take responsibility for managing their anger at each other.
I really feel for the mom and her 2 children. How can you kicked your flesh and blood out their home. The mom she is awesome she's there withe her children and not abandon them. Still cook for them like a happy family even facing life obstacles. Her uplifting spirit for her children is more then words can say. I hope all of the people on this documentary are doing well.
the mother should b grateful that she's in Singapore and being looked after, in her native filipines she would just be treated like another worthless person on the road
@@kyogofurahashi Totally. I'm amazed with the support the family is getting in Singapore. In Canada, they would have been living in a tent out on the street.
The care and humanity with which homeless people are provided for is absolutely amazing. Some kind of holiday shelter should be available for those who aren't allowed in from 7 am to 7 pm.
singapore is very hard working people, they are also very disciplined and Conservative. It is not run by bullshit liberals. You behave yourself singapore is a nice place to live. The homeless is only 600 population of like 5.4 million people. San Francisco has like 38k homeless and less than 1 million people live there. but that place is run by liberals.
This is very sad! My heart just breaks seeing this. I am South African citizen, I worked in Singapore many years ago. Its such a beautiful state and when I was there, there were no homeless people. Its so sad to see people there without a home. I can only pray that the Singapore government (which has always been a very good one) will assist homeless people to be housed. I wish I were there to also help and assist in whatever way I can. Maybe I will do that in the near future.
Darius is so young and he shouldn't continue like this forever! His journey ahead is way so long and hope he will work slightly harder to fix things up!
Darius is so much like my 2nd son who has 2nd child syndrom. I really feel for Darius. With love and attention, he will discipline himself. Take care dear❤
Bless these people. No one asks to homeless. People who work on these areas are doing their best. I feel for the elderly who are homeless. They should be given a higher priority, including families. I think there should be places that the government sets up that are run by homeless people for the homeless. This will give them a chance to work and earn their way. Many of these people are hard working and have skills, we should provide a safe space for them to do this. Bless them all and I hope they all find permanent homes soon. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
Being homeless is a tough situation. My family and I were homeless in my last year of school. Financial problems. My mom had borrowed money for friends who promised to pay her back, they never did. Family never helped. A few friends helped but only for a short time and because money ran out. These were people that my mother helped often. It was a tough year. God is faithful. I managed to finish school with all that stress and get a job and place to stay for me and family. We started over. We had lost and sold everything. The most painful thing was giving our dog away. He cried so much. 22 yrs later I still cry when I think of him, that hurt the most.
Yeah I'm from South Australia and was homeless in Melbourne Victoria for 3 years on the street so I can relate to these people and I really feel for them, I pray that God helps them like how he's helped me, amen. ♥🥰
Those churches in Singapore... .... are not to be expected like those churches in your country. There are fake Christians out there but... ... the situation in Singapore WILL VERY LIKELY be rather... ... concentrated. Hahahahahahahahaha... ... Singapore will need someone who can handle the mess to be in power to do anything; but that's very unlikely. Loong's situation means... ... the next PM hence the team for the job and hence the government HRM down to the bottom will be those parasites who can't function proper, if they even move in the first place. Isn't that so obvious after all these years. Nay.... ... after all these decades? Just compare the current PAP to the PAP when Lee Kuan Yew and Toh Chin Chye and Goh Keng Swee were running about to set things up... ... and weed out those f-kers to the current bunch. Not hard to see eh... ... In real, basically... ... PAP itself will have to first revitalised before you can expect any 'help'. It is a complete mess right now. So... ...
Darius may have some unresolved issues in his background that's why he is like that. When parents can so easily kick their kid out like that suggests possible lack of emotional attachment and possible abuse/neglect. I hope he finds his way through his storm without too much self destruction. Kids who join gangs are often searching for family, love and attachments they didn't receive at home. But Nabilah and Raihan are some real nice kids, a true testament to their mother's loving nature and hardwork. Allah bless her through them and Allah bless them both in all that they do.
Jesus is king and the only way. Turn to him to be saved. Believe in him and receive salvation. ✝️🕊️🙏🏼✨ Look up testimonies of muslims and everyone and near death experiences. He is returning for the rapture. People are having rapture dreams. Don’t be left behind. Don’t go to hell.
After 23 years in PH, I don't get why Tok decides to return to SG. He could retire there with monthly CPF payout 890/month. HE have aa house and a daughter there.
1, his time is up - he is returning home 2, he can live comfortably once he got his HDB rental flat. He might be gaming the system to get the HDB rental flat by going "homeless". But the governement intentionally makes it hard for people who want HDB rental flats.
This Tok guy I have seen him around the area I live. This video is painting rosy impressions of him. Have seen him sitting in hawker with bottle of tiger beer keep staring at woman before.
