Michele I really admire your strength and courage to speak out. Exposing the JW organization for what they really are. This stupid organization continues to belittle women and blame victims for the harm being done to them. I was also a victim of abuse and I was treated like the person who was causing the abuse. I used to study with the Jehovah Witness in my spirit told me something was not right about this Iam so happy I got out before it when bad for me and my son to I hear the story about people when they was in jehovah witness I feel so sad/mad for them but they help alot of people in this world understand alot go on inside of it and I really want to thank yall for sharing y'all story with us

Wow its like every abuse story in jw history is identical. My story is similar except my little brother was also raped by elders. He was so depressed, and had no self worth, he drank himself to death. My heart breaks for him. These wicked men hide behind a stupid 2 witness rule. Pisses me off!

WOW! Incredibly heart-wrenching experiences Michele! As a 46 year-old man hearing this type of story makes tears well up in my eyes and blazing anger develops again toward this organization. It's truly sad, yet another eye-opening educational experience regarding the gross mistreatment and abusive behavior by a JW husband, this after enduring child abuse early in life. It never ceases to amaze me how despite JW claims of ascribing to the pinnacle of highest standards of morality as we were sold & told at meetings & study, then carried that fallacious confidence out door-to-door or at carts to recruit and reel in people as organizational "fish". Even if JW's want to trace systemic root causes of these problems to blame "Satan" and "imperfection" everyone is controlled by the organization's archaic and antiquated policies under the "Two-Witness" or "don't call the police" rules to top off the insularity and isolationism, then coupled with "elders" that are inept and unqualified to handle professionally these situations involving life-endangering criminally sinful dangerous problems that could be resolved using Caesar's Laws and bonafide professional counseling to seek wisdom, intelligence and truth. Of course the indoctrinated JW will denounce that as "worldly" wisdom" and the supposed "need" to "shove the intellectual ones aside" and NOT get professional help in these situations as we as JW''s were taught "where else are you gonna go" and forcefed the arrogant, condescending Guttering Booty's "authorized counsel" to "listen to the organization" in staying in a destructively abusive and dangerous marriage. It sounds like Michele's husband put on a total masquerade show & tell to con every one he could after going to jail. That is so hurtful and disingenuous but I can hear WT elder & lawyer James McCabe's excuse that "some bad men slip into the organization". No James, it's the POLICIES and ELDERS INACTION that leads to their aiding and abetting, enabling in. complicity as accessories and accomplices to child abuse, domestic violence and spousal abuse situations that could have been proactively halted far earlier if not prevented or dramatically reduced the instances of occurrence. That's why Watchtower continues to lose lawsuits because of organizational reprehensibility and organizational bloodguilt. YES! I love how she ends it, about getting still, and listening to our heart and inner compass. My entire life I shut that down, and can relate to her marital experiences as a JW. I left the org. suffering from CPTSD and am healing, having left the religion behind and waking from cult indoctrination . Life is better in every way outside the Doomsday cult that is the WTS.

Michelle’s story is doubly heart-rending. First, because of the sexual abuse she suffered as a child in JW organization (to say nothing of the re-traumatising impact of the elders’ grilling of her when she disclosed as a child the abuse from a JW adult male) and second because of the violence she suffered as a wife in an atrociously violent marriage. All her sufferings were exacerbated by JW organization’s tone-deaf and archaic patriarchal policies on the treatment of women and children . The Watchtower December 2018 study articles are an ongoing reminder to JW wives to remain in violent marriages so that the abuser can come to be a “true worshipper”. Well, guess what JW organization, untold numbers of those abusers are often active JW males of years and years of “good standing”. And as for the child abuse Michelle suffered, not one adult thought at that time it needed to be reported to the relevant authorities. Not a single one!! Thank you so much Cliff for giving Michelle a voice to not only express the suffering she has had to endure because of JW teachings and practices, but also because hers is a story of recovery from her sad and troubled existence as a JW. Such courage to open up about a very painful life under the constraints under JW patriarchy is something you will never see in JW literature or JW platforms. May Michelle continue to heal and grow in strength!

I'm so sorry you had to endure this, the judicial committee situation must be hard for people who have never experienced it to understand, how could you take a mans word that a child wanted him to abuse her!!

This is definitely the most tragic ex-JW story I've heard... I honestly cried, I can't even imagine. The part where Michele as a 9 year old was blamed for the sexual abuse she endured that started before she could even remember anything - that just broke my heart. I’m not a JW . But she described being threatened continually by her controlling husband . That’s a severe form of abuse . People think that it isn’t because you don’t suffer physical pain . The problem is that your body and brain responds to emotional abuse the same way that it does to physical pain and this has also confirmed scientifically and medically . I’ll give you an example from my childhood. My father spend hours threatening to hit me when I was 9 . I broke out in hives by the end of the day. By continually threatening somebody you are abusing them.

