that's because it was incorporating the Spanish influence from the conquistadors, which is what this season is all about - nature vs nurture, tradition vs influence, old vs young

Russ Landeau made this for Nicaragua, but Mark Burnett rejected it. Furious, he decided to extend the Borneo theme and use it for the season, instead. Now, because of his feelings, the intros aren't shown anymore, and the full-length ones on the Internet are almost never truly unique. Most of them even borrowed parts from Micronesia's ending. Worlds Apart took bits from other seasons, too, in the same way All-Stars did, except with parts from Heroes vs. Villains and China, for example.
This was the theme originally but Mark Burnett didn't approve it.Russ was really bummed about it and then they started showing the intro rarely.That's why the intro music is not as good as before because it doesn't even get shown.

I like how the part at 0:38 (after the flutes), which is usually over-prominent in other themes, isn't here, it just blends in with the rest of the music without being overpowered.

I heard the reason this theme was rejected was because this season was aired during the show’s ten year anniversary, so they used the Borneo theme to commentate that.
Underrated season we had such strong women on here. Holly, Jane, Brenda, Alina, Naonka. And ofc the legendary purple Kelly 💜. Who survived so many days in the rain in a single swimsuit.

Did you watched that season, she was being rude to almost everyone and she is a quitter (contestants who quit are trash in my opinion) From this seson i would consider Jane as strong woman, Brenda as the smart strategic player, Holly was kinda team mom archtype and Alina was really kind and free spirit person which want to be friend with.
I absolutely love this season despite it being the start of Survivor's "Dark Age". I'm really upset that this wasn't the real theme because I almost think it would have been bit more of a memorable and well-regarded season with it.
I remember genuinely anticipating “After HvV what’s the season 21 theme gonna sound like??” and then sadly realizing what aired was just the recycled S1 track
Why they didn't go with this intro, it throws me back to times when Spanish galleons sailed across the seas and gives me really good latin american vibes.
@survivor297 Sadly I don't think this theme song would have done much to save Nicaragua, at best at least now it does not seem like the producers had enough hope in it to give the season its own theme.
Okay, maybe Nicaragua wasn't the best season. But I would have loved to hear this opening instead of Borneo's theme again. What were they thinking reusing it?
Wow, they should have used this. But I can see why they didn't, too many musical instruments going on at the same time and not as harmonious, like China where you can distinguish the original Ancient Theme and the background chinese chanting and music, I think it's the percussion in the background, with just the wind instruments and guitar it would be fine I guess.

I like this intro so much better; I don't care if it's "OTT" as people call it, it's better than what we've been getting lately. All the intros from like Samoa sound the same basically.

For its really most average season. It had some flaws but it had really decent cast, likeable winner and some memorable moments. 100% Better than Thailand, South Pacific, One World, Island of the Idols and New Era.
