I am so glad Miss Hayward finally won a well deserved Oscar. But this should have been her third. Susan Hayward ruled the 1950's with her work. #1 With A Song In My Heart, #2 I'll Cry Tomorrow #3 finally winning for I Want To Live!
Susan deserved this oscar. Robert Osborne noted Susan performance not only the yers best but one of the greatest of all time. I would note the following 5 greatest femme performances. vivien Leigh fine with the wind Meryl Streep Sophie choice. Susan Hayward I want to live , Bette Davis now voyager abd Ingrid Bergman Casablanca.
The subject is Susan Hayward winning the Best Actress Oscar yet when she collects it the video ends before she even makes her speech? No one wants to see an actress, esp from this era, be given her trophy then cut out their acceptance speech! Who does that?
You can watch her speech on the official Oscar video, I only make the videos to add the acting clips. If I include too much from the original video, I get copyright trouble, therefore I cut the speech if it's too long
This is one of the Oscar's that went to the wrong actress. Rosalind Russell deserved this a lot more for Auntie Mame than Susan Hayward did for her performance in I Want to Live. Auntie Mame is still a wonderful film to watch today and Rosalind Russell is still very fresh and wonderful and timeless to watch today. It has aged beautifully, she was very deserving of that Oscar but like so many things timing is everything. I Want to Live is also an excellent film but Susan Hayward's performance in it is not. It has a very 1950's feel to it. I thought her role in it was full of hammy overacting. This is another example of a film being honored where the film itself is better than the leading ladies role in it. Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love is another example. The film itself is wonderful but her performance in it wasn't.
