I live in southern Colorado, old Mexico. Been learning whatever I can about water, being from MN where if want some water, you got some water. Out here, WAY WAY WAY different story. DON'T YOU DARE EVEN LOOK AT WATER THAT'S NOT YOURS. People up the creek from me that have grandfathered water rights, they have diverted 100% of the water before it gets to me. It was flowing when I got the land, but when they realized I wasn't going anywhere, they stopped the creek completely. Which they think was where I was getting my water, but a small slow moving creek doesn't have potable water. However, the water table by a creek, even if it dry, isn't that deep. Maybe I got lucky, but my water is probably the best water I've ever drank from a well. Good luck to anyone trying to get fresh water. It took me seven years of working alone, digging, trenching, laying water lines, making auto syphon systems with hydraulic ram pumps, and solar water pump system. I just got my water flowing free last fall, only about 250-300 gallons a day, but I've been working with less then 5, so I'm swimming now. Can't even describe the feeling of knowing I will always have fresh water. What if my well goes dry you ask? That's why God gave us the shovel and windlass, just dig it deeper.

It appears that Allan Savory has demonstraited that burning the grass (~19.00) does produce a fresh flush of grass after the first rain but, since it oxidizes the organic matter insted of rotting it, the practise actually contributes to desertification. It looks like there is a need for information exchange here. There is a good video of Dr. Savory presenting a TED talk on the matter here on RU-vid.

I love these people that say stripped down desert lands are beautiful. If man keeps lowering water tables, cutting down forests, wiping out soils fertility, and not putting back. The inevitable result is a WORLDWIDE DESERT!! We need cover crops Trees with deep roots. Put massive numbers of people to work planting & watering crops permenent crops long living perenials

Desalination Plants; why are there not more? (Also there was a near completely barren Island in the Southern Atlantic Ocean rhat Darwin helped instigate the planting of Vegetation. Today it has massive more Vegetation, as Vegetation helps create moisture giving Fog and Rain.
