Forges are unlocked immediately in 1.0. It caught me out on my first play through, I was going spare looking for a cooking pot! I think kharma was deliberately hiding them to punish me for being too dumb to notice I had everything I needed to make one. Nice beginners vid, lots of good info for new players yet still entertaining for seasoned battlescarred vets. I like that you clear the trees to improve visibilty, I've seen alot of RU-vidrs who don't do this but it seem a no-brainer to me. A handy ladder cheese is to place a block to leave a one block high space above the top of a ladder, zombies climbing up get stuck and start attacking the surrounding floor giving loads of time to club them down. Same cheese works later game if you upgrade the surrounding floor to concrete, even tough rads take a while to break free.
Are you playing with a friend or something? Because maybe it doesn't allow pausing when other players are in the world. In a single player world I just use the normal pause button and it works fine. It's also how you go to options to adjust sound once you're in the game etc.
Is there a trick to using ladders on console? I'm on PS5 and 90% of the time I don't grab the ladder when I'm facing it. Is there a button to click that I'm not clicking? I got my first broken leg from it, lol.
Ladders are tricky on console, I've found I've almost fallen off them once or twice. I've not had any issues getting on them, I just jump at them and I'm on but climbing straight up long ladders is a bit of a pain on controller!
