And away we go again guys! Sorry this took a while but here we go with more directors commentaries - and although I have done one for the Amazon before I have now re-done it with new interviews, this time including my long standing editor and camera op Max Atwood. I'm working on walking my way through all the seasons doing directors commentaries for them all including Bigfoot and Beyond Survival. So make sure you subscribe so you know when I am uploading them - which should be always on Fridays.

I was thinking about it, and I cant think of another person who has transferred from TV to RU-vid and I think you did it in the best way. I have no idea how you kept the rights to your show but putting them on RU-vid was fantastic. And the idea to do directors commentary was something I didn't even know that I wanted to watch. Great job keep the directors commentary coming.

I grew up watching Survivorman and nothing that came after it could compare. I still to this day keep orange garbage bags fire starting material (lighter, matches, striker, etc), and a multi tool in my vehicle for emergency. Never needed any of them, but you never know. Thanks Les!

When I was a kid, I loved watching the old documentaries on Amazon African and Indonesian tribes ... Can't find them anymore these days. Watching those people build things and work with their hands was always so impressive to me.. I think my love for those documentaries is what made me love and respect survivorman so much.. I wish I knew where to find those old 50s to 70s films on indigenous people.

_This whole directors cut with commentary is awesome entertainment!_ _If you do not have any option to have a firearm, WHAT would be the very best weapon to serve you in pure survival against a large jaguar?_ _An 8 foot long spear? A large fixed blade knife? Bear Mace?_ *(I feel like an angry wild predator cat could tear a human apart faster than any wolf or even mid size bear! Cats can be absolutely ferocious, and are unbelievably fast moving!)*

I missed this episode, so did as you advised and watched it before coming back to this Director's Cut. Back in a former life, I spent a long time living in and around the rainforest of Far North Queensland (Aust). I was partially self-sufficient for a while, living on coconut, fish, forest fruits, and staples from the trading post at the closest village, a two day walk away. I have been devouring your content because you are genuine. Some of the stuff you do, I have done back in the early 80s but I also learn something new every time I watch one of your survival adventures. And I LOVE learning new things. As for the flies. I learned that Amazon flies are like outback flies in Australia. Friends of humans forever LOL. I loved the butterflies chasing your salt though. That's cool. Oh, and where I lived, all I had to worry about were crocs on the coast, wild pigs in the forest, and the other Aussie rainforest people eaters. No Jaguars though, thank the animal gods.

Oh man, I just remembered of the story of Antonio Sena, a brazilian pilot who survived a plane crash in the middle of the Amazon jungle in 2021, and had to walk through the jungle for 36 days until he found help. It's a fascinating story of survival and this episode of Survivorman helps to picture the grueling conditions of a survival situation in the jungle. And the show also makes the details of his ordeal very vivid. And he probably made it only because he had some knowledge of survival skills and also some familiarity with the Amazon jungle. He barely ate, and he did only by fruits that he knew or that he saw monkeys eating. And he made very good decisions. Hope you also find his story fascinating, Les. And thank you Les for all the work you have done.

I knew the show was the real deal on the 1st episode. I like how it was just him by himself with his cameras just showing what you would do to survive when you're all alone in the wilderness lost. I used to watch every episode back when it was on cable. Now I don't have cable anymore, so I go back and watch old episodes on RU-vid. I swear RU-vid is the best because it's real people putting out real content. 🍿😊❤️‍🔥

As a retired CAF SAR Tech I can say much of my training allows me unique insight into just what Les Stroud was doing. I truly appreciate his expertise in a survival situation. One thing I really like about Les is that he doesn't take credit for everything. He gives credit where it's due. I saw one of his reaction videos on another channel where he's talking about, if you wanna gather wild edibles, make sure you learn in person from someone who really knows their stuff. It sounds like he's plugging himself as a survival instructor, but yet he goes into talking about how when he's gathering mushrooms, he makes sure to bring experts along with him, not just relying on his own knowledge. It just goes to show you that there is so much to know about survival, that one single person can't know everything. You need someone who's an expert on one particular environment or location. It makes me somewhat lament that they downplayed the role of the consultants, because it almost casts the "survivorman" character that Les takes on as an all-round wilderness guru. He sort of is, but he absolutely needs help from people who really know the area. This comes across if you pay attention but I'm sure it flies over the head of people who aren't watching closely enough.

Les is such “The Man” to put himself thru everything he did is just amazing! He did things that just wasn’t even done yet. Such a pioneer in this genre it’s crazy. This is my all time favorite episode, I admit I'm biased on my choice as I spent a month with the wai-wai Indians in one of the most remote villages in the Guyanese Amazon, at one point I spent 4 nights and 3 days on my own about 3 1/2 klicks from the village while unsuccessfully waiting for any possible plane out, ended up having to travel several days on the upper esiquebo river by dugout to the nearest village to get out. The reason I love this episode so much is because while on my own every twig I heard break I just knew it was a jaguar, obviously it wasn't but the fear in the dark was there, lol. Everytime I watch you Les in this episode I relive that experience, thank you brother for all the adventures you inspire in us!

It's so interesting this commentary because I wonder what memories are flooding into your head as you watch this footage from 20 years ago. For me I remember being a young man super excited to see a show that filled me with a sense of adventure and wonder. I really did watch these then and tried to imagine myself in those situations. Even now when I go kayaking or on some day trip into the wilderness I make sure to bring certain items with me just in case and take to heart tips I learned from this series, like making sure family knows when they should expect me back and where I plan to go. Maybe a lot of other viewers are like me and it kind of makes me think that nobody is like you. Nobody can watch this footage and actually remember what it was to really be there in the moment. Thanks for this series, Les. You are a legend.

I remember tuning in at the time where Survivorman and Man vs Wild were on at the same time. I remember clearly even as kid that Les in Survivorman was the real deal. I remember thinking: Holy crap that dude is filming all this himself? That dude is legit. My friends and I would argue over if you had secret crews and what not. And I always knew you were the real deal. And then when all the truth about man vs wild came out I was unsurprised to hear that Bear was a sham. Now all these years later you popped up on my youtube feed and I couldn't be any happier. Love these Commentaries, thank you for putting all your past work online for us to enjoy. Thanks so much!

I love the director's commentaries, they offer a lot of extra interesting details to what other things were happening during each episode

I didn't think I'd be commenting about scotch on a Survivorman video, but the short talk about scotch made me want to. I had the great experience of going on a tour of Benromach's distillery when I was on vacation and it was such an interesting and cool thing to get to do. Seeing how they handle and smoke the grains, the various steps before distillation - the tour guide opened the mash tun for us and boy did that stink! The huge copper stills where they actually distil it and then the very old aging barrel room. The tour guide said they buy their barrels used from Jim Beam which I thought that was cool!