So glad Michelle got away from not only one monster the organisation, but another monster of a man who can manipulate and hit a woman....you have incredible strength Michelle to have gotten through what seems a lifetime of varied abuse. Surely some legal power out there somewhere can take watchtower to task for giving advice in the 2018 magazine that is in effect lethal to some woman to take.? Surely women's movements need to know of such bad advice. My sister who is a born in witness suffered much abuse from her father and then too went on to marrying an elder who also abused her mentally for many years....but witness women just take it and take it because they are taught time and time again that they are lesser beings than their male counterparts. I wish Michelle much happiness in whatever she does with the rest of her life. X

Omg I was so saddened and angered by what you went through. The abuse that women and children are inflicted with because of this insidious cult’s ridiculous yet dangerous teachings. The more time goes on you can see that the so called higher wisdom from the bible and watchtower doesn’t stack up against the wisdom or protection of worldly man and man made laws. My husband cheated with multiple people , transgenders, men and women giving me an STI that took nearly a year to kill. Up to this point all I had got was go out in service more and then ignored. Then I stopped and decided WTH was I doing trusting anyone? I too thought I was saving my unbelieving husband and children by being faithful but I couldn’t do it any more and I too allowed myself to think - really think and start assessing what was really true. I sincerely only wish the very best for your future 💚

Thank you for exploring this topic. I was not raised as a witness and my father use to beat my mother and me and my siblings so this topic is relevant to me. During and after my conversion they would talk about being long suffering and being long suffering so you can convert your husband without a word but by your example. My idea of long suffering and the witnesses idea of long suffering were not the same. That became evident at a convention where they praised a sister for putting up with years and years of terrible abuse to finally convert her husband. I was Appalled! I could not believe this was being taught to the little girls and boys. They praised this woman for putting up with the abuse to convert one man but they said nothing of the toll the years of abuse did to this woman soul or the souls of her children. And if one of her children step out of line she would be expected to shun that child. That talk was the beginning of the end for me. Thank you so much for the range of topics you cover I’m so grateful!

Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear about your abuse from your uncle and the horrid way your family enabled it. Awful that he was still included in family get togethers. I don't get how that could happen. Thanks to you, the little girl from Venezuela sure was a lucky girl, because you had the courage to report your sicko uncle and he lost his right to adopt. And your awful first husband. I don't get why guys like that get married. Anyway, I'm glad you got away from him. What a creep! 😣😏 I divorced my husband, too. And the elders expected me to be celibate for the rest of my life. I ended up getting df'd of course because i signed up for ballroom dance lessons, and then dated my dance partner. Really, women need to be free. Watchtower cult expects us to act like drones and that's impossible for me. As far as feeling responsible for your second husband's behavior, women sure have awful Levitical religious rules they must accept in that cult. I've been out since 2000 and I'm glad I got away. I believe my soul called me out of the cult.

I am happy she is free and sharing her story to help others. I agree, the organization influences women to accept and stay in abusive situations much longer than they may normally. I lived in a 10 year marriage that was a psychological war zone with control, manipulation, extreme jealousy, isolation and possessive. I always lived on fear he would snap one day in his anger and rage. Any little thing would set him off. Once he was driving like a maniac trying to run people off the road with my infant son and pregnant on the way home from a district convention. Part of my healing process was trying to figure out why did I put up with how I was treated and how can I prevent it from ever happening again. I realized how the belief system conditioned and praised women for enduring abuse. I was always told divorce is not an option, he is just immature and will grow out of it, he will someday come around and be a good spiritual husband. We divorced in 2012 when it was his idea and I left JW later that year. He was 'pick of the circuit' MS, regular pioneer, from strong family, hard working on the RBC. I've known several others with same outcome

Elders are janitors, warehouse workers, commercial cleaners, mechanics, construction workers, what makes them capable of taking the place of the police and child protective services? Its ludicrous that parents don't go to the authorities first!!! The Elders ARE NOT counsellors and psychiatrist or the police. The TWO WITNESS RULE applies this way...and TAKE NOTE..THIS WAY ULTIMATELY..TWO WITNESSES. are THE VICTIM AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ...THEY serve as witness to counsellors and investigators who can CONFIRM THAT THE CHILD WAS TELLING THE TRUTH. NO CHILD MAKES THIS CRAP UP!!!...ELDERS ARE NOT QUALIFIED...PERIOD!!!

There will be ex elders and current elders watching this. It's bad enough being rank and file waking up but at least you haven't hurt others too much. I'd find it hard to have actually added to the cults workings and actually cause real pain and mental abuse.

Unbelievable the elders would leave the abused minor alone in the Kingdom Hall auditorium with the accused abuser while they met with her parents in the meeting room. What a potentially dangerous situation. The accused could have potentially harmed or kidnapped her to try to cover his tracks once she outed him. That's so scary that they out a traumatized child in that vulnerable situation.

The elders in this religion really hate women and children and see them as chattel to use and abuse and then throw away because once you are done over they have no more use for you.

The reason this lady is going through all these issues is because of the Sexual abuse that happened to her as a child. She ends up marrying another abuser, and yet still another. This religion only promoted the evil that she was going through, they don't encourage psycho- canceling or therapy and this becomes a cycle. An abused person if not helped, becomes an abuser.....she need to be delivered from this sexual sin and abuse, break the pattern and end the abuse.

Man this story is so sad. The organization let her down over and over. I feel for so many that have burned themselves trying to do the right thing by following the organization but only led to more pain and suffering.

I am sad to hear your story. If Your husband would have been a hardworking honest apostate… they would have counseled you to leave him. But with a wordly violent person, they counsel you to stay. I hate the cult. They dont care whats important for the sisters, only whats important for the cult.

When I left "the truth" and I took a look at modern feminism I understood certain things. I understood why women can't become elders.