@@novicenovice8780i can feel too he is in difficult situation but he don't want to faith .his ego bigger than his money .i can feel his arrogant.sorry if i am wrong.
@@SAMart758yes Tok is arrogant. Only want crane lifter job. Come on he need to realised he can work as packer,in fastfood or work at Giants & etc. The cert he showed is too old already. Probably about 10 years ago. He is still healthy but decided to be so choosy of his situation. Rather than thinking of your own child,he think that the only job he can do.
890 a month in Philippines for 1 person should be sustainable, but you cant be a king with that money, believe me Also he is not a Philippine citizen and most probably getting a visa is quite an issue too. Aside from that he needs to pay tax as he is a foreigner. I think he still prefer to live in his own country as his wife is already gone.
Probably he came back to SG hoping that he can bring his children there. Unfortunately, his circustamces made it impossible. I wish I'm rich enough to help. 😢
I have difficulty empathizing with Darius. He seems to have difficulty adhering to rules. And what was he doing outside after 10.30pm? Anyway, he is already suffering the consequences, so no judgement. On the other hand, i iust feel for Nabillah and Raihan. The siblings and mum were under tremendous stress from a controlling dad. And they were forced out of their house. And they seem to be real fine kids. Aiyoh.
Looks like Darius may have ADHD and/or mental illness. His behaviour needs to be diagnosed and he may need medication to moderate his extreme impulses. I know becase i know a boy just like that. Medication helps but often they also refuse to take it 🤦♀️.
it is good thing to know the "HIDDEN SIDE" of any country. Once I thought that SG do not have this kind of homeless problem and was eager to go work there one day. Now I feel bless and appreciate everything I have😅
Kind of a weird take as every country in the world has a homelessness problem, even your own country and SG is one of the countries with the lowest % of homeless people in the world.
I hope Singapore Gov can provide a safety net for its most vulnerable citizens. Nothing fancy to encourage laziness, just somewhere to turn to during a time of crisis in this very prosperous country. I applaud CNA for paying attention to this social issue.
People really think this is like a reality tv show saying that the guy is favoured by Edward or wtv… the shelter would definitely have done their investigation and confirmed the incident before kicking anyone out… both parties at fault but no way there isnt some truth to the incident if it led to Mr Tok getting kicked out…
I am grateful to be an Indonesian, in my country poor & neglected parents are provided with a special place with 3x free meals & cared for until they die without the slightest cost
Here in my country.. much worse.. Homeless people doesnt have any chance to find shelter.. except maybe their families or friends or neighboors or random kind hearted people helping them to settle "for a while".. which is very rarely to be happen.. No shelter place for homeless people in my country.. What i see in this documentary.. Singapore shelter have so much better housing than over half population in my country.. So if any of them feel ungrateful for whatever it's situation in shelter.. well really i'm speechless..
I have watched many reports on homelessness that is a global phenomenon. They never interview the homeless people what they need. I like to hear from them directly. I asked some of them in NYC in 2017. They wanted jobs, highly paid ones in partucular.
I never though that there are homeless people and there is also poverty in Singapore. That what I knew is that Singapore a very rich first class country.
Technically as a Singaporean I’m homeless in Singapore too due to a bitter divorce and my ex not abiding my the judges rule to sell the house and return and CPE monies.. as a result, I’m living overseas where my salary can afford me a shelter over my head and food to eat at a fraction of the price of what the rental and living costs is in Singapore
It really reminds me of Taiwan. I do miss living there It's the organization and the peacefulness of living there Working there is very stressful but living there is quite good
The uncle got evicted because of Roselan, why did the management decide so quickly to evict him? Nv talk out first? Or is it because Roselan volunteered to look after the place they sided him. Just doesn't make sense.
Roselan is clearly doing something to improve his living situation by working 12 hours a day. The old uncle is nice, but dude is a typical choosy boomer who prefers to relax instead of taking on whatever jobs available. I too would've picked Roselan in a heartbeat.
@@DreamyCheshire-up9rfhe kept bringing up asthma. Tok can go off. Useless bum old man. So arrogant. Nitpick the social staff. Staff has to fork out for his luggage rental. Only want crane lifter job. Hello Tok,you how old? Crane lifter need good eyesight. He can't even walk properly.
I also am persplexed as to why hdb has such long waiting period for rental flats. I live not far from a rental block. Often i see many units are not occupied. Whats going on ?
@@zarine1958if you're so concerned, have you actually at least check via the proper channels, rather than asking here where no one can give you a real answer?
Poor Darius. The way he "hmm" every time the worker asked him a question was sad. He's just a boy and he needs help and probably someone caring for him.😢 Where is his family anyway?
Pikapi, Your empathies seem misplaced. Darius seems to be a grown man. He comes across as a bum. Imagine earning sgd500 a month in 2023. Yet he has a girlfriend??? Lolz the girl must be blind!!! If you can't follow rules like Darius/want a clean new nice place like Roselan/want to live alone like Mr Tok or the old pakcik then you must have plenty of dough. This is tough Singapore,a demanding city state where money is everything. You need charity you shut up and just follow the rules of those who offer help. If you can't you pack up and ship out to live on the streets. Poor and needy yet so demanding!!!
Don't understand, Roselan can earn $20+ a day working 12 hours food delivery. Why doesn't he go work at fast food restaurants where he can easily earn much more? Fast food restaurants pay $6 per hour or more?
I hope all these homeless people in SG find a forever shelter. It is difficult to be homeless. Here in America, we have a lot of homeless people but this is so because they are hooked on drugs for most of them & refuse to get help.
🙏 Rules and regulations are needed to run shelter homes. 🙏 Everyone using the shelters need to put some volunteered hours to keep the place neat, clean and tidy. 🌻🌻🌻
I wonder if the rules in the shelter are the same as in america Because from what I understand a lot of people who have options for shelters. They don't want to go there because they can't bring pets or they can't bring the girlfriends or whoever. I don't see that is being an issue. The rooms are small. I would imagine if you're living in a shelter in america They probably don't have the space for a pet In that case, keep in track of them and giving them to a non killed shelter would probably be the best until you could get your pet back
There's a very fine thin line between accepting your fate so you can move forward in life and getting used to your circumstances then never moving on from there. Most of them are in the 2 category & clearly doesn't have anyone significant in their life to help them believe that change is possible. Material gains can only go so far as harsh as it may sound. They need to trigger a change and endure that short period of suffering to move foward. That's how harsh life is and it's not any easier here in Singapore since humans are the only main resource.
Mr. Tok is very shrewd. He obviously can live very well in the Philippines but his CPF is going to run out in a few years. Can tap on medisave for his asthma which maybe could cost him more in cash in Philippines?
Can you sell your HDB if you do not own it? Isn't it true that every Singaporean is given two chances to apply for a HDB that is 99 years? There are plenty of 999 or free hold house that you can buy if you are able to. Who is stopping you?
I have come across some folks who live in one room rental flats. Some can be quite sad while others are well taken care off, either through financial aids by government and private organisations. Seen many squandered their money on liquor (get drunk), smoke or buying lottery. Makes you wonder if there are real poverty around. With regards to homelessness, I feel for them but at the same time, some of their issues are self created through making bad decisions or having social personality problems. With all the help rendered to them by the various agencies, hopefully it will give them a head start for a better future ahead. As in everything, it has to start from self and how determined one is to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
Spooner Road. Old KTM Flats for their Staffs working in T.Pagar Railway. Now a Rented Flat for the underprivilage, social problems community. And not forgetting Haunted during the Nights. Take it or leave it.
I feel that although he has not adhere the rules ,but to kick him out is too harsh for him, he need someone to care for him , to counseling him, as there will less homeless outside. I don't think he want to be homeless, poor thing.😢I hope the centre can think about a solution instead of kicking out, in this city, there's no sympathy and always get kick out!
Pretty sure all the people who got into the shelters have social workers working with them. And the would have recommended any available counselling or assistance programs, that's the best they can do, they cannot force their clients to go. I know because I have an ill and handicapped parent, social workers will come personally to inform us of assistance programs and give us the application forms. Ultimately whether we sign up or not is dependant on ourselves.
Wow so intrusive looking through their fridge and cupboards they store their personal items,so silly forcing people to apply as a twosome but only provide one bedroom housing smh 😳
Actually the whole hdb rental scheme needs to be revamped and dragged into the new century. The old system harks back to the 60s and 70s. Society has changed a lot since then. Social and mental health issues have also increased. As a nation we cannot let children or people with unintended disadvantages fall through the cracks. Housing is an essential need.
Sad how an 81 year old living with such uncertainty also her social worker indicated she would be reviewing her employment. How is she expected to work at 81. Sad for all on this video…
singapores are highly-organized people. their system for homeless seem to go well. after all they are the richest people in whole asia. they have enough money to provide homeless with whatever they need to make ends meet.
A few years ago Singapore showed their country as Country of dreams and heaven with no slums or homeless or beggers. Now the reality of Singapore and it's life is being shown that it's not less to any of they under developed countries. When Singaporeans go to other countries they always take pictures of homeless, poor , slums and show to the world but they forget that their country is also same as others
I think the definition of homeless is a little broad here. The "homeless" in this documentary do not own a physical home, but they don't sleep on the streets, like the homeless in other countries. There are still real homeless people sleeping on the streets in SG, but it's so rare compared to other countries.
